RHYMNEY CHAMBa 1 TADB. ? • I 5 A nipehir,? of the Rhvmney Chamber of Tr;hlp whs I.plrl nn TueF. day evening nfc rh»- Workmen's £ Institute, under the presMeDey of £ Con>>cilJ'>r H. iVj. Thomas, .1. P who was nu ppnr :< d by the of her officers and j W44 14-a p p -)r f e? 0 a representative gathering. i- 1 no Prt\>idfnt, in welcoming the 4 members, said he was I)it.p,ed to meet {J them under more favourable conditioius £ than when they last met. Tliet,- rlkuqe of righteousness had prevailed. (H<»ar, hear.) Thanks to the energies, ell- £ darauce, and indomitable courage of £ otir gallant sailors and soldiers at the £ Front, it was a-matter of thankfulness 5? that they were once more oat of the hands of the ruthless Huns, and were ji within reasonable distance of having x a satisfactory peace. (Hear, hear.) > The first business was the conaidera- »; tion of a request from the Ladies' 1. Committee organising the great $' Prttiiotie Fair to be held on New 5? Year's Day, for the co-operation of the Chamber to eusnre the success of the big pnsb, to segment the Jocal £ War Chanties Fond. He felt that they olluid not do too mnch for (heir bravo soldiet-H avd sailors, and he j thought evry rntmber of the >• Chamber would be most ready to ex- tend a bdpiug band towards making the ovept a bo?e 8f;ce,AU J. ;« Edwards, J, P., asked in what direction :4 did the procQ?rs dcaire the hlp of *£« the Chamber P-The President said the disposal of tickets was an im- ".i portant asset to ensure the success £ which they all hoped for. The Ladies' £ Committee bad been working moat assiduously for several weeks, and ji had succeeded in obtaining the 3,000 parcels, which was no small tatk. It was most important that the sale of f tickets should be done as effectively Jjjj as possible, and if members of the h Chamber undertook some of the work, it would be a great atep towards en- y suring success. With regard to the parcels, they contained good value, j and in many oases more than value, whilst an additional inducement, to $ purchaser sof tickets was the fm* tbat in a number a War Savings Certifi- | cate was also included.—Mr H. T. Miles said that time was rather limited for making any great effort, with A' Christmas so near. From what he eoald glean, he understood that the tradeamen were already doing a little towards the movement.—Alderman J. Edwards, J.P., thought it would be a great pity if the undertaking was not |j brought to a 8110_.lal issue. It $ appeared to him that there was not the enthusiasm displayed that should be in aneh a worthy movement. The | ladies had worked very hard, and the fjj 3,OO paroels were praetioaUy ready. They were all worth a shilling each, ] and some coDaiderably more. If the £ membera of the Chamber could devise $ some means to create talk in the town, with a view of popularising the fair" they would be doing a good service. |*i It would, however, have to be done $ immedisLt-Aly.-Mmrs W. A. Morgan, § Israel Jonea, W. Crystal, E. J. Ed- wards, H. Miles, A. GHenoroaa, J. H. Griffith enpported the appeal. It WM § resolved to extend every support to I the movement and a deputation W" ] appointed to attend the Ladies' Com- |j mittee with a view to making the final arrangementa—It WM further re- $ Bolyed that the Chamber offer two I prizes in a suitable competition ia connection with the side shows at the Patriotic Fair. $ The next matter diwamw was the i Christmas HuHd?ya.—Mr H. T/MUet | moved that the .hope be oloaed on |j Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New ? Tear'a Da1.hí.. was mmonded by i Mr J. H. Grimth.—An amendment & was moved by Mr Tom Price that, in p addition to the above-named days, the I Thursday fonwinBNe" Tear's Day = be obaerved a holiday.—Upon a jj|| vote being taken, the motion was a1 carried with a clear maj*on*ty. Upon the motion of C08noillor H. 1 M. Thomas, J.P., sownded by AIder- H man J. Edwards, J.P., a vote of con- I dolenoe was passed with Mr and Mrs }| W. Gienoreea and family in thoir 1 recent berea*eneut by the lamentable 3 death of Mr W. Jamm Glencrol8. 1
