I RHYMNEY. MALE VOICE CONTEST. Active preparations are being made by the local Male Voice Party, under the able baton of Mr Abel E. Jonas, A.C., for the "double event" on Bank Holiday, at Blaenavon and Crumlin Eistedd- fcdau. The cheristers have our best wishes for success. We may add that a public rehearsal will be given at the Imperial Cinema (after the services) on Sunday evening next, when both test pieces, and solos by popular artistes will be rendered. OBITUARY.—It is with deep regret that we learn of the death, which took place this (Friday) morning, of Mrs Perkins, the beloved wife of Mr Gwilym Perkirs, Ramsden-street. The deceased had suffered consider- ably for several months, but bore her illness with chri,, tianlike fortitude. Mrs Perkins had been, prior to her illness, a very faithful member and worker at Goshen Congregational Chapel. General sympathy will be expressed with Mr Perkins and her brother (Mr Abel I. Jones) in their sore bereavement.

I SINISTER ATTEMPT TO ROB OELLIOAER. MERTHYR'S CONFISCATING SCHEME. The deeply laid scheme of Merthyr in their further designs upon the parish of Gelligaer, were referred to at the meeting of the local authority, on Tuesday, Mr Edmund Jones, J.P., in the chair, when Mr E. Richards, J. P., as chairman of the Parliamentary Committee, dealt with the action of the Borough representatives to con- fiscate the Bedlinog Ward into their parliamentary division. Reference has already been made to the deeply laid plot. Mr Richards dealt in de- tail how, having heard that Merthyr was about to lay before the assistant commissioner a proposal for the inclu- sion of the Bedlinog Ward into their a.rea for Parliamentary purposes, and how he at once communicated with the Clerk, and Mr James appeared before the commissioners to oppose this. He and Mr James then at. tended before the commissioners at Cardiff in support of the commissioners original scheme, that the whole of the Urban area of Gelligaer, with that of Caerphilly should form one Parlia- mentary division. Mr D. Hopkins said that if they were going to lop off Bedlinog from Gelligaer, it would mean a serious redaction in the rateable value of the parish. A motion approving of the action of Mr Richards was carried unani- mously. Subsequently, Mr Richards stated that the commissioners were informed that the people of Bedlinog were in favour of the proposed change. He bad been notified by Councillor Charles, of a public meeting which was held on Tuesday (the 23rd July). He attended that meeting, at which there were about thirty persons pre- sent and a resolution was then adopted that they approve of Bedlinog being included in Merthyr, providing that Merthyr could secure three members. Mr J. H. Charles said the resolution adopted was that Bedlinog would prefer remaining with Gelligaer, but if by joining Merthyr, three members could be secured for the Boroughs, they would join Merthyr. Mr W. Hammond: If Bedlinog don't want to go to Merthyr, why should they allow Mardy Jones to stuff his doctrines dowu their throat ? Mr J. Jones, Bargoed, said that Mr Mardy Jones represented the Labour party in East Glamorgan, and a miners' meeting having passed a resolution in favour of the proposal, he was entitled to say so. Mr D. Hopkins said that the voice of the people as a whole, and not one section must be obtained. Finally it was decided to write the chief Commissioners, supporting the previous decision of the Council in favour of the division as originally set down, that:the whole of the Gelli- gaer parish with the Caerphilly Urban area, form one new Parliamentary Constituency. e • e
