Analyst'sReport The Laboratory, M, Dock Street, Newport, Hon., September Uth. 1906. Messrs. A. Buchan & Co., Rhymney. Dear Sirs, I have analysed a sample Gallon 01 your "ALL BRIGHT A LI" received from you In Screw-Stoppered Flagons, and beg to hand you my Seport. This Is a most inviting looking beverage, being absolutely free from all traces of turbidity, and, as its name implies, (s bright to the last drop. The results of my analysis shew it to be a Light Bitter Beer of the very highest grade of purity, and in my opinion, is the product of Malt and Hops of lirst-class quality. The amount of Alcohol present renders it strictly a Light Ale, and its aroma and flavour are excellent. The characteristic bitter of the Hops being well in evidence It forms a most agreeable drink. There is not the slightest trace of any objectionable mgtsnk substance present, and I consider it a very High-class Beer In every respect. Being sent out in Screw-Stoppered Flagons its high aeration is preserved to perfection in consequence, and there Is no chance of its suffering in condition. I consider it a distinct advance in Bottled Beers for Table use, and Its high general excellence should command a ready sale. It really is a splendid sample of Beer, and I must congratulate you on its production. B am, dear Sin, Tours faithfully, GEORGE R. THOMPSON, nbue Aaamim. GRAND EISTEDDFOD AT NEW TREDEQAR.
GRAND EISTEDDFOD AT NEW TREDEQAR. A BRILLIANT SUCCESS. Unquestionably, the most successful local Eisteddfod which has been or- ganised since the outbreak of the war, was that held at the Primitive Metho- dist Chapel, New Tredegar, (kindly lent) on Saturday under the auspices of the Free Church Councils of the district. Prompted with that laudable desire to assist our brave men by supporting the wives and dependents, whilst they themselves are on active service, a strong Committee was j formed with Mr Owen Jones and Mr Gwilym Davies as secretaries, to carry 1 the Eisteddfod to an issue, the entire proceeds to be devoted to the Local Relief Funds. As an indication of the success of their efforts, it was originally arranged that the com- petitions should commence in the afternoon, bat owing to the large number of entries it became imperative to start some hours earlier. Dr. F. I. Maunsell, Tirphil, proved an excel- lent president, and Rev. D. Llew I Morris, Ogwy Pengam, was a delightful, conductor. The adjudica- tors, who had such a bnsy time, until late in the evening, carried out their work in an exemplary manner. These duties were in the capable hands of the following:—Music, Mr J. Bowen, Mas. Bac. Porth, Mr T. Thomas, L.T.S.C., Maesteg, and Mr Dan Owen, Rhymney; Elocution, Rev. Llew Morris, Pengam, and Rev. G. J. Jones, Gilfach. The accompanists were Master J. Hayden Parry, A.L.C.M., New Tredegar, Mr W. J. Hill, New Tredegar, and Miss Griffiths, Cwm- syfiog. LIST OF AWARDS. I Juvenile Choirs.—"Cwsg fy An- I wylyd Cwsg Oakdale School Scholars, (conductress, Miss Rath Parry) Contralto Solo. Land of Hope and Glory." This proved a very fine competition, and the prize was divided between tbnse two populs,- soloists, Miss Gladys Arthur, New- bridge, and Miss Gladys Smith, Bryn- mawr. Soprano Solo.—" Neges y Blo- deuyn," Miss Olive Bevan, Aberearn. Boy's Solo.—" Give me thy heart," Oswald Edwards, Phillipstown, New Tredegar. Girl's Solo.—" Behold me standing at the door," Miss Gladys Thomas, Merthyr. Pianoforte Solo (open).—" Danse des Fakers," (1) May Gambling, Deri; (2) Master Ernest Hirst. Pianoforte solo (under 15) Autumn Memories Annie Hadley Nelson. Recitation (open).—" Y Diwedd," divided between Mr Owen Davies, Bargoed, and Mr D. Aeron Parry, New Tredegar. Juvenile Reoitation.-(I) Miss G. Hart, Abersychan; (2) Hilda Jones, Dowlais. Baas Solo.—"I fear no Foe," Mr W. Deri Bowen, Bargoed, who gave a masterly rendering, which was highly praised by the adjudicator, (Mr Bowen). Tenor Solo, "0 na byddai'n Haf o hyd," Mr J. L. Bebb, Newbridge, late of Abertyaswg, whose rendering was quite inspiring. Baritone Solo. Shipmates 0' Mine," Mr W. Deri Bowen, Bargoed. Open Recitation (English) The Leper," Miss Evans, Pengam. Hymn tune Competition. Mr Griffith Jones, Bethesda, North Wales. Novice Solo. Lead, Kindly Light," Mr J. D. Bebb, Aberfcysswg. Champion folo.-There was a fine entry list for the ohampion solo, a test piece being alloted to each voice, soprano, contralto, tenor and bass. Five survived the fiaal, but owing to the late hour, two of the singers, having to catch their trains, were un- able to appear in the final. Of the three singers, eaoh of whom gave fine renderings, Mr W. Deri Bowen, the popular Bargoed basso, was declared the winner, thus capturing his third trophy during the day. I CHIEF CHORAL-RHYMNEY I CHOIR'S SUCCESS. Considerable interest was taken in ) the ohief ohoral competition, the test piece being Ar Lan'r lerddonen Ddofn," (T. Gabriel, Bargoed), or "Come unto me," (D. Jones, A. C., Bargoed). There were no fewer than ten choirs, which, we believe, estab- lishes a record as far as the Rhymney Valley is concerned, and demonstrated the efficient manner in which the eisteddfod had been organised by the energetic secretaries. The choirs sang in the following order :rPepy. darrsa, (Merthyr), Dowlais, Bargoed, '0' Caeharris, (Dowlais), New Tredegar, (Welsh) New Tredegar Trio Choir, Tredegar, Deri, Libanus, Cwmsyfiog, and Jerulalem, (Rhymney), each of whom gave splendid renderings. It was, however, manifest that the com- petition lay between Dowlais, Deri, and Jerusalem, Rhymney, and subse- quently amidst much excitement, Rhymney were declared the winners. Although the three choirs named above were merited for distinction, several other choirs deserved to be highly complimented on their perform- ance, notably Caeharris, whose per- formance was especially good, and Libanus (Cwmsyfiog) whose concep- I tion of the piece was admirable. Two of the features in the winning choir was the beautiful quality of the voices, and the excellent interpretation which they gave of Mr Gabriel's beautiful anthem. It should be stated that Bargoed and New Tredegar Trio Choir sang the English piece, Come unto me," while the remaining choirs rendered Ar Lan'r Iorddoaen Ddofn." The arrangements were efficiently i carried out by an energetic committee who deserve to be highly compli- mented upon the great success achiev- ed. The need of a more commodious building for such a gathering greatly handicapped the promoters, and as the eisteddfod will, in all probability, become an annual fixture, this draw- back will, doubtless, be removed next, year, and a suitable marquee provided. Mr R. Gold, as bon. treasurer ren- dered excellent service, whilst the committee were most fortunate in having the services of Mr Owen Jones as secretary, who with his colleague, Mr Gwilym Davies, preved splendid organisers, and to whose indomitable efforts, a large measure of the success attained can be attributed.
