A CHARGE OF CHILD NEGLECT…
A CHARGE OF CHILD NEGLECT j AT BARGOED. j FATHER TO JOIN THE ARMY At the Bargoed Court on Friday, Griffith Parry Williams (40) a collier of Gelligaer, was charged by the National Society for the prevention of cruelty to children with neglecting his five children. Mr J. Lewis, Merthyr, who appeared to prosecute, said the case had been under the observation of Inspector Starr for a considerable time, but he appeared ta have turned a deaf ear. The society thought it was in the best interests of the children that these proceedings should be instituted. The house was in a shocking state, and the condition of the children very dirty. There was practically no food in the home. The defendaht too changed his occupation very often, and had in fact been at almost every colliery in South Wales. Mr W. D. R. Lewis, who appeared for the defence, said that before going into the evidence he would make a suggestion that the case should be adjourned and that in the meantime the defendant should join tke Army. He would then allot his allowance to the mother-in-law who would take charge of the five children. Inspector Starr stated that the mother-in-law was a most respectable woman and lived at Merthyr Vale. If the Army allowance in respect to the children was made payable to her he thought she would take charge of the children. The defendant agreed to this ar- rangement, and the oase was adjourned accordingly. ^< f

The acoom- panists were Mr A. Broadhurst and Mr Harold Warn, L.L.C.M. Roberts proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the Chairman for presiding; to the conductor and choir for giving them such a musical treat, without costing the committee any expense; the Library Committee for placing the hall at their disposal gratis; also the R.A.O.B. Society for defray- ing all the expenses, and te all who bad, in any way, contributed to the success of the concert. The motion was heartily seconded by the Rev. W. H. Cooper, and adopted.
