Hugh Cooper, Abertysswg, is the energetic pastor, has been presented with an individual Communion Ser- vice by Mrs J. J. Evans (Price-street) in memory of her father, the late Mr Daniel Davios, treasurer, and one' of the most active workers in the church. This useful gift will, we feel sure, be greatly appreciated by the active band of workers in connection with this place of worship. « < PENSIONS COMMITTEE.—it was re- ported at the meeting of the Urban District Council, held on Wednesday evening, that at the Finance Corn- mittee, the previous week, an urgent telephone message had been received by the Clerk from the County Pen- sions Committee, asking the council to at once appoint four members to serve on the Rhymney Sub-Com- mittee. Upon the proposition of Mr D. T. Williams, seconded by Mr W. Griffiths, it was resolved that the following be noninated :—Messrs Thomas R. Jones, J.P., David James, J.P. W. C. Williams, and H. M. Thomas. SiNGiNG FESTIVAL.—On Thursday last the members of the choirs of the Welsh Baptist Churches held a! further cymanfa at Siloam, Tafarnau-' bach. There was a large gathering, and the proceedings ably presided over by the Rev. J. G. James, (pastor) were held in the open air. The choristers, under the emcient conduetorsbip of Mr Wi J. Jones, A.C. (Penuel) rendered very en'ectivelya number of the tunes and anthems from the programme of the recent successful festival held at Rhymney. Some of the renderings were quite inspiring. Capital solos were also given by Miss Beavan, (Siloam) and Mr James Evans, (Rbymney), and a recitation by one of the members at Siloam, Tafarnaubach. The Penuel orchestra also rendered excellent service. At the cloae, hearty thanks were accorded to all who had assisted in making the festival such a success. PRESENTATION.—On Friday even ing an interesting meeting was held, organised by the members of the Rhymnoy Rugby Football Club, the occasion being a presentation to Mr. J. Rocyn Jones, who bad been one of the most ardent supporters of the club, not only during the hey.day of its prosperity, but also during the period when this, in common with many other Rugby Clubs, p&ssed through a most trying ordeal, owing to a series of misfortunes. The chair was ably nlled by Mr T. D. Hancock, who, in referring to the object of the meeting, said, that whilst they all deeply regretted their old friend and fellow-townsman bad removed to HeTigoed, they felt that they could not let the occasion pass without showing their appreciation of the manifold services which MrJoneshad rendered in fostering the game in the town. Eulogistic speeches followed l by Mr A. E. Davies, manager M6yds Bank, Mr T.j:John and others, each I of whom spoke in high praise of the recipient, who bad proved a good sport" in the truest sense of the term. The presentation, which con- sisted of a nice leather hand-sewn suit case, was made by the chairman in an appropriate speech, and Mr Rocyn Jones suitably responded. The arrangements were einciently carried out by Mr Rees Jones, High- street. <: FuNERAL.—The funeral of the late Mrs Davies, the beloved wife of Mr Henry Davies, Carno-street, took place on Saturday afternoon. The deceased had been for years a faith- ful member of Zioc Congregational Church, the Sunday-school and choir, and the high respect in which she was held was strikingly demonstrated at the obsequies. A brief service was conducted rtt the house by the Rev. R. E. Peregrine, B.D., after which the cortege, which was of a very re- presentative character, wended its way to the Graig Burial Ground. At the graveside the Rev. R. E. Peregrine, B.D., delivered a very touching address, in the course of which he referred to the beautiful trait&in the character of the deceased. The deepest sympathy, he said, was extended to Mr Davies and the young children in their h,avy trial. A most impressive service closed with prayer by the Rev. Rbys Jenkins (Goshen), and the singing of a popular Welsh hymn. The mourners were :—Mr Henry Davies, Beatrice May and Jennie Davies (husband and daughters); Mr Edward J. Lewis and Miss M. J. DEATH BY MtSADVENTURE ATRMYMNEY. At the Police Station, Rhymney, on Wednesday, Mr J. B. Walford the district coroner, held an inquest touching the death of Alfred J. Kiley, the sixteen months old child of Mr and Mrs Kiley, Queens Cresent, Rbymney, who was found dead in bed on Monday morning. The mother, Esther Florence Kiley, described the routine of the family life and the putting of the child to bed. Later, she went up stairs and found him lying with his face toward the mattress. She pulled the bed out kittle and the child fell to the ground. This frightened her and she ran for her father. She.wM now 22 years of age, and had been married four years. I Charles Death said his daughter called him upstairs at 9.30. The child was lying on the floor flat on its face. Life was extinct. Dr. H. Thomas, Rhymney, said be got to the bouse at 11.5 am. The child then appeared to have been dead three or four hours. He found no external marks of injury. He at- tributed death to heart failure, but he could not say whether this was due to auSbcation. The coroner having summed up the jury, returned a verdict of" DeMh by misadventure."
