YSTRAD MYNACH CHAMBER OF TRADE.
YSTRAD MYNACH CHAMBER OF TRADE. The ordinary meeting of the members of the Ystrad Mynach Chamber of Trade was held on Wednesday in last week, and notwithstanding the Christmas pressure, there was a large attendance, over which Mr. Phillip Morgan presided. A letter was read from Mr. Richards, Agent to the Ystrad Mynach Estate, ia reply to an enquiry made by the Chamber, stating that the trustees of the Estate were not prepared to grant consent to the Rhymney Railway Company to allow a public footpath from Lewis-street to the County-road near the Station at Ystrad Mynach. Considerable discussion took place upon this. Public protest meetings and appeals to the County Council were suggested, but in view of the fact that Lewis-street will form the natural outlet to the Merthyr traffic coming over the proposed new Pengam-road it was de-r cided to let the matter stand over until the road was made. The Chamber- have done by fair means all in their.-power to get outlets for Church-street and Lewis- street, which wculd greatly lessen the present inconvenience of getting to the railway station. Mr. E. Ham reported upou his and the Secretary's attendance at the annual meeting of the Federation of Chambers of Trade at Tonypandy. The report was adopted. Mr. W. H. Harries and Mr. E. Rickards were appointed a deputation to interview some of the members of the Standing J oint Committee, with regard to the erection of a Police Station for the district.

Curtis presided over a large attendance. TV extended tables were laden with pout y and other articles, the gifts of the idespeople of the district, which, amp" testified to the respect shown tovvi.i:, i.ie membeis of the local company as r., appreciation for their sacrifice of time and money to equip themselves for any emergency which may arise. ii- opening the proceedings the Chair- man heartily congratulated the G j Coir >any upon their work during the last ear, work which had been performed utidt- difficulties, but with a cheerfulness vrhi* i was characteristic of the G Corr-tany. He formally introduced Serg. -Instructor Harrington to the audi; nee and company, and in doing so predicted a bright future. He had no hesi ation in saying that the officers and mer-of the G Company would make no exception to the rule of adherence atid udelity to the Sergt.-Instructor. He apohgised for the absence at that meeting of Captain Edwards, who was unable to be t resent. Nter a well rendered song by Mr. Jas, Evars, and another by Rifleman John Dcv..es, the distribution of prizes was t"v.<eded with. 1\1r John Varley's Cup w.¿ .00 by R, J. Although L -.&me to the district as a comparative ft. nger, he felt exceedingly thankful on be 'df of himself and men for the splendid rt ,onse which the people of the district, hoi made. It showed their appreciation oi he G Company, and he hoped the IDll, would at all times realise this. hIr. J. T. Williams, in responding, sui that the donation to the G C. mpany had now become an annual h: ( itution, and a deserving one. He w < glad to be amongst them and to be ii ^ed up with the officers and men, not of the most dandy company in the M nmouthshire Battalion, but of a com- r- ay of workers who had won the self- c Afidence and the esteem of all officers b constant attention at drill and adher- e ?e to instruction. They had with them now a new Sergt.-Instructor, but he had no fear that the men would not pay that same attention to duty and discipline in the future as in the past. Ex-Sergt.-Instructor W. Lott also re- sponded, and having expressed his pleasure at being present amongst them, said that it was a funny position to be in to respond on behalf of the donors. It had been his pleasure to be amongst them for 12 or 13 years, and during that time he had been supported in a most admirable manner by the townspeople. The G Company had always been fortunate in having some excellent officers and non- commissioned officers and men, and he had no hesitation in saying that this reputation of the past would be main- tained in the future. They had an excellent Sergt.-Instructor and a faithful j Col.-Sergeant. The men would no doubt rally around their officers and maintain the good name which had been so lolir, established. After some splendidly rendered songs by Mr. James Evans and others, the meeting terminated.
