THE WELSH HOSPITAL, NETLEY. I THE BARMOUTEI BED. I A meeting of subscribers to maintain a Barmouth Bed at the above Hospital was held at the Council School last week, Mr D. Roberts, National Provin. cial Bank, presiding. The Secretary submitted a report of the work done during the year. The sum of R69 4a. Od. had been paid over to the Hospital in the course of the year. This amount had been willingly paid by 27 subscribers, and as willingly and quietly collected from week to week by Nurse Roberts. Letters of the deepest gratitude bad been received from the Hon. Treasurer, Hon. Secre. tary, and the Matron. The additional. demand upoq this—one of the largest and most excellently conducted hospi- tals in the country, made it increasingly difficult to cope with the requirements. The Secretary reported that Norse Roberts, who was leaving the town, bad sent in her resignation as collector, but she bad kindly collected in all the sub. scriptions up to the end of the year. During the year two of the subscribers, Mrs Milton Davies and Nurse Lynne had discontinued their subscription. Mr Rbys Jones, Penmount, moved that the resignation of Nurse Roberts be accepted with deep regret. She bad done this, as she had done all her other duties with the best of grace. They all regretted her departure, and wished her every success in future. Mr William Owen, Craigmynacb, in seconding the proposition, said they would miss the cheerful face and genial company of the Nnrse. She baa worked bard for this cause, and surety no more worthy cause existed, than to help to provide comfort and succour for the men who have gone out to fight our battles, while we were left in comfort at home. The Nurse thanked those present for their kind expressiont;, and said that the work had never proved a burden to her but a gi-ent pleasure, and she hoped it would be continued. The question arose whether the con. tribuf ions would be continued, it was reported that two or three subscribers intimated their intention to discontinue. The Secretary said that they had undertaken this work of mercy two years ago, and it was not very likely they were going to go back on their words find turn their backs at the hour of greatest need, be hoped that most certainly they would continue as long As the necessity existed. M, Gwilym Davies, Waverley Cafe, said that the need for hedpi was greater to day than it ever bad been. He would heartily welcome a movement to pro- vide for TWO beds, and not cowardly Abandon the small assistance which they had promispd to give. Further than that the good name of Barmouth was in the balance a promise had been given, and as worthy citizens we should honour that pledge. He proposed that we should certainly continue to endow the Barmouth Bed at the Welsh Hospital, Mrs Moore, Linn Hotel, seconded the resolution, which was carried unani- mously Mr William Owen remarked that be would drop all other subscriptions rather than withhold his sympathy from, and not show his appreciation of, the brave men who were now stricken low, and in need of a bed. On the motion of Mr Rbys Jones, seconded by Mr Gwilym Davies, Miss Cassie Jones, Lawrenny Lodge, was unanimously elected to collect the sub- scriptions for 1918. The Secretary was instructed to wriblb to anyone who intended to discontin$K?, asking them to reconsider their de- cision. On the motion of Mr Gwilym Davies, seconded by Mrs Francis Morris, it was unanimously resolved to send a gift of J65 to the Hospital as a Xmas present. If there is any good Samaritan in the town who feel that be or she would likf) to replace anyone who has fallen off-- it is n, trifle, only one shilling a week, a word to that tffpct, will be gbd-y re- ceived by illo, Hon. Secretary, Mr J. Jones, The Libraiy.
