The Chairman thought that the Governors should have an official ack- nowledgement of the appointment. On the proposition of the Rev. E. Jones-Edwards, seconded by Mrs Gwynoro Davies, it was decided to draw the attention of the Merioneth Educa- tion Committee to the matter. Scholarship Committee. It was reported that the Lewis Lewis Scholarships bad been awarded to Gordon Wellings, Cumberland House Bessie Richards, Church Place and George Rocke, Maindee House. The John Morgan Scholarships bad been awarded to Freddie Howe, Talaig, and Dilys Griffith, Gwynfa. School Caretaker. The Ladies Visiting Committee re- ported that the School Caretaker (Mrs Jones, Kohinoor Cottage), gave every satisfaction with her work, and it was decided that two members of the Com- mittee should convene the Governors appreciation to the Caretaker. Laundry Work. I It was decided that the proposed course in laundry work at the School should bp deferred until after the war. Financial. The Clerk reported that there was a balance at the Bank that day amount- ing to £ 60 18s. 8d., as compared with an overdraft of £50 193. Gd. this time last year. There were also due to the Governors £ 300 from the Merioneth Education Committee, and £ 400 from the Board of Education. Bills to the amount of 920 were passed for payment. Prize Distribution. l The arrangements for the annual prize distribution was left to Mr R Jones-Morris (chairman), Councillor John Roberts (vice-chairman), and Mr Edmund D: Jones, M A. (headmaster). Salaries. I A letter was read from Mr John Lloyd, M.A, thanking the Governors for the very substantial increase in his salary, and assuring the Governors that be would continue to do his best for the welfare of the school. A letter was read from Miss Mary Davies, B A., asking the Governors to reconsider her case as regards salary. In reply to a question, it was reported that the salary now paid to Miss Mary Davies was R140 per annum. It was decided that a reply should be pent inforruing Miss Davies that the Governors could not at present recon- sider her case. More Desks Required. I It was reported by Mr John Roberts that owing to the large number of pupils at school, it had been necessary for the Headmaster to procure a number of new desks, but more wns still required. The Headmaster reported that six new desks bad been procured. On the proposition of Mr Edward Williams, it was unanimously decided to approve of the nction taken in secur- ing new desks. Maintenarice Allowance. I It was agreed to allow the sum of J61 as maintenance allowance to a pupil attending the School from Corris. Record Number of Pupils. I The Headmaster reported that the number of pupils in school this term was 118-(64 girls and 54 boys) which was a record number in the history of the school. Mr John Roberts—How many more pupils this term. The Headmaster—Fifteen pupils more than last term. Mrs Gwynoro Davies-Can the school accommodate any more pupils. The Headmaster—We won't refuse any. We will do our best to find room for them. Several members remarked that it was very encouraging to see such a large number of pupils attending the school.
