THE SAME GOOD STORY. BY ANOTHER BARMOUTH WOMAN Some things you cannot read too often. You like the story better every time. War Pensions Com- mittee met at the Police Station yester- day (Wednesday). Tennis.—An American Tournament will be p!ayed on the. Recreation Ground, next Saturday, at 2.15 p.m. Entrance foe, 6d. Tea, 6d. Examinations.—The annual examin- ations of the Central Welsh Board are being held this week at the County School. Demonstration— On Monday after- noon, a demonstration in fruit and vegetable bottling, was given at the Belle Vue HaU, by an expert instructor. Recita!.—On Thursday evening, a most successful organ recital was given &t S. John's Church, by Mr W. H. Pyemont. A violin solo was also given by Mr M. Nierot. Personal Among the visitors to Barmouth last week was Bishop Vaugban, one of the most admired writers of the Catholic Church in England, and a younger brother of the late Cardinal Archbishop of West- minster. Our Boys.—Private lorwertb Price Jones, son of Mr and Mrs William Jones, Gwynfa Cottage, who was re. cently wounded in France, arrived home on Saturday for a few days rest. He is attached to the Canadians, and has been at the front for several months. Private Jones has been wounded twice. Important.—A public meeting will be held at 7 p.m., at the Belie Vao HaU on Tuesday nexis, July 24th, wb(:n addresses will be delivered by Miss Grecfel, of London; Mrs Watts, of Canada; Mrs William George, and Mrs Drage, of Criccietb. The speakers will deal with a matter, which concerns every person, especially the women, and it is to be hoped that there will be a good attend. ance. A hearty welcome to all. Wedding. The marriage of Miss Nancy Watkin, youngest daughter of the late Mr William Watkin, Muriaa, Criccietb, and of Mrs Watkin, and Lieutenant John Beaumont Banks, youngest son of Mr W. L. Banks, Bron. l!ys Court, Breeonsbire, took place in the Parish Church, Criecietb, on Wed. nesday week. Mrs Gwynoro Davies, Haulfryn, Barmoutb (the bride's sister) gave her away. The ceremony was performed by the Archdeacon. Obitaary.—Many of our readers will be sorry to learn of the death of Mr J. J. Thomas, Talsarnau, which took place on Thursday afternoon. He was a native of Bala, but had been school. master at Talsarnau for thirty.three yeara. He was a member of the Bar- jnouth County School Governors, and had on several occasions conducted the Methodist Singing Festival at Bar- moutb. He was 56 years of age, and leaves a widow and three children. 'V Cricket.—Our genial townsman, Mr Henry Freeman, Glanmeon, who is spending his holidays with his brother at Northwicb. has again taken to bis favourite recreation, viz., cricket, and has played in a number of gam' The following appeared in the :thwicb Chronicle for last Saturday, under the cricket notes: Freeman played a not.out innings of 14, his runs being got principally on the leg-side and were hall-marked by c!ev&r placing. He also gave an object lesson in how to play straight bat." Obituary.—Many Barmoutb people will regret to bear of the death of Adelaide, widow of the late Rev. John Jones, for many years Rector of Bar- mouth. She died on July 12tb at St. Mary's Vicarage, Frone, of which Church, her eldest son, the Rev.G.G. Jones, is Vicar, and where she resided. The poor and sorrowful in that Parish have lost a constant and helpful friend. Her daily life showed forth "The beauty of Holiness." Our sympathy goes out to her two sons, the youngest of whom (Canon E. 0. Hilary omeiated. Much interest was taken in the event by the people of Barmouth, where the bride's family are highly esteemed. The bride has held the poai. tion of organist at the Wee!eyan Chape! for some years, and is one of the active members of the Sunday School. The bridegroom has jl1Btretnrned from Siberia, having spent some years in research work. The bride and bride- groom left during the dAY for the beau- tiful Vale of Evesbam where the honey- moon is being spent. Aber Artro Soldiers—A number of the wounded men paid a visit to Bar- moutb on Monday !ast, and were enter- tained to tea at the Waveriey Cfe as the guests of Mrs GriSStb, Vulcan ViHa, who draws comfort and consolation from the thoughts that others—though strangers-are extending simitar bospi. taiity to her soldier sons—threes of whom are now in hospital and the fourth in the firing line in France. Monday being a beautiful day, the men expressed themselves highly delighted with their viait, and said they considered Barmouth one of the most deiightfu! spots they bad ever seen. A number of kind people are waiting tbeir turn to welcome the men, so as to ma,ke their visit such as they can look buck upon with happy recollections. Girls' Friendly Society. I The old favourites, Mr Edward Pare I (the genia! "Sir Edward ") and Mr Harry Bowden (the Hon. Hirry) are again in the ascendant, and they have secured the services of Miss Lillie Miller (Soubrette), Mr Harry Battiste, comedian (the Squire), and Mr Bertram Montague (dear Bertie;, pianiste enter- tainment. Each artiste made a decided bit on Saturday evening, and the entertainment went with a rare swing from start to nnisb, and the whole company are, without doubt, par excel- lence. The songs and concerted items are by the kind permission of Messrs Francis and Day, Bert Feidman, Lawrence Wrigbt, Reynotdw, and the Star Publishing Co., and Messrs Pare ? and Bowden have made arrangements with the Proprietors of "Tit.Bits "to give away various prizes in connection with this paper on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings.
