EMPIRE DAY CELEBRATIONS AT…
and thus a nucleus was formed of a fund rom which little parcels will be sent to our boys to cheer and comfort them in their hour of need. It is intended to replenish and augment this fund occasionally, as long as the war will last. The day was one to belong remembered by the Boy Scouts, who, under the leadership of tbeir excellent and energetic Scoutmaster, Mr D. R. Williams, and his assistant, Mr Caradoc Evans, paraded the town, behind their bugle- band, their banner, and the grand old British flag. At 2-30 they were joined by the Bcntddu contingent of Roy Scouts, nnd marched to the Kecreaiioa Ground, where Athletic Sports on a modest scale were indulged in. The young aspirants acquitted themselves with much credit, and seme of the races, particularly the 100 yards, won by Bugler Robert Henry Williams, proved the competitors to be extraordinarily fleet of foot. After the sports, by the exceedingly generous invitation of Mr and Mrs Lloyd, Min-y mor, the Barmouth and Bontddn Scouts, as well as a number of the Committee, were entertained to a suriipt, iiotif, tea,and after the exertions-iqnd the out-door exercise, it is needless to state with what relish the boys sat to their meal. At the conclusion, a hearty vote of thanks was proposed to Mr and Mrs Llovd by the Secretary, Mr John Jones, The Library, seconded by Councillor R. W. Jones, and the hearty and spontaneous cheers of the lads was ample testimony of their gratitude. Mr Ernest Lloyd who is anuseful and active member of the Boy Scouts Committee, in responding to the vote of thanks, said how pleased he was with the good conduct nf the Boy Scouts, and Mrs Lloyd and himself hoped to see them at Min-y-mor again "on some future occasion. Though very tired, the boys paraded the town, carrying a. big banner on which was inscribed an invitation to the evening concert. In addition to the members of the Committee, valuable assistance was rendered on the field by Lieutenant Piggott, Lieutenant Ogden, Lieutenant Bull, Mr Harry Kirk and others, to all of whom we wish to lender our warmest thanks. The evening concert, presided over by Mr T. W. Piggott, J.P.. was a great success. There was but one drawback the Pavilion conic] not be got and the Assembly Room was too small, people having to be refused admission. This great success was due to the indefatig- able energy of Lieutenant A. L. Ogden, who bad spared neither time nor trouble in the pre-arrangements, and though wired for to go Aldershot, came all the way back to keep his engagements. Lieutenant Ogden, who attained such popularity as a comedian throughout Australia, well sustained his reputation on Wednesday, erery item he rendered being vociferously encored. The Com- mittee, and indeed the whole town, is under a deep debt of gratitude to the yofcng Lieutenant, and we only hope that an opportunity will present itself for us to bear him again. The following took part in the pro- gramme :-Miss Mary Evans, Miss Olive Dennis, Miss Blodwen Hughes, Miss Jenny Jones, Moss Bank; Miss Nina Lloyd Davies, Lieutentant A. W. Ogden, Mr Harry Kirk, Mr D. Walter Davies, Mr David Roberts (harpist), Coronation Silver Band (conductor, Mr W. E. Williams), and the Boy Scouts. The accompanists were Misses Maggie Thomas, Blcdwen Hughes, and :Ml' Hope Jones, N.P. Bank. To all the other kind friends who assisted to make the evening enjoyable, nothing but the highest praise is due. We are sorely tempted to give names, but we are compelled to refrain owing to space. In this way, our lady and juvenile artistes are able to do THEIR bit to win the war, and from the cheerful manner in which they consented to assist this lirefe, we feel sure we can rely upon their further assistance when required.
