BARMOUTH. I Local Tribunal.—The local tribunal I met on Tuesday last when three appeals were under consideration. Council School.Miss Betty Roberts, Dolgelley, has been appointed assistant teacher at the Barmouth Council School (Mixed Department). Sheep Worrying.-During the last few days, over twenty sheep belonging to Sylfaen Farm have been killed by •dogs. Snowdrop Band. — A meeting was held on Thursday at the Caersalem Schoolroom, Miss M. Jones Owen presiding. Mr John Lloyd, M.A., gave an excellent address on 11 Helen Keller." Missionary Meeting.—On Thursday evening last, a missionary meeting was held at the Siloam Chapel when an ex- cellent address was delivered by the Rev. J Rowlands, a missionary. From Afar.—Mr Richard Morris, 1, GlYndwr, who holds an important Position in a lighthouse in the Red Sea, arrived home on Friday night for a ahort furlough, after an absence of seventeen months. \¡ Welsh Troops.—The Picture Post ard Day in aid of the Rational Fund or Welsh Troops will take place at Barrnouth on Saturday, March 4tb. The local Secretary is Miss Doli Richards, 9reenhill. Enquiry.—On Friday las at the Rail- way Station, Rarmouth, a representative from the Board of Trade conducted an enquiry into the fatal railway accident which occurred at Barmoutb on New Year's Day. Second-Lieutenant Edmund Maurice Buckley, who was in charge of the Barmouth platoon of the 1/7 R. W.F. at the Dardanelles, and who died from wounds, was heir to Sir Edmund Buckley, Greenhill, left £ 7,086. New Management.—We beg to call the attention of the inhabitants of Barmouth and district that Mrs Berrill has taken over the laundry business j recently carried on by Mrs Davies at Pantllan, and hopes to receive the patronage of the inhabitants.—Adv. Wounded at the Front.—On Friday last, Mr and Mrs Griffith Edwards, Mot-ben Villa, teceived intimation that their only son—Gunner John Rees Edwards-serving with the 12th Batt. Annerley Corder, late Maesyneuadd HalfJ Taisar- nau, has been promoted to the rank of colonel. He was at the Dardanelles during the operations there and is now somewhere in Egypt. Major Annerley is well-known in the locality as he bad resided for some time at Fronaig, Barmouth, and has many friends here who will be glad to hear of his promotion. Our Wounded Boys. — Sad and lamentable news are continually reach- ing the town that some of our brave boys in the theatre of war are compelled to fall off for a time. Some are suffering from wounds, others from frost bites, and others from fevers and exhaustion: Good and very encouraging news was received by Mrs Angell Jones on Monday last that the doctor bad reported very favourably upon the case of Thomas Hugh Jones, and hopefully expressed an opinion that be wouid have a speedy recovery. Thomas Hugh's case has truly been a sad one. He has under- gone five operations at different times, and has suffered greatly. It is a com- fort, however, to learn what the dpctor said Jones," he said, is a brick, very plucky and honourable." Thomas Hugh himself brings a philosophical mind to bear upon the case, for he said Com- pared with others, I consider myself lucky to have escaped with my Jife." Mr and Mrs Wright, who are well- known visitors at Barmouth, and who stay at Bod Idris, have been most generous and kind to him, and still continue to be so. May he have a speedy and complete recovery is the wish and prayer of his many friends at Barmouth. I The Mussel Industry. — At the monthly meeting of the Dovey, Mawddach Fishery Board, held at the Police Station, Barmouth, on Thursday last, a letter was read from the Lancashire and Western Sea Fisheries stating that they were waiting for the instructions from the Board of Trade as to the construction of mussel tanks at Barmouth and Aberdovey.—On the proposition of Alderman T. Martin Williams it was unanimously decided that this Fishery Board deplored the inexcusable delay with the progress of the mussel tanks at Barmouth, Aber- dovey and Portmadoc, caused by the I fact that the Board of Trade delayed granting the necessary authorities to proceed with the work. Accident.—On Thursday night a young girl named Miss J. A. Roberts, Pantllan, Arthog, met with a rather serious bicycle accident Its appears that she was descending Graigfach Hill when she lost control of her machine and dashed into the wall at the bottom. Luckily Messrs Owen M. Williams, Ceylon House and Mr J. H. Griffith, Glantraeth, happened to be passing at the time, and rendered first aid to the young girl, and carried her to Mrs John Lewis' bouse. Later Dr. Pugh Jones arrived and Miss Jones was removed to 8, Glasfor Terrace in a motor-car. We are glad to understand she is recovering as well as can be expected. Bowling Club.—A niogb enjoyable and successful Whist Drive, organised by the Committee of the Bowling Club,was held in the Masonic Hall on Thursday evening last. The programme consisted of 24 games. Miss Ingram won the first prize for ladies (a marmalade jar, given by Mr Owen Parry, Kimberley House) with a score of 186, Mrs Nichols taking the second prize (a large bottle of perfume, given by Mr Harold Jones, Hairdresser) with a score of 180. Mr Edwin Lloyd won the "booby" prize. Mr Wainwright, Minafon, with a score of 176, won the first prize for gentlemen (an umbrella given by the Committee). Mr Hugh Pugh Williams, Victoria Buildings, who scored 171, took the second prize (a fountain pen given by Mr Rhys Jones, Glanymor the "booby" prize going to Mr Freeman, Greenhill. The duties of M.C. were ably carried out by Mr G. E. Owen, Wern assisted by Councillor R. W. Jones, The catering was efiicientty carried out by Mr Gwilym Davies, Waverley Cafe. Prizes have already been promised if the Committee decide to hold another Whist Drive. I Barmouth and District School Managers.—The monthly meeting of the above Managers was held on Wednesday last, Mr Robert Jones, Eitbinfynydd, presiding.-It was decided that the Clerk should communicate with the Secretary of the County Education Committee with regard to granting per- mission to children under 13 years of age to leave school at the present time. It was resolved to recommend the County Education Committee to increase the salaries of some of the asistant teachers.—It was resolved that permission should be granted to the Congregationalists to have the use of the Arthog Council School to prepare meals on the occasion of the festival to be held at Arthog.—A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr George Davidson, Harlech, for his generosity in giving tea parties to different schools in the district. The Council's Workmen.—On Tues- day night the Barmouth Urban District Council met in committee to consider an application made by four of the workmen for an inorease of wages from 21/- a week to 24/- a week. Yesterday morning (Wednesday) the Chairman of the Council (Mr J. Pryce Jones, J.P.) and the Surveyor met the four workmen who were approached as to whether they were willing to work for the same wages, viz., £1 and 1/- war bonus. The workmen declined to work for the same wages. In our advertising columns it wiil be seen that the Council are inviting applications for workmen to carry out the usual scavenging work of the town at a weekly wage of JE1, plus 1/- war bonus bonqs. Nursing.—At the annual meeting of the Harlech and District Nursing Association held last week, Nurse Griffiths, Gwril View, Barmouth, was re-appointed as district nurse.-Dr. R. T. Jones (High Sheriff) spoke highly of Nurse Griffiths capabilities and her kindness to all the patients. He hoped that all the members of the Committee would do their best to make her as happy as possible as he felt sure it would be the Association's advantage to keep such a reliable and capable nurse and one so fond of her work.—The Hon. Secretary, in the course of her annual report, stated that the patients spoke most highly of the Nurse services and the kindness shown them The Com- mittee were pleased to increase her salary by nine pounds per annum in recognition of her services. Red Cross.—The weekly meeting of I the above was held on Wednesday last, at the Church Hall. There was a splen- did attendance and many ladies had made a special effort to bring in their work in order to swell the amount sent to London this week, for which we feel very grateful. The following things were handed in finisbed :-Five shirts, 1 pair pyjamas, 1 helmet, 4 bed jackets, 3 pairs mittens, 29 pairs socks, 15 scarves and 72 bandages. The gifts for the week ending Feb. 16th were as follows:—The Belgian Society (part profits of concert held Feb. 9th) eo 5s. A Friend (per Mrs Williams, G.W.R. Enquiry Offices) 2s.; Mrs Roberts, Inveruga, 1 scarf and 1 pair socks Miss A. E. Rees, Brynglas, a pyjama ties. We wish to record our very sincere thanks to the Belgian Society for their generous action in giving us the part profits of their concert of Feb. 9tb, which was a great help.
