THE WELSH NATIONAL SCHEME FOR 1l ELSH SOLDIERS AND SAILORS. After consultation with a num- ber of bis fellow-countrymen, General Owen Thomas has arranged to call a Conference, representative of all the National Forces in the Principality to meet at the Shire Hall, Shrewsbury, on Friday, February 25 to pro- mote cbe National Scheme for safeguarding the interests of Welsh Soldiers and Sailors and their dependents during and after the War. The detailed Scheme is as follows :— (1) To welcome Welsh Soldiers and Sailors on their return to their homes after the War; to assist them in taking the fullest advantage of tho financial provisions con- tained, in any Government Scheme, and in any Scheme which may hereafter be formulated by the Govern- ment; to render assistance to them in obtaining rein- statement in their former posts, or securing other suit- able employment at homo or abroad; to assist all the maimed by teaching them some suitable trade or pro- fession, which will enable them to feel more independent and render service to their couutry; and to give financial aid in exceptional cases. To compile a Register of Employers pledged to give preference, wherever possible, to Welsh Soldiers and Sailors seeking employment. (2) To provide adequately for the moral and intellectual needs nf the members of every Welsh unit at home and abroad to see that they are provided with regular minis- trationS) such as they have always been accustomed to,and to see that they receive pastoral attention. To provide suitable liter- ature in Welsh and English for their use. I To arrange for and render assistance in organising enter- tainments and recreation. (g) To advise and assist those who have enlisted under the Group System, or who may hereafter enlist, as to the desirability of their joining a Welsh unit. (4) Generally to take any other steps which may hereafter be decided upon by the National Committee to safeguard the interests of Welsh Soldiers and Sailors and their dependents.

Alien's Forbidden Districts—By an Order published on Friday night in the London Gazette," the Home Secretary has made a number of additions to the list of prohibited areas under the Alien's Restriction Order, and amongst the towns included in the Order is Bar- mouth. Temperance—On Tuesday night, a temperance meeting was held at the Caersaiem Scboo)-room under the pres- idency of Mr Rhys Jones. There was a large attendance. An excellent ad- dress was given by Pienydd, fdso a duett by Miss Gretta Lumiey Jones, Gwalia Stores, and Miss Bessie Ricbat-ds, Church Place. A chorus was also ren- dered by the Boy Scouts under the leadership of Scoutmaster D. R.Wi!— nams. The accompanists were Misses Nellie Roberts, Aetybryn Madge Price, Brynitbe!; and Betty Lewis, Gianaber ViHas. The usual vote of thanks were proposed and seconded by Aiderman T.
