IMPORTANT TO PARENTS.
IMPORTANT TO PARENTS. Dr. Edwards, the Educational Medical Officer for Merioneth- shire, called at the Barmouth Council School on Friday last. In his intensely interesting ad- dress to the scholars, he pointed out truths that parents and guardians of children would do well to consider carefully The most serious, perhaps, of all his statements was, that a higher percentage of the Bar- mouth children suffered from debility than those of any othor place in the county, The sole reason for this serious state of things was want of proper nourishment, and inadequate rest. He gave it as his sound medical opinion, that every child, up to twelve years of age, should be in bed at 9 o'clock at the very latest. He had occasion to be in Barmouth as late as ten o'clock on several evenings, and greatly to his surprise and grief, be had seen little children from 7 to 12 years of age running about on the street. Such a state of affairs was a disgrace to, the parents, it was a cruelty to the child, and nothing short of a-crime. If he could find out that any church or chapel in the town held meetings at which children were induced, to attend later than eight o'clock, he would feel it his bounden duty to call their attention to such misconduct, but he hoped there was no such cause. Only a few days ago his atten- tion had been drawn to a boy i about 12 years of age smoking a cigarette. In face of the stringency of the Law on this matter, he did not know how a boy of such tender years could have obtained the cigarettes, but he was making it his, business, to consult Inspector Evans, and any one in Barmouth who will sell cigarettes to children u€der age, will know that they are carefully watched, and when found out must expect no mercy. Another matter which Dr. Edwards dwelt upon at some length was the importance for children to keep their teeth clean. He gave a graphic discription, which the children seemed to fully appreciate, of how thousands of germs fed upon morsels of food left at the root of the teeth, and gradually ate the tooth and caused it to decay consequently the decayed teeth told upon the stomach and the health generally. He made an urgent appeal to every boy and girl to save their pennies to buy a tooth brush, and carefully wash their teeth every morning and every night. If this was done carefully and regularly, they would not only preserve the beauty of their teeth for many years longer, but they would also enjoy better health. Every child promised to get a brush without delay. It is greatly to be hoped that parents will encourage their children to practice this cleanly habit, which Dr. Edwards proved so conclusively to be beneficial to their health. Will the ministers of the town, and members of the Free Church Council, not follow up this most timely and urgent advice of the Medical Officer, and appeal to the common sense of parents, not to allow their child- ren to run wild about the < streets late at night, to the detri- ment of their moral and physical well-being?
f. BARMOUTH PROOF
f BARMOUTH PROOF- And not only Barmouth proof, but proof which has stood the test of time, More convincing testimony would be impossible to find. On August 81st, 1911, Mr J. E. Rogers, of 2, Victoria Place, Barmouth, said:—" I have had severe pains right acoss my back and loins for the last few months, probably the result of a cold I caught which affected my kidneys. Headaches and dizziness, too, troubled me. The kidney excretions were far from right, and left a sediment. "After taking Doan's backache kid- ney pills I felt much better, my back was stronger and the water became natural. I always recommend Doan,s pills. (Signed) J. E. Rogers." On February 4th. 1914-ovei- two years later-Mr Rogers said :—" I am keeping very well and have recommend Doan's pills, for I have found them very beneficial. Backache, gravel, dropsical swellings, urinary disorders, rheumatic twinges, headaches and dizzy spells are enough to suspect kidney disease. Doan,s backache kidney pills are solely for the kidneys and bladder, and afford health and strength to thousands. S Price 2/9 a box, 6 boxes 18/9, of all dealers, or from Foster-McClellan Co. 8, Wells Street, Oxford Street, London W. Don't ask for backache or kidney pills, ask distinctly for Doan's backache kidney pills, the same as Mr Rogers had.
