BARMOUTH -COUNCIL. i
Mr John Morgan said that the Coun- cil bad passed to interview the land- owners between Victoria Place and Hendremynacb, and he should like to see that improvement also carried out. He believed that now was the time for the Council to move in the matter, and prepare another scheme to the Road Board with a view of obtaining a grant to carry out the scheme. The Chairman explained that why the I King's Crescent landowners had been seen now was that Mrs P-arker Smith t had mentioned that fact to the Council I 1 and therefore they thought that that would facilitate the other scheme which was now on hand. On the proposition of Dr. J. Pugh Jones, seconded by Mr J. Pryce Jones, it was decided that a letter should be sent to Mrs Parker Smith mentioning the fact that the owners of King's Crescent had consented to give land for widening the road at that spot. Mrs Parker Smith wrote to state that the Trustees bad no wish to stand in the way of any improvements to Bar- mouth, but while the menace of King's Crescent remains they could not believe that widening the road elsewhere would do anything but increase its danger. LLANABER ROAD IMPROVEMENT The Surveyor reported that the plans and conditions re the widening of the Llanaber Road had been submitted by the Architects for the Council's ap- proval. It was decided, on the proposition of Mr Henry Freeman, seconded by Mr R. G. Moore, that a special meeting should be convened to discuss the mat- ter fully next Monday evening. AN APPRECIATION OF RARMOUTH A letter was read from Mr Samuel S. Mc Curry, Kingstown, Ireland, stating that be was gladio see some days ago in the daily press that the Urban Coun oil were about to spend a large sum of money in improving the town, and as a visitor who has just returned from spending a month in your beautiful town, be would like to make a sugges- tion. He had stayed in the little ter- races overlooking the Estuary and frequently crossed the Railway Bridge to Fairbourne, Arthog, etc., but they always had to complain about the path between the end of the Bridge and Barmouth Junction. It was most pain- ful to walk on the loose sand which was so very fine and dry as to make one's feet sink at every step. It would not cost a great deal to have a narrow path constructed along the part he bad re- ferred to and be was sure that everybody would feel it a great boom. Their recent visit was the first to Barmouth, but his family hoped to return again next year as it was the choicest place in Wales where they had stayed at and he bad not failed to state so to all his friends since his return home. Hoping the matte.. would have attention from the Council or from the Cambrian Rail- ways Company. On the proposition of Mr Henry Freeman, it was decided that a copy of the letter should be sent on to the Cambrian Railways Company. APPOINTMENT OF SURVEYOR. On the proposition of Mr R. G. Moore, seconded by Mr Edward Williams, it was decided to reappoint Mr T. R. Parry as Surveyor. I- ROAD REPAIRING. Mr John Morgan called attention to the bad state of the road between v V* the Police Station and Cilmynacb, and he observed there was no report on this road from the Works Committee or Surveyor. The Surveyor said the Works Com- mittee did not feel inclined to have a large quantity of tarvia so as to repair the road. Mr J. Pryce Jones said he understood that the Works Committee had given power to the Surveyor to have a cask or two of tarvia. Mr John Morgan said two casks of tasvia would not be enough to repair the road. This road was in a very bad state and the Council would have to re- pair it sooner or later. The Surveyor .should have power to repair the road thoroughly and to purchase a quantity of tarvia. Mr J. Pryce Jones said the matter had been thrashed out at the Works Committee and the decision came to was that it would not be advantagiously to tarvia the road this time of the year, and further, the Council had not the means to repair the whole length properly, but the motor holes could be attended to. Mr Edward Williams seconded Mr Morgan's proposition. He believed that it would be a saving to the Council if the work was done now as the road was in a proper state to take the tarvia. They were duty bound to keep the roads in good order. Dr. J. Pugh Jones said that the Sur- veyor hhd power to have a quantity of tarvia to repair the motor boles. Did they mean that the whole surface of the road should be repaired ? Mr John Morgan-Yes. Mr Henry Freeman said that if the work of widening the roads in that vicinity would be proceeded with it would be better to defer the repairing of this road until those improvements bad been carried out. Mr Edward Williams said they could wait until dooms day before those im- provements could be carried out. After some further discussion, it was decided to repair the road. I MANURE HEAPS. The Surveyor reported that the owners of the manure heaps by the Recreation Ground Tennis Courts bad I by now been covered over with seaweed, etc., thus complying with the Council's wishes. I A TRIBUTE TO THE RATEPAYERS. The Chairman said that the Council ought to be proud that the ratepayers had responded so well in paying the rates, and the Rate Collector bad collec- ted more daring the last month than was the case for the coresponding month last year. They were all very pleased with the-work done by the Rate Collec- tor, and were very grateful to the rate- payers for helping the Council in this respect. The Council sat for two hours.
