WINTER ON CARDIGAN BAY.
WINTER ON CARDIGAN BAY. During recent years it has, be- come an increasing annual com- plaint on the par'b of many people of delicate constitution that they are unable to withstand the rigours of an English Winter, and are compelled to seek other climes which have the reputation of being milder and more suit- able for Winter residence, in order to avoid the foggy Novem- ber days, and the cold winds, frost, snow and other contrary elements which we Britishers are annually called upon to endure. Such persons regularly betake themselves each Autumn to the French Riviera or other well- known Winter Resort, thereby inflicting upon themselves a long tiresome journey and the other concomitant discomforts of travelling abroad, to say nothing of the expense which such migrations involve. It is highly probable that the majority of such people have never given a thought to the possibility of there being places nearer home, which nature has provided for their benefit, and which meet in every respect the requirements they are out to seek. The Cardigan Bay Resorts have hitherto been regarded, except by a few, as Summer Resorts only, but it is nevertheless true that i owing to their unique position, sheltered as they are from the biting North and Bast winds by the Cambrian Range of Moun- tains, most of them facing either South or South-West, and enjoy- ing as they do the direct warming influence of'the Gulf Stream, they are eminently suitable as places for Winter Residence. The Climate is mild and yet invigorating, while the tempera- ture is equable and not subject to those sudden changes which are so dangerous to persons in delicate health. The rainfall is below the average, and as the subsoil is of a gravelly nature, rain quickly disappears and. leaves the atmosphere dry and bracing. The meteorological records also serve to prove that this Coast enjoys the maximum of sunshine, and it will thus be ob- served that all the essentials of a Winter Health Resort are here present, and these, combined with the added advantage of its clo'ser proximity to London and the principal industrial centres, ren- der it convenient not only for periods of continuous residence for the invalid, but for week-ends for the business man, who is thus enabled to recruit his flagg- ing energies and to keep himself thoroughly fit during the trying Winter months. Tourist, Week-end, and Long Period TicKets are issued from the principal centres all the year round, and Express Trains, with Through Carriages (steam-heated | thr&ughout during the Winter months), run daily between Lon- don, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Aberystwyth, Bar- mouth, Pwllheli, and other Coast Resorts. w.iyj. ipjff-*■!»■ -irTCTgwiri^rrffm
