BONTDDU. Concert.-A concert was given on Wednesday evening in the Bontddu Schoolroom, in aid of the Prince of Wales Relief Fund (Local Branch). The following ladies and gentlemen most kindly gave their services Mrs Heath, Miss Muriel and Miss Kathleen Oliver, Miss Edith Jones, Mrs Farnell, Miss Flitch, Mr Ernest Roberts (harpist), Dr. J. R. Heath, Tynycoed, Barmoutb, Mr Edward Roberts' Borth Choir, Mr Richard Jones' vocal quartette, Mr Gordon Oliver (comic songs). The audience was most appreciative and the room filled to overflowing. Thanks to the kind loan of a piano from Mrs Roberts of Brynmawddach, and the valuable financial and other help given by Mr Bishop and others in Bont- ddu and the neighbourhood, no expenses were incurred and the total sum realised by the concert, £6 8s. Od., was sent to the Lord Lieutenant of the County.

Appointment.—On Tuesday last, at a meeting of the Penrhyndeudraeth Board of Guardians, Mr and Mrs Samuel Williams, Bronygraig, were appointed as workhouse master and matron, out of thirty-one applicants. Dancing.-Last Wednesday week, Miss Janett Crabbe, the wonderful child y dancer, fulfilled an engagement at the L Alfresco Pavilion, Oiccietb, which was r crowded. This talanted young artiste bad a splendid reception and had to appear several times. Books of Interest to Yisitore and Others.—"Marianne Farningham in Her Welsh Home," with portrait of the eminent authoress and her Barmouth Home. Also "Bunyan Yesterday and To-day," a tale that has thrilled the ages. Special references to the dedica- tion of the Bunyan Memorial Window in Westminster. Both books by W. Glandwr Morgan. The War.—On Tuesday evening, at the Belle Vue Hall, a representative meeting was held to consider the advis- ability of forming a battalion for the defence of Merionethshire in case of invasion. The chair was taken by I Mr Rhys Jones, J.P. Addresses were de- livered by Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, Bart,, the Rev. Gwynoro Davies, Sir Henry Robertson, Bart., Alderman T. Martin Williams, J.P., and Mr Thomas W. Piggott, J.P. All the speakers made earnest appeals to the young men to join the Army. The Rev. R. Lloyd Roberts, M.A., R.D., proposed that the ministers and clergy should canvass the town and ask every individual face to face.—Rev. Father Wilcock seconded, which was carried unanimously.-It was decided that the ministers and clergy should meet on Wednesday night to make the arrangements. Advertising Committee.—A special meeting of the Advertising Committee was held on Thursday evening last under the presidency of Mr Rhys Jones, J.P. There were also present ;—Messrs h John Walters, J. Jones (The Library), William Owen, R. G. Moore, John Morgan, John Roberts, J. Pryce Jones, and Richard Davies, Fron- hyfryd, with Mr R. Llewelyn Owen, secretary.—The Chairman explained hat Mr Herbert Williams, traffic v superintendent of the Cambrian Rail- ways Company, bad called upon him regarding the development and exten- sion of the holiday season. The pro- posals of the Railway Company was the distribution at once of a large number of circulars and posters, as well as news- paper advertising, setting forth the normal conditions now prevailing. It was confidently anticipated that the united efforts of the Advertising Com mittee and Railway Company would have beneficial results in bringing visi- tors to the town during the month of September.—It was unanimously de- cided to subscribe £5 towards the scheme. To-night.—We cannot all of us join i Lord Kitchener's Army. We cannot all shoulder a rifle in the Territorial Force. We cannot all subscribe large amounts, or offer shelter and succour to the wounded, but we can all help to en- courage, and make brighter the sad days of our brave and gallant who sacrifice all that is dear to them—even life itself, to defend our home and liberty. To-night (Thursday) a great Patriotic Entertainment will be given at the Pavilion in aid of the Prince of Wales Fund. Surely those who cannot afford a front seat will be ready and willing to sacrifice a shilling or a six- pence in support of such an excellent cause. The cause is one that leads as to anticipate *a crowded house, and in addition to the startling display of Army and Navy Pictures from 7 to 8, special efforts are made by the marvel- lous Spinette Quintette to provide their great night of the season. Seats at 2/6 and 1/6 can be reserved at tbepavilion Box Office. We trust tti&t business places in the town will be closed as early as possible and that a great crowd of visitors and inhabitants will be carried to the Pavilion on the crest of the Patriotic Wave.
