BARMOUTH. ¡ Nightingale.- Yesterday (Wednesday) a Nightingale was to be beard in full song at a tradesmen's shop in the town. Tradesmen's Association.—A meeting of the Tradesmen's Association was convened for last Monday with regard to the tradesmen's annual holiday, but only three or four members turned up and consequently nothing was done. Why the tradesmen fail to meet is I hard to understand as a general holiday for the tradesmen and assistants is most welcomed. Unionist Club—Mrs Keigbtley of Glanmawddaeh, has, with her usual well-known generosity, presented the above Club's Library with a large num- ber of beautiful, good and useful books. The reading public of Barmouth are under a great obligation to Mrs Keigbtiley for her kindness in presenting from time to time to our libraries such splendid and up-to-date books. Barmouth Library.-On Monday last a meeting of the Book Committee was held under the presidency of Mr Hum- phrey Jones, L. C. & Midland' Bank. There were also present: Dr. J. 0. Williams, Dr. J, Pugh Jones, Mr Rhys Jones, Mr Henry Freeman, Mr Morris G. Roberts, and the Secretary.—This being the first meeting of the newly- elected Book Committee," the Rev. R. Lloyd Roberts, M.A., was unanimously elected chairman for the ensuing year. The Secretary reported having received a magnificent gift of seventy volumes from Mrs Keightley of Glanmawddaeh. Every member present spoke in high terms of the generosity of the donor and of the.deep debt of gratitude which the Institution owes to Mrs Keightiey. On the motion of Dr. J. 0. Williams, seconded by Mr Rhys Jones, the Secre- tary was instructed to convey the Com- mitter's most. sincere thanks to Mrs Keightley for her valuable and most "welcome gift.—The Secretary further reported having received the newly published book',e:ntitIed,"Tl;e Philosophy of Welsh History" 'from Mr J. A. Dorsett. The gilt was most cordially ] accepted, and a. ,bearty vote of thanks was passed to. the donor. It was pointed out that the books', presented by Mrs Keightley and Mr Dorsett during the last few years were so valuable and numerous that the Committee have not been under the necessity of spending much in the purchase of new books.— I It was resolved that the "Fanner," a weekly Welsh pap,pt-, be purchased for the reading room. j Art Picture House.—It will be seen from our advertising columns that the above will re-open after the annual spring cleaning on Monday next, and the management have secured the well- known Vitagraph star picture, "The Deerslayer" and other travel comedy and comic pictures for -the opening night. We may draw the attention of our readers to the good reputation that this Picture House has gained for their expert projection and clearness of their pictures. Many visitors during the Easter Hoidays expressed the opinion that these pictures would com- pare with any show in our largest towns. The town is under a great obligation to Mr John Walters and his partner, Mr Law, for providing the town with such an up-to-date place of entertainment. Presentation to a Barmouth Young Man.—On Thursday night, at the Builth Wells Railway Station, the employees of the Cambrian Railway Company acknowledged six years faithful service of a fellow workman when they pre- sented Mr Griffith Richards, Whitfield House, Abermaw Terrace, Barmouth with a handsome time-piece and a purse of gold on the occasion of his departure from Builth Weils to Harlech.—Mr John Jones (stationmaster), in making the presentation on behalf of the em i ployees, remaiked that the credit of getting up the presentation was due to Mr W. S. Williams, who had collected the money and had carried everything to a successful issue. He was sorry to part with Mr Richards, and was able to say that during the six years he had been with them at Builth Station be bad not in any way neglected the in- terests of the Company, and had been most obliging to the tradespeople and others with whom tbeyhadto deal. Many had spoken to him about the courteous way in which they had been treated by Mr Richards, and about his readiness and willingness to go out of his way to assist the public. The number of people from the town who bad sub- scribed to the presentation was a testi- mony to the manner in which they ap- preciated the brue and faithful services of Mr Richards during his stay at Builth Wells. Personally be would miss him very much, for be was always ready to do whatever he was asked to perform. He wished him every prosperity at Harlech, and be then asked him, on be- half of the subscribers, to accept the clock and purse of gold.-Inspector David Evans observed that during the time that Mr Richards had been at Builth Wells be had been always ready and obliging. It was never too late or too early for him to look after the Com- pany's interests and to discharge his duties to all concerned. The loss that they would sustain at Builth Wells Station would prove a gain to Harlech. —Mr W. S. Williams said that he was very sorry that Mr Richards was going from Builth Wells, as they had worked together on the most friendly terms. It had been a pleasure for him to ask for subscriptions, as every one whom be had asked bad givep willingly.—Several other complimentary speeches were made, and Mr Richards, in acknowled- ging the presentation, expressed how sorry he was to leave Builth Wells, and thanked them for the kindness to him at all times.—The clock was incribed "Presented to Griffith Richards on leaving Builth Wells SLatioD1 May, 1911. Social.—Owing to the generosity of kind friends, the members of the "Arthur Wyn" Dramatic Company were entertained to a light supper and an entertainment at the Waverly Cafe last Wednesday night. Mr Gwilym Davies had prepared an excellent re- past and the table was replenished with good things to which all did ample justice. Various toasts were proposed and responded to by the Company. After the tables bad been cleared, a programme of cards, songs, recitations, competitions, etc., was atried out. These °were greatly" enjoyed by all. During the evening votes of thanks were passed to all who had contributed to the success of the Company and to the entertainment of the evening. Mr D. R. Lewis, the energetic and pains- taking secretary of the company, had done his duties with characteristic vigour and skill and all united most heartily in thanking him.
