Marriage:—On Saturday, April 7th, a i pretty wedding took place at the Welsh Independant Chapel, Corwen. The contract- ing parties were Private Peter Jones, 15th, South Lanes. Regt., Bryn Cilan, Llandrillo, and Miss Lydia Roberts, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Roberts, Coppa'r Derw, Corwen. Tllj Rev. John Pritchard, Druid, officiated, in the presence of Mr. D. P. Davies, registrar. Pte. David S. Jones, R.W.F., brother of the bridegroom, was the best man, while Miss Mary K. Roberts, sister of the bride was the bridesmaid. Both the bride and bridesmaid were tastefully attired for the occasion and each carried a lovely boquet. The bride was given away by her father. After the ceremony the party left by motor car for the bride's home where the reception was held. The presents were numerous and costly. The honeymoon is being spent at Brymbo. Obituary :-On Wednesday, April 4th, at Burton House, Corwen, the death of Mrs. Davies occurred in her 73rd year, after a long and painful illness. Deceased- who was a member of the Church of England, carried on a business as a grocer in the town during the past thirty years. She was the widow of the late Mr. John Davies, buther, who pre-deceased her thirteen years ago. The funeral took place at Corwen Parish Churchyard on Saturday and was largely attended. Deceased was a native of Manchester. The Rev. Griffith Williams, Rector, oiffciated. The following were amongst the chief mourners present Mr. Atkinson (brother-in-law), Messrs. S. and J. Atkinson (n< pliews J Miss Mary Davies (sister-in-law); Miss Maggie Davies (n:ece) Mr. and Mrs. Ll. A. Jones, (niece), Corwen Mr. Jones, Llanfair D.C. other relatives present were Mr Roberts aud Mrs Owen, Llan- gollen Mrs Davies Trevor Mr. John Edwards, Carrog Mr. Williams, Llanelidan Mrs Hughes, Llanelidan Mn Davies, Hendy, Oynwyd Messrs. John Davies and T. Jones, Llanfair D.C. Retirement :-On his retirement as rural postman (Carnarvcn and Clynnog), Mr. David Hughes, 15 Pool Street, has received a letter from the Postmaster General. Mr. Hughes, who is a brother of Mrs. Erasmus Jones, Berwyn House, Corwen, came to Carnarvon from Llan- gollen thirteen years ago, and has been rural postman on the above mentioned route during that period. He has been in the service of the Post Office, for 33 years. The letter was in the following terms Sir,—On the occasion of your retirement from the Post Office, I desire-to express to you my appreci- atiort of the faithful service you have rendered to the State during- a pericfd" of more than* 33 years. Sue-.esS.-MiBs Gwendolen Humphreys, daughter of Mr Griffith Humphreys, pharma- ceutical chemist, High Street, Northwich (a a brother to the late Mr Thomas Humphreys, joiner, Corwen), can claim the distinction of being the first lady in Northwich to have qualified as a pharmacist. She has recently passed a qualifying examination of the Pharm- aceutical Society. Miss Humphreys served her pupilage with her father, and attended the chemistry classes at the Verdin Technical Schools, Northwich, after which she became a student in the Science and Pharmacutical Department of the Manchester University.

Jones, Hugh Morris, John Williams, T. Dudley Morgan, L. Lloyd John (Clerk), D. Davies (School Attend- ance Officer). Minutes. The minutes of the last meeting were read, confirmed, and signed by the Chairman, Employment of Children on Farms. John Rowlands, Ffridd Fawr, Maerdy, app- lied for a young girl. Granted two months. Maurice Rowlands, Cefagoed, Llantysilio, was granted permission to keep his daughter at home for one month. Thomas Jones, Tynycelyn, Glyndyfrdwy, applied for a boy named Harry Devonport. Granted one month. Janet Jones, Clegir Ucha, Cvnfal, applied for Blorence Williams, Park Ucha, Bettws. Refused. D. 0. Roberts, Cefngriolen, Llanelidan, applied fur Willie Evans, Arfryn, Corwen. Granted subject to the engagement being to t he satisfaction of the Mangers. Application for an Increase of Salary. Mis Lloyd, wife of the Headmaster of Bett- ws G. G school applied for an increase in her salary. It was pointed out that she was only paid 125 per annum. She had twelve years experience as a teacher. She had to walk three milts to school daily. The Managers recommended her for an increase of not less than £ 5. The Managers were of opinion that all teachers salaries should be revised by the County Authority, as several teachers are not paid a fair living wage. Protest. I- The Rector, of Bettws wrote protesting against paying the nominal fee; tf 1/- for the hire of the School to hold a Jui-iible in aid of Church Funds. l The Clerk was directed to write to the Rector stating that the fee of is the fee- fixed by the Manage] a for the hire of Schools.. for Parish purposes in all the districts re- presented by the Managers.
