To the Editor of the "Adsain" SIR, I hasten to assure you it is through no lack of interest on the part of the ladies of the Edeyrnion district that our own Territorials have not as yet received the same winter com- forts as the men from Bala. I wrote some weeks ago to enquire as to what articles would be acceptable and useful. Unfortunately my correspondent, through enormous pressure of work delayed his reply. I wrote him again and have just had a letter from him. The articles mostly needed, he says, are socks, shirts, warm undervests and woolen jackets to wear under their service jackets—i.e. Car- digan waistcoats. But amongst the articles not required, are mufflers, night-caps (helmets, I presume), and night-socks. May I suggest that these articles be sent in suitable lots, and not in small or single parcels ? The parcels should be sent to CAPT. WYNN WILLIAMS, 69, Billing Road, Northampton, marked For the Corwen Members of H Company." I would further suggest that each parcel should bear the name and address of the secretary from which it was sent. I am, Your obedient servant, HORATIO E. WALKER, Corwen, Oct. 30th, 1914.
HADFIELD'S ROOT CROPS COMPETITION,…
HADFIELD'S ROOT CROPS COMPETITION, 1914. Report of Judge. As req uested by Mr. W. Jones Ellis, Llan- gwm, Mr. J. Phillips, Llandrillo and Mr. Hugh Jones, Carrog, I have now inspected the root crops on the five farms that have entered for the prize offered by Messrs. Geo. Hadfield & Co. Liverpool, for the best crop of Swedes grown with their manuies in the Edeyrnion and Uwchaled districts. I found excellent crops on each farm, well managed and fairly clean. Mr. R. W. Williams, Maesgadfa, Bala showed me a very nice crop, especially on such a high- lying farm, but I should have liked to se them a little cleaner. Mr. Jones Jarrett, Plas Faerdre, Corwen. The crop on one part of his field was very good, much better than on the other, which might have been a little cleaner. Mr. Hughes, Cae Mawr, Cynwyd, Corwen. Very fair crop, but singled rather badly, and could have been a little cleaner. Mr. M. Hughes, Glanalwen, Corwen. Good crop, but gappy. Headlands not sown and not very clean. Mr. E. Roberts, Tynffridd, Druid, Corwen. The crop here was very clean, even and of good size, the headlands were also good. Without any hesitation I award the prize to Mr. E. Roberts. Considering the dry spell of weather we had during September and October the swedes looked remarkably well and healthy on each farm, which speaks well for the manner with which they were grown. I wish to thank the competitors for their kindness in showing me round. HUGH HUGHES (Judge), New Inn Farm, Glyndyfrdwy, October 25thi 1914. Llangollen.
