D. Rees and Corpl. R. Hughes) visited their homes during the week-end. They report that the remainder of the members are in good spirits. Our Belgian Visitors.-On Thursday last the first contingent of Belgian Refugees arrived at Oorwen-Mons: & Madame Goelen Gossens and an infant child-and are now comfortably located near Rug in a cottage generously placed at the disposal of the Committee by the Hon. Mrs. Wynn. They were met at Ruabon Station by Mr. Lloyd John (Secretary of the Committee) and were accord- ed a hearty reception at Corwen, especially bv the School Children who were provided with Union Jacks. Mons. and Madame were visibly affected. Miss Wynn drove them in her car to their new home. They have since been the recipients of many acts of kindness from the Lady members of the Committee. Mons. Gossens was a teacher at the Muni- cipal School in the City of Malines (situate between Brussels and Antwerp) where the Arts and Crafts were taught. He applied himself more particularly to the instruction of Students in French and Flemish, and although a young man is a person of considerable Scholastic attainments. He holds a medal presented to him by the Municipality. He was Sergeant of the Guard Civique of the City, Madame's mother was killed by the Germans, and it was with great difficulty that Mons. and Madame escaped. Their house in Malines has been destroyed and they have lost all, only bringing with them a few personal effects. Madame talks French, Flemish and German. She pathetically remarked to the writer that it was her earnest desire to unlearn German as quickly as possible. The Committee hope very soon to arrange for the reception of other Refugees. In connection with the above we are re- quested to state that 5/61 was collected for "viewing" the Cottage before the arrival of the Refugees. This sum, together with contributions now being solicited will go to form the Belgian Refugees Relief Fund. It is satisfactory to note that the Lady Colletors are meeting with a generous response.
