CORWEN. I ,u Y National Reserve.—Dydd Sadwrn diweddaf aeth iiifer a aelodau lleol y National Reserve i ymuno ar Territorials yn Dref- rewydd. Byddant yn myned oddiyno i Preston Wedding: —A pretty wedding was solemn- ized at Union St. Congregational Chapel, Carmarthen, on Wednesday last, Aug., 5th. The contracting parties being Miss Winnie Haarison-J ones, daughter of Mr. David Howell Jones, late of Patagonia, and Mr. Robert M. Owen, of Port Talbot Higher Elementary School, and son of Mr. and Airs Morgan Owen, Bodheulog.Corwen. & The bride was given away by her brother- in-law, Mr. J. Harrison Evans, General Super- intendent of the Pearl Assurance Co., of Carmarthen, the Rev. Prof. Stephens, B.A., B.D., of Carmarthen, officiating Mr. J M Owen, brother of bridegroom, ably carried out the duties of best man. The bridesmaids in- eluded Mifcs Hilda Jones, sister of, bride, and Misses Naomi and Nell Owen, sisters of bride- groom, while Mr. Willie P. Williams, nephew of bride assisted. Miss M. J. Owen, sister of bridegroom, presided at the organ. After the ceremony the party left for the bride's home, 10, St. David's Avenue, where they were entertained to breakfast. The happy couple then left for Cleodon, where the honey- moon is being spent.. The gifts were both numerous and costly. War Distress Fuiid.- -A general meeting of townspeople and others was held at the Assembly Rooms last Monday evening, when Dr Walker presided over a thorough repre- sentative attendance. The meeting had been convened for the purpose of raising relief funds for the wives and families of the sick and wounded soldiers. The Hon. Mrs. Wynn, Rug, who has three sons doiug service for their country during the war, appealed to the audience to work together, and proposed that they form a committee of ladies to carry out the work to enable them to raise distress funds. Mrs Mousley, Bryntirion, had kindly promised to supply the necessary materials io tbe work. It was decided that the ladies meet at the Assembly Rooms to-day (Tuesday) at 3 o'clock, in order, to form a ,sewing class. Scores of ladies signified their willingness to assist. The following gentlemen were elected as a committee to carry out any necessary move- ment to raise distress funds for those who had Volunteered to defend their country Messrs R M Roberts, T Lloyd Jones; David Davies, John Morgan, Dudley Morgan, L Lloyd John, R James Jones, W 0 Williams, Dr Walker, Mr Robert Jones (Hafod) Inspector Parry, Mr R H Morris. Mr Lloyd John to convene a meeting of the above Committee. Mr. T Lloyd Jones suggested that the balance of the proceeds of the popular lectures held at Corwen—amounting to about £ 4 or £ 5—should be given towards the local distress fund. It was decided that the above, committee should deal with the above sum. Gifts.—The Governmeut has granted gifts of 30s. to each married postman from CorwenPost Office who has taken up arms during the present war. The wives will receive their husbands full wages weekly dur- ing the period they are serving their country.
