THE WAR FOOD SUPPLY. I
THE WAR FOOD SUPPLY. I To the Editor of the Adsain. I Sir. I have received instructions from the Government to forward twice weekly to ttie Board of Trade during the present grave crisis in our history, information with regard to the prices and supply of food, and the state of em- ployment in the District-As regards food I trust I may receive the assistance of Trades- men to whom I appeal to discourage in every possible way the inflation of food prices--I feel sure that Tradesmen generally will be anxious to help in this matter, but as regard s those who may selfishly desire to make an un- fair profit at enhanced prices, a note will be taken of all information available with regard to such persons, with a view to subsequent action against them. A word to Corwen people—No one knows how long the War will last. In the terrible times yet only dimly realized before us, we should practice the patriotism that consists' not in shouting but in working for the common good. We should avoid waste of ..every kind ?,vaste i'L everv l?l?id especially of food and coal. Petrol should not be recklessly used. The selfish policy of with- drawing gold from the Banks or hoarding up provisions and all lussiness and panic over money matters is strongly to be condemned. I am etc, L. LLOYD JOHN. Corwen, 11, August, 1914.

Merioneth and Montgomery Territorial…
Merioneth and Montgomery Territorial Force Associations. The Amoury, ,< i Welshpool, v Aug. 7th, 1914. On behalf of the above Associations I wish to suggest one way in which those who are j not yet called on to take an active part in the war can help those who have been called Lojthe colours. Now that the Montgomeryshire Yeomanry and the 7th Battalion Royal Welch Fusiliers have been mobilized the problem of gathering the harvest will be a serious one on many farms where the tenant or his sons have been called to their country's service. In these" cases assistance may be given by those left behind. It is proposed that all those requiring assist- ance in gathering the harvest and all those who are prepared to render such assistance should communicate with certain gentlemen in each district who will endeavour to bring 1 the two together. As it is most important; both to the absent tenants of farms and to the 1 country at large that the harvest should be j gathered in good condition. It is hoped that 1 a ready response may be mado to this appeal. I The following gentlemen have agreed to act 1 as intermediaries t Newtown District: -Canon,Woosnam, Aber- I hafesp Mr. Hugh Lewis, Glanhafren Mr. W. P. Phillips, The Bungalow. Welgb-pool: --Major G. H. Mytton, Garth, Welshpool; Mr. W. F. Addie, Powis Castle Park Mr. Pepper, Brynfa Mr. Stewart, do. Montgomery:—Mr. W. B. Jones, Cefn Bryn- talch; Mr. S. D. Price Davies, Broadway House, Churchstoke. Meifod and Llanfair :—Col. A. Williams- Wynn, Coed-y-maen, Meifod. Llanfyllin District :—Major J. M. Dugdale, Llwyn Mr. J. Lomax, Bodfach. Dolgelley District :-Captaia Richards, Caerynwch. Bala District Mr. W. Owen, White Lion. Towyn and A berdovey: Captain Howell, Plas Penhelig. Corwen District Dr. Walker, Plasyndref. All requiring assistance in gathering the harvest or willing to help in doing so should communicate with one of these gentlemen or with me at the Armoury, Welshpool. Yours faithfully, J. H.
