Healey rushed to, pick it up and was killed, but his act saved an ofifcer and three comrades. "It was quite easy to talk to the King," said Mrs. Healey to a Press representative. "He put me at my ease and conversed in homelv fachion with me. He expressed Ideep sympathy with me in my loss, and congratulated me upon having had such a son. He also talked about the situation, and hQped that I did not have to wait in queues. Sergeant Healey died in February of last year, and a few weeks prior to that he was home on leave, and was the recipient of a purse of Treasury notes from his numerous friends at Pontardawe. Mrs. Healey is expec- ted at Pontardawe this week, where her younger son, Mr Dennis Healey, resides. Concerts were held at Danygraig Vestry on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday nights in aid of the Dany- graig S. and S. ]fund, and the Vestry was crowded eacli evening. The concert had been arranged by Mrs. W. Jones, ajid Miss M. Morgans, Railway Banw, and much credit is due to them for their work in training the clidren.. The programme was as follows:—Pianoforte duett, Misses E. Jenkins and L. Jones; recitation. Miss L. A. Lewis; song, Master L. Dennis Rowlands; recitation, Miss G. Lewis song, Master Emlyn Janes; action son by the Young Girls; pianoforte solo, Miss A. B. John; recitation. Miss B. Bowver; action sonk, Master Emlyn, Jones; duett, Miss Tilda Jones and Master Lewis Dennis Rowlands. Sketch entitled "Mulligatawny and Spring Gleaning," the characters in which were taken by Miss A. On Saturday night 20 of the wounded soldiers from the; Infirmary were oraserut at the invitation of the oo-mmittee. The Rev. Llew. Bowyer said that they were all pleas-ed to see the wounded heroes amongst them. Pte. Gray expressed thanks on behalf of the soldiers for the kind way in which they had been received at Danygraig.

Herbert Gibbon (vice-chairman), J. Morgan (engineer), A. E. Edmunds (sanitary inspector), Wyndham Lewis (clerk), and Noah L. Davies (deputy cleriff. ALLOTMENTS AT CLYDACH. Mr. John Morgan (Engineer) report- ed that he had commenced to lay out the field at Vardre, Clydach, for allot- ments. Applications had also been re- oeived for plots. FOOD FROM A CEMETEIIY- I CHAPEL AUTHORITIES OBJECT. As the trustees of the Pantteg Chapel, Ystalyfeca, objected to the let- ting of the Cemetery for allotments, he (the Engineer) had ar- ranged with Mr. Dd. Richards to take over the field adjoining the cemetery, I the area of which was 157 perches. Two I other plots could be taken over. -No applications, however, had been re- ceived from this locality. DAMAGED ROADS. The Engineer also said he had re- ceived a letter from the county survey- or that the Roads to no Control Com- mittee were endeavouring to arrange for the cost or part thereof of mak- ing good the damage done te roads by timber or similar. haulage to be borne by the War Office. Mr. H. J. Powell called attention im the need of pressing forward their claims for extra polling booths in the district in view of a general electioa taking place this year. Gilbert^>n and Co. wrote pointing out that in' view of the fur- ther developments at their works, they suggested a conference with the Coun- cil in order to consider the question of housing accommodation. The matter was left in the hands of the clerk to arrange. I R.A.O.B. APPLICATION. An application was received for thb holding of a sacred concert- at the Pavilion, Pontardawe, on Sunday, March 3rd, in aid of the R.A.O.B. Evan Davies moved that the application be granted, as he knew something of the great work done by the Order in connection with the war. The resolution wa.s carried. I oriUK i AGE OF HORSES AT I m, CLYDACH. i I ine War Agricultural Committee wrote granting permission to enter the field of Mr. Samuel Davies, at Coed- gwilym, Clydach, for the purpose of allotments. During the discussion as to whether the Council should arrange their own haulage work, the Engineer said he fed failed to get a horse and cart in Velindre for the. past 12 menths to clear away the rubbish fro mthe road- side. Farmers would not send a horse and cart out at 10s. a dav. Mr. L. W. Francis said they ought to urge upon the farmers the necessi- ty of devoting the whole of their time to the cultivation of the land and not to haulage. The Rev. Evan Do vies said he re- membe.red the time when the farmers were very glad to receive 10s. a day for a horse and cart.—The matter was deferred to the next meeting.
