Mr. and Mrs. Howell desire to thank all who hove sent expressions of sympathy with them in their bereavement and for the beautiful wreaths received. We are pleased to 8tate that Winnie, who was also seriously ill, is now progress- ing favourably. The arrangements were ably carri ed "nt by Mr David Williams. Pte. R. E. Walker one of the wound- ed at Pontardawe, who is attached to the Kind's Liverpool Regt., received the Military Medal at Newport on Thu rsday. Pte. Horace Mills. K.O., son of Mr A. W. Milta, painter and decorator, Railway-terrace, Alltwen, and Pte. (dris Lewis Graig-road who' is with the Welsh Caiards, have been home on furlough, both looking, very well. Sec.-Lieut. R. M. Lewis, B.S< of one of the artillery regiments, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis, Tynycae, has been home on leave. He has been on service in France, and was formerly science master at Irvin, in-Scotland. At Tabemaclc on Tuesday evening tho R?v. Peter Price, B.A.,B.D., de- livered a lecture, entitled "The King- dom of Heaven, under the auspices of the Fellowship of Reconciliation. There was a good attendance, and the address was of a pacifist nature. The Rev. H. Seiriol Williams presided, whilst the meeting is opened by the Rev. I Jew. J. Bowycr. and at the con- clusion the Rev. W. J. Rees read out a pamphlet on unci:! ting the objects of >.h;- J v. ? :1 of }.{?concjliAti?n. The annual meeting of the Grand Lodge of England of the R.A.O.B. took placo at Cardiff on Saturday, when Bro. J. C-rordiiier, R.O.Ii., Car- I diff, was installed as Grand Primo of England in the pre?cnop of a Inr?c gH thering ot dcJc?a?-s from all ov' t.h? country. Bro. J. W. Gaze, Not- tingham, was elected aa Deputy Grand Primo, and Bro. W. Hopkin, K.O.M., Pontardawe, was elected Grand Regis- trar of England. Bro. A. J. Captain and Mrs. Hugh Vivian (nee Miss Molly Gilbertson) have been pre- sented by the tradespeople at Pontar- dawe, with a beautiful silver tea ser-I vice, suitably engraved, on the occa- sion of their recent marriage. The annual meeting of the church people of the parish was held at St. Peter's schoolroom on Sunday evening when the Rev. Joel J. Davies, vicar, presided over a. very good attendance. The accounts for all the churches at- tached to the parochial church council were presented individually 1 Tid passed, and a statement of accounts by the parochial church council were sub- mitted and approved. Mr. Smith, of the Capital and Counties Rank ws re-elected treasurer, and 1- r G. Harries and Albert E. Edmunds appointed secretaries. The expenditure and receipts were over £1,000. 'rho ex- cellent address was highly appreciated. As will be seen from another column the performance of "Maritana" at the Public Hall on Thursday and Saturday last were a gigantic success. Rees, F.R.C.O., is to be highly congratulated on the fine singing and the playing of the orches- tra. At the request of an enormous number of disappointed ones, a re- peat performance will kike place on Saturday evening. We are glad to learn that Mr. Joseph PowelJ, Derwon-road, Alltwen, is now recovering from his recent ill- ness. So serious was his condition at one time that a rumour of his death spread through the neighbourhood, which aroused wide-spread regret. For this purpose we under- stand'that the Executive Officer, Mr Mortgan Davies, has been fortunate to enlist the help-of the members of the various local V. T.C.'s. In order that the cheme may be brought into work- ing order with the least possible delay, it behowes everyone entitled- to fill in an application form, to render every assistance possible to the men of the V.T.C. when they call with the forms. The information necessary is practic- ally the same as was required for the sugar tickets, so that there should be no delay whatever in filling the form. Let the public bear in mind that the sooner this preliminary work is com- pleted, the sooner the food tickets will be issued, and an end put to the present haphazard method of obtain- ing food supplies.

It is worthy of npte that Mr Brooroe has been conducting the ser- vi ces at the St. Janten Mission, in the absence of a curate, for about four months, and the success that is attend ing his efforts is high testimony to the I earnest and concientious zea.! which he puts into his labours.

G.C.G. AND CWMGORSE I Vte regret to announce the death of Mr Edgar Price, which took place on Friday. He was only 18 years of age. His remains were buried at Old Carmel Cementery on Monday. ABERCRAVE I RECEPTION CONCERT. I The Church Hall was filled to its utmost on Thursday night of last week, when Pio. Johnny Walters, S.W.B., who was wounded some months back at Y pres, and has now been discharged from the Army, was, cordially welcomed by the residents cf the diatrict. Griffitlis also spoke. Mr David Phillips, A.L.C.M.. accompanied on the piano. A very successful concert was brought to a. close by the singing of the National Anthem. FUNERAL. The remains of the late Mr THomas Walters, whose death took place at Brynglas on Monday evening last, were laid to rest at Tynycoed on Thursday af ternoon. The mourners presfRnt were: Messrs. Lewis Walters and Richard Watkins (i'H"()the-r and brother-in-law); Mr and Mrs. Ann Harrison (sister and brother in-law); Mr and Mrs. William Walters (brother and sister-in-law); Mrs. T. Watkins (niece); Mrs. G. Williams (niece): Mrs. T. Price (niece); Mr. J. Watkins (nephew). Wreaths were sent from: Family at Bryngla-s, Friend, W. Rees. The Rev. Lewis Jones, assisted by the Rev. L. Lloyd, officiated. SINGING REHEARSAL. I Tha second singing rehearsal was held at Bryn Seion on Sunday last with the Ooagregational Churches. Mr David Williams, Tanyrailt road, conducited, and augurs well for A good festival on Good Friday. ACCIDENT. Whilst following his employment at the Gwaunclawdd colliery on Tuesday. Mr Uriah Jones. Tanyrailt, sustained injuries to tho leg. He was conveyed home and was promptly attended by the medical attendant. He is pro- gressing favourably. Wo are also glad to learn that the two lads who were injured last week are doing well. Quarterly services were 1-iiiid at St. David's Church on Sunday, when the Htv. T. Henry, Swansea, preached throughout the day. There were good congregations at each service. Tho Rev. W. Llewelyn, Llangynidr, occupied the pulpits at Noddfa, and Nantvffin Baptist Churches last Sun- day morning and evening respectively.

NEATH At Neath Education Committee the attendance oiffcer reported a. big de- crease iuattendance during December. Councillor J. R. Joneo asked if there- were any cases of children unable to attend school through shortage of food. The attendance officer said ho thought the decrease was due to an outbreak of measles. No doubt also mar- mothers had been compelled te keep their children home whilst tli-ey went out to seek food. The Home Secretary regrets that on the facts be-fore him he can find no ground for advising inteference wit-h the sentence on Mr R. C. Wallhead at Neath, but he is prepared to con- sider the further representations on his behalf which are to be made.

SWANSEA STREET SCENE. Councillor John Lewis, at Swansea Watch Committee referred to a die- graceful scene which had been reported to him as having occurred in one of the principal streets in Swansea. Two young women who were drunk were taken away in a taxi by a negro against the wishes of the bystanders- The complaint was that no police were on the spot for a considerable time. The matter was referred for inquiry.
