SOUTH WALES COLLIERY I ENGINEMEN. A meeting of the South Wales and I Monmouthshire Association of Colliery Enginemen and Stokers was held at the Y.M.C.A.. Cardiff, on WTednes- day- Mr E. H. Faull, Ognxore Vale, presiding. Mr W. Hopkins, the general secretary, reported that at the half-yearly conference there were present 56 debates representing 7,383 member The conference had confirmed tho action of the Executive Council in appointing delegate to visit the Wes- tern Front, and the name of Mr E. H. Faull had been included in the list of delegaes. Mr W. J. Wathen, Blaenavon, was elected president for the year. Later the rel),"esenbati,ve, of the enginemen and stokers met the South Wales Coalowners, and placed before them several applications for an in- creased standard wages for enginemen in charge of important engines. This and severaj. other matters and dis- putes were relegated to representa- tn-esruppointod by beth sides. The question of an eight hours shift for men in tlie mechanical department was raised at a meeting of the Engine men's Executive Council held subse- quently, and it was felt that the whole matter should be placed before the National Enginemen's Federation with a view of bringing it, before the Coal Controller.
