GERMAN FOOD RIOTS. FIRE-HOSE AND POLICE WEAPONS TO DISPEL CROWD. In the whole of Germany (according to- the French Official Wireless) manifesta- tions have taken place against the in- creased cost of food-stuffa. At Ludwigshafen the cavalry charged the demonstrators and there here several wounded. Similar manifestations at Munich were also of a violent character. Business is very difficult, and there are numerous cases of bankruptcy. The great Luitpold brewery has just handed in its balance-sheet to the official receiver. A letter addressed to a prisoner at the- La Palisse camp describes the disorgan- isation at Chemmitz. The dearness of food stuffs and of butter in particular had had caused the population to insurge, and for eight consecutive days the rebels ran- sacked and pillaged the shops of the pro- visioning merchants, breaking the shop windows with stones and throwing butter and eggs in the street.
