LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, Allow me to sincerely thank you for again re- turning me as your representative. It will be my pleasure and duty as in the past to study the interests of the borough. Believe me to remain, Your obedient and grateful Servant, R. ARTHUR PRICHARD. C9M Denbighshire County Council Election, 1904. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE LOCAL GOV- ERNMENT DIVISION OF COLWYN BAY AND COLWYN. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I beg to tender you my sincere thanks for re- turning me at the head of the poll in this important election. And particularly do I desire to thank all those who voted on my behalf, and assisted to further my candidature. I greatly appreciate this re- newal of your confidence, after my 3 years' absence from public life, and can assure you of my earnest intention to do all in my power to justify your choice. Now that the battle is over, I shall try to serve the best interests of the electorate without distinction of party or sect. Both in its local and its national aspects, the election was one of special importance, and I feel proud that by an overwhelming majority this con- stituency has declared its faith in the Progressive policy and all that it stands for. One feature of the contest that has pleased me greatly is the intense in- terest shown by the young men of the district. The future of our town and our country is safe so long as our young men rise to their civic responsibilites. And in conclusion I should like to mark my appre- ciation of the kindly spiris displayed by my two opponents in this battle, Agiin thanking you most sincerely, I beg to remain, Ladies and Gentlemen, Obediently Yours, THOMAS PARRY. The Flowing Tide. THE County Council elections are over, and the Moderates are chewing the cud of defeat. For the Progressives have, to use a metaphor, swept the boards." From North to South and from East to West has the flowing tide carried, in the vast majority of cases, the opponents of the Education Act to victory. It was antici- pated that the fight would be a stiff one, and expectations were fulfilled to tli2 letter. As usual, surprises have not been wanting. Church candidates have been defeated when hopes of success were high; and in other places the Progressives have been ruthlessly driven back. At Conway this was strongly apparent. On the eve, Mr Lloyd George supported Mr Hugh Hughes, but in spite of the inspiriting utterances of the Pro- gressive champion, Alderman Hughes failed to unseat his popular opponent. At St. Asaph Col. Howard, the Conservative candidate for Flintshire, kept his seat despite the great efforts of Dr. Henry Lloyd, a popular medi- cal man. We congratulate Mr R. Llewelyn Jones, who scored heavily over his opponent in the South Ward of Rhyl. It would have been a distinct loss to Flintshire had Mr Jones been unseated. In the West Ward of the same town we have to regret the defeat inflicted upon Mr F. J. Gamlin, the loss of whose seat is a Progressive gain. Mr Gamlin, like Mr Llewelyn Jones, was a man of ripe public experience, and his services may probably be rewarded by his opponents with an aldermanic seat. Mr Lloyd George is generally congratulated upon the result of his policy.
