SMOKING CHIMNEY NUISANCE.—A "Resident" writes complaining of the inltol-erable nuisance caused by chimney firing in Old Col- wyn, which, -he says, is al-mo-st of daily occur- rence, and is a great cause of annoyance, as it brings clouds of smoke and soot through open, windows, etc. (The police have the matiter in their own hands, and if a few siumim-onses were distributed jud'csious-ly -amongst the offenders it wbuld probably have a detelrrent effe,dt.-ED.). Newmarket. PARISH COUNCILLORS.—A parish, meeting was held at Newmarket on Monday evening, at the schools, for the purpose of electing parish -councillors. Mr J. Jones (The Schools) pre- sided1, and the following were appointed: coun- cillors: M-assrs. Edward: Hugh Jones, Wrth-y- Ff-ynon Alun J-o-nes, Craigi Arthur Wm. Jones, 7, Fron Deg; Win. Thos. Parry, Ta". Newydd1; Wm. Roberts, T-andderweni Bach; Peter Ryles, High-street; and Edward Wynne Bryn Terfyn. Mr J. Roberts wa's elected clerk. At the -close of the- proceedings, a vote of thanks was passed to Mr Jones for presiding. Mr W. P. Jones, Gop, has been nominated1 as rural district councillor for the Newmarket division.

BIIBLE SUNDAY.—The hundredth anniver- sary of the British and Foreign Bible Society wast celebrated in all th,e, here las-t Sun- day. In each references were rii-ade- to the extraordinary devlopment of the Society, and to the great a,n-d excellen-t work it has performed in the propagation of the- Christian Gospel. ORGAN RECITAL.—A highly successful organ recital was given at the English. Presby- terian, Church on Monday evening. Mr R. W. Stricklande, of Southampton, was the organist, -and: .the several selections, performed were capi- tally imt-erpireted. Mr Clarke and Mr Will Roberts (Bangor) -rendered' vocal selections at intervals with, customary success. The chair was occupied by Dr. J. R. Williams, J.P., and there, was: a satisfactory attendance. THE FORTHCOMING ELECTION. It would appear that, after aill, a -co-nrest will take place1 in -at least one' ward, in connection with the forthcoming Urban District Council election. The names' of two prominent tradesmen 'are mentioned! a:s.opponents. to Messrs Cov-eirley and R. D. Jones, the present, representatives for the Pan-tyrafon, Ward. After refraining from a fight over, t'he County Council nomination, to ,expect the electorate to- exerc-ise further Testraint might possihly be "too tall an order."
