THE TRAMP AND THE OONSTABLE.-A tramp, who gave the name of Jam Hvlsop, approached a police constable, who was in plain clothes in Mostyn-strect on Wednesday, and begged alms of ham. She described what she told Mr Files "as a. pack of falsehoods." The magistrates ordered defendant to be bound over under the First Offenders' Act, and paid her railway fare to her home. MAGISTERIAL ALLEGIANCE. — There were only two cases before the local justices at Monday's sessions. As this was the first regular court sitting since the accession of King George their worships took the oath of allegiance to His Majesty, "his heirs and successors," and it was noticed that at least one of them overlooked the formality of keep- ing the "Book" in his hand while he made the oath. The justices present were: Mr Kneeshaw (chairman), Dr. Dalton. Mr Ephraim Wood, Mr Robert Roberts. Mr J. W. Ravncs, Mr Jelf Petit, and Mr J. Adey Wells. The clerical duties were carried out by the Deputy Clerk (Mr James Amphlett), in the absence of Mr James Porter, who is holiday- making in Lland-rindod Wells. RINK PROPERLY CONDUCTED. — On the application of Mr J. J. Marks the licence of the Hippodrome Skating Rink was extended by the local justices on Monday from 10.30 P.M. till 11 p.m. each week day, the order to remain in force till Wednesday, Septmeber 21st. Deputy Chief Constable Rees explained .that the order was in force last year every other week. but as the rink had been properly conducted the police had no objection to the extension now sought. z, HIS THIRTY-FIRST APPEARANCE. — William Jones, labourer, of Alexandra-road, was fined Is and costs by the magistrates on Monday for being drunk and disorderly in Augusta-street, on the 10th ult. Deputy Chief Constable Rees said the defendants had appeared thirty times previously, but his last offence took place in August, of last year, while for two years before that he had given no trouble. The Bench explained that they imposed a small fine by way of encouragement to the defendant to revert to his hands of two yea.rs ago. Here, about five hours were al- lowed on shore, and arrangements had been generously made by the firm for the free ad- mission of the excursionists to the Llan- dudno Pier. and the attractions thereon, in- cluding concerts, biograph displays, and pier- rots' entertainments. At half-past three o'clock, the company proceeded to Men *i Bridge, where an hour and a half were ■al- lowed on shore, the steamer leaving Llan- | dudno on the homeward journey at half-past seven o'clock. The arrangements were in every way excellent, and Mr W. H. Dodd, the managing director of the Liverpool and North Wales Steamship Company, received a spco al tribute of thanks for the manner in which he had personally supervised the trip, and secured the comfort of everyone on hoard the steamer. SALE OF WORK AT LANSDOWNE HOUSE. A successful sale of work in aid of the movement for the erection of a new Church on the West Shore, was held at Eansdowiu House School, on Saturday afternoon. Tho event had been well organised by the Misses Raw and Bennet, assisted by their capable staff, and most of the articles offered for sale were the work of past and present pupils of the sc.Liool. The sale was formally opened bv Mrs iBroome, of Erylfryn, and the Rector ■ (the Rev. Llewelyn R. Hughes, M.A.) and the Dean of Kildare took part in the proceed- ings. The stalls were in charge of the following ladies:—Needlework, Miss Church; paintiug. Miss Horton; woodwork, Miss Anthony, flowers, Miss Gwen Marsh; sweetmeats, Miss Phillips; miscellaneous, Miss Irene Grej- ville; dolls, Miss Marjorie Basford; and re- freshments, Miss Brisboume. Among the numerous articles to be found on the stalls were some exquisite sTTecimens. .Lh-e 'nting stall had two decided novc-It'es _paa ?,n Pwtaii?ell6 work and Fmn-ch paintin4, which were greatly and readily purchased. The woodwork consisted of carved oak pin- els, picture and photo frames, etc. The sweetmeats were sold in hand-painted card- board boxes of various designs, all me ard painted by the Kindergarten Classed of the school. The dolls were artstically dressed y pupils of the school. At intervals during the afternoon, several entertainments were given. Tht Kin4e.rg.ar- ten concert, given by pupils whose ages ranged from four to seven years, proved very attractive. The school staff nroduced a Mttle play in one act, entitled, "Mrs Snob&on's At Home Day," and the boarders were equally successful in another play, entitled, "An un- expected entertainment." It is expected that about .£50 wall be realised towards the üh- ject in view.

A large number of the members of the local Agricultural Society are visiting Liverpool mis week to see the Royal Agricultural Show. SUNDAY SCHOOL TREAT. Yesterday (Wednesday) week, the members of the English Baptist Church Sunday School had their annual treat, wheal they visited1 Rhyfoel. Classes i have been arranged this year for horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry, pigeons, cage birds, but- ter, bread, cheese, bacon, ham, eggs, honey, dressed poultry, flowers, plants, vegetables, etc-, so that a very considerable step forward has been made in the programme as compared with last year. There will be also jumping and driving competitions, and a grand-stand will be provided. Mr R. Martin Smith, Carlton, Pen- iwys-road, Old Colwyn, is the hon. secretary, and. entry forms, etc., may be had from him on ap- plication.

PENMAENMAWR WATER SUPPLY.—The Council employees are busily engaged in carrying out tte wwk- of laying a new water main in Ysgubor Wen-road. MALE VOICE CHOIR. The local male voice choicr are to hold a sacred concert at the Pier Pavilion, Rhyl, on July 3rd, in preparation for which the erergetic leader, M.r H. Christ- mas Jonea, is conducting rehearsals. VISITORS. There are a. good number oi visitors staying in the district at present, and boating, bathing, and golfing are popularly prac- tised. Most of the boarding eetabLisiiimente hiive been already booked for the month of August. AGRICULTURAL. A large nuni'bor of people from Pen-maennxawr visited the Royal Agricultural Show at Liverpool. Councillor R. D. Jones, who v. ar, one of the party, has not missed the Royal Show for many years. THE GOLF CLUB. A meeting of the Golf Ciub Committee was held- on Monday even- ing, when Cokuel C. H. D;urbituhire presided over a good attendance. Four new members were admitted, a farther proof of the popularity of the new club. Colonel Darbishire was una- nimously elected pre ident of the club, in suc- cession to the late Mr Owen Owens, of Liver- pool and Pemnaenmawr, who acted in that capacity prior to his decease scere time ao. BOY SCOUTS.—There has been a slight decrease in the membership of the local corp0 of Boys' Scouts, which now m-ust iu 35. Great enthusiasm, however, prevails amongst the boys, audi under the command of Scout Master E. H. THE T.I.A.-A meeting 01 the committee of the Town Improvement Association was held on Monday eve ing, Mr W. Parry Jones being in the chair. It- wa.s decided to circulate 3000 of the .5000 booklets amongst the railway agents, in parcels of 150, with a view to judio- icus distribution. Six hundred are to be sent to Gapt. Jones for d tribution amongst, visitors to the Fairy Glen. The remainder are to be left for the use of the secretary. It wes re- ported that the Association were a little behind hand as regards fu.'ds. and that, owing io their having contributed £29 to the funds of the North Wale, Advertising Board, they had not been able to spend as much money as usual on advertising. ASSAULT. — On Monday evening a small sensation was caused by the appearanoe of P C. Hughes, who wzj-, -a,-icoi-n-paniol by two tramps, one of who-n was handcuffed, arid the other apparently with his arm injured. The officer conveyed them in a cab to Con-way, and at a special police court he d there on Tuesday morning, before Dr. R. Arthur Prichard and the Mayer (Mr John Wiliiams), one of the men, James Leach,, of Leeds, was charged with being drunk and d'gorderly, and also w th rr- saulting the other traimp, Arthur Warner. Warner said he a- kod them not to serve the do- fendant with dri>nk at a public-house at Llan- fairfechan, as he had had sufficient.
