eolwyn Bay Hospital Administration.. The report presented to the subscribers and supporters of the Coiwyn Bay and District Cottage Has pita J, yesterday, was not alto- gether satisfactory. It was stated that the income for the year had decreased from .£508 to £ 363, a matter which a lese oouxageous Board of Management would have viewed with grave concern. However, far from be- wailing circumstances over which tthey had no con.trol, the Board are pushing forward briskly a schemer for making more efficient the accommodation at their disposal to prose- cuto their noble work. Fortuntoly, the Board have at their head, in Mr Walter Whitehead, a practical and enthusiastic hos- pdtaj administrator, upon whose guidance they very properly rely with complete con- fidence. One of the most interesting chapters in the varied life of the distinguished sur- geon relates to his establishment of a hospital at Mansfield, Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire, in 1866. Some idea of the character of the district for which he provided the hospital —an institution which to-day possesses 43 bed- and a staff of eight medical men-may be obtained from the fact that the Poor Law Union, of which he was at that tame the medical officer, could only afford to pay him a salary of thirty guineas per annum, pro- viding all medicines and surgical appliances at his own expense! The difficulties at Coiwyn Bay are a mere bagatelle to those Mr Whitehead surmounted almost single- handed at Mansfield Woodhouse, and there need be no fear for the local hospital, while he is in any way connected with it, but in justice to themselves the residents of Colwyn Bay and district must see to it that they shirk none of their obvious obligations in Helping pecuniarily and otherwise this splen- did institution. That tho hospital warrante generous support iq manifest from the warm tribute which Mr Whitehead paid to its administration, no less than from the amount of valuable work it is accomplishing year by year. °
