Upwards of forty Gen- tlemen followed, mounted on spirited horses- Oifthis day a most sumptoous banquet was pre- pared at the Bull's Head Inn, each gentleman introducing a lady. The appearance, when seat- ed at table, defies description—it was splendid in the extreme. On the evenings of Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, there were grand balls given ir. the Town Hall. TIIE ANGLESEY HOUNDS ''MEET Oo-Friday, the 14tti inst. at Llangefni. The Lord Chancellor ha* lately been pleased t6 appoint johu Hughes, Esq. of Bangor, AI forney at Law, to be a Mas:erl<¥I'ard'na'fin the High Court of Chancery. i Agriculture seems to he gradually recovering from its Extreme depression. Cheese is now selling particularly well. Joshua Hudson and Ward fight; on Tuesday next. It is a match of more interest than has occurred since that t)eiweett'Spriitg and Neale.- The odds are Ii ve to four on Ward. Weight is on the side of Hudson, who, however, is not a good trainer and is too heavy. Not the shadow of a hope now, remains of the safety of the Sloop Maria, Captuin Johi, of Llanelly, from whence the vessel sailed for Hayle, in the middle of September, and which has not since been heard of. Some fragments of a wreck having been seen near Londy Island, it Ie supposed she foundered near that place. We are gtad to have it in our power to state* ihat the committee for the erection of a uionu- ment to the memory of that benevolent indivi- dual, 'he late Mr. Horroclis, of Liverpool, have fixed upon a design furnished by Mr. Spence and 'hat iîl* artist has now the work in prof- greis: It is intended to place it in thnf excel- iient inst itn.t ion, the Bj.te Coat Hospital, io that town; an establishment to ihe support of which Mr; Horrocks, during his useful life, so largely contributed. 1 Weare had b?eii a waiter at the Globe Tavern, Fleet street, and was with an extensive iieu iff ILAwblezs at last Doucasler ruccs, MoviFicEsr BEQUEST.—It is worthy of lé eord in letters of fdd, that the Earl of Bridge- water has left by will six thousatid pet- annum for ever, the employ and iuiprovemeot of 1 lie poor j io the parish of Ashbridge, Herts. PAIUSH ALLOWANCE.—The Select Vestry of Preston have entered a resolution on their ini- nutes not to affordpitrish allowance to any per- son who is known to keep a dog or any other useless animal." The principle upon which this resolution is founded has been acted upon for some time, but has been evaded, in many cases, by paupers alleging that dogs found in their houses do not beloog to them. The Vestry, however, are deleflÓinedthal such plea shall not avail them in future, for the parish allowance will be withheld from those who harbour these animals, whether they belong to the pauper or not. We are glad 10 find frown the Vestry's Re- port, that the workhouse is to be made-what all such establishments ought to be-a refuse for the! aged and iiifiirii and a real liouseof industry for the abie bodied. They have it in contempla- tion, it seems, to introduce the hand corn mills, which have been so much recommended of la/e, as a, means of labour for those who become pau- pers from want of employ ment.—Blackburn Mail. The MOfiument which the Pupils of the late Rev. ETiezer Williams undertook to erect, at tiieir Own expense, ia meiHory of their truly ex- cellent Preceptor, is now set up in Lampeter Chufeh. On the cornice above the tablet is a handsome Oru; on the left side of which a lamp is placed oh four books,- with another hy their side, a very highly finished globe and a hook arc on the right of the urn. The table, cornice, books, urn, lamp, and globe, are of the very finest statuary marble, supported by a grounding of pure black mat bio, exquisitely polished. iAnglesey County Meetings
Anglesey County Meetings Holyhead, 7th Nov. 1823. SIft, 1. < IT having been intimated at the late Anglesey County Meeting, that the Yeo- manry present had assembled under cli- rect influence and not at their own expence, and tity, intended answer to that intimation having been abruptly prevented hy a Gen- tleman desiring me to answet* J'ui- myself and not for others. Now Sirt in justifica- tion of myself, and to shezo that 1 did not assume the liberty of answering for others it, "ibitt authority, I think it right to send you jor insertion in YOlwpaper, together witJi this letter, a copy of certain resolu- tions passed at a Meeting the Inhabitants off lie Parish of Holyhead, on the c29th day of October, having the signature of oup hundred and seventeen^ most respect- able persons. I assure you, Sir, I have no zvisihju appeár in public print, but can-" not' submit patiently lo the having it be- lieved that I was acting zoithoiit authority- or under uny undue injluence. I am, Sir, I am, Sir, Your obedient Servant, EDMUND ROBERTS. AT Meeting of the Inhabitants of the parish of Holyhead, duly convened and held 011 the 89th day of October, 1823, to take into consideration a notice in the Nceih If'ahs Ga-ette of an inten- tion to apply to Parliament.at the next Session for leave to britig in a Bill for continuing the terms, and altering ;uxl.enlarging ctie powers of certain Act? of PMliilmenr, passed tu the 5th, 15th, and 47th of the laie King, (or repairing atntw)<(eni)ts: the road leading from Pyrihaethy Ferry to Holyhead, in the county of Anglesey 5 and, also of a Couuty Meeting tp be held on the same stJhject- IT 1.6 RESOLVED—That Mr. Edmund Roberts be requested to attend the said Meeting, and make knowa the following resolutions— That we. the under signed, consider it would be1 a hardship on us and the rest of the Inhabit- ant# of the Connty pf Anglesey, to keep the Tolls (Iti the Old Line of Road within the said county another and a better Road running parallel there- witilo anci,no part thereof at a greater distance than a mile therefrom. And we do protest against an application being made to Parliament for such Bill, considering it would incur great and unnecessary expence and hardships on us and the Inhabitants of this County in general. And, we consider such Bill would not benefit any of his Majesty's subjects, except a few to- divtduato. who receive salaries, as Clerks, Trea- surers, Surveyors-, and Toll Gatherers. And we are of opinion that the Toils which would he collected, would he scarcely sufficient to pay the above salaries and the expence of obtaining an Act of Parliament, and that instead of being a ■relief to the Parishes through which the Road passes, would still be a greater burthen, by the Parishioners being obliged to pay the Tolls, and to keep the Road in repair by their statute duty.

We have tasted the whiskey lately imported into this country from Canada. It resembles the common malt whiskey from the Lowlands of Scotland, or rather, perhaps, the whiskey distill- ed in the country from sugar some years ago.— Scotch whiskey being thus found equally ood, it does seem extraordinary that importation from Canada is admissible; Indeed it has atways al)- peared to us-singular that E-nglishmeo should be compelled, in consequence of a prohibitory duty, to swallow fha pnrnicious trash termed British gin, while the sister kingdom furnishes a liquor at feast genuine and wholesome, as far as spirits of any kind niay be considered so. We are hap- py to understand Parliament is likely, to adopt in the ensuing Session, some measure to faciHate the introduction of Irish and Scotch whiskey into England, which cannot fail to be of wealth td the community. A little gentleman, who during the summer season, is employed as a waiter at ooe of the iuus iu Harrowgate, callect to regale himself at the Elephant and Castle, Knaresborough, on the evening of the fair, and while in his cups be- came exceedingly noisy and quarrelsome with the rest of the company, drinking off their glas- ra i ses stlns ceremonie, and it a remonstrance was made, a challenge to fight was the immediate consequence.
