LLANFYLLIN.
LLANFYLLIN. CHOIR OUTING.-On Friday last, by the kindness of Mr Lomax, of Bodfach, the members of the church choir had a most pleasant visit to the show at Welsh- pool. A start was made at nine o'clock, the journey being made in brakes. The party were accompanied by the Revs T. Jones and C. F. Roberts. Luncheon and tea wore provided by Mr Lomax in the show- yard. The return journey was accomplished by nine o'clock amidst many expressionsof appreciation of Mr Lomax's generosity. ACTION AGAINST THE CAMBRIAN RAILWAYS COMPANY.—At the Oswestry County Court Joha Greatorex, a proprietor of shows, sued the Cambrian Railways Company for X21 2s for damages sustained in Llanfyllin Railway Station by the destruction of certain show properties, tarpaulin, painting, &c„, used in representation and various other matters; and .£25 18s, loss of three fairs, namely Llanfyllin, Llanfair, and Welshpcol, which the destruction of the property by fire had prevented him attending. The trucks were consigned from Newtown to Llan- fyUin on the 30th March, and arrived at the latter place at a quarter-past nine at night, and were docked apparently all safe, but in a shore time after the one carriage belonging to plaintiff, which was placed on. a truck of the defendant company, was discovered to be on fir.), The claim altogether was for X47. The above facts were all deposed to by witnesses for the plaintiff.-ML- Corfield, who appeared for the com- pany, said that they were sued as bailees, and now it was altered to carriers as wlJ. He complained that they were sued in two c tpaciti s at a moment's notice, as the cases required different, defences. -His Honour amend' d the c:aim.—Mr Co; fi jld contended that they had shown no negligence, and as socn as the truck was docked it was at the risk of the consignee, as they always took away their shows. He called JJHph Lloyd, the engine driver, and Edwin Jones, the stationmaster, to show that they did all that they could to put out the fire by throwing water upon it.- Mr Wright, of Leicester, who appeared for plaintiff, briefly addressed the jury, and was followed by hia Honour, who, in oirecting the jury, considered that the company bad not contracted themselves out of their liability until the trucks and carriages of the plaintiff had been removed from their premises in & similar state to that in which they received them.— The jury retired, and on their return gave the pl:tintiff £ 1S damages and X5 compensation, with the usual costs.
