ELECTION ADDRESSES. ELECTION OF GUARDIANS. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE BOROUGH OF OSWESTRY. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,— I beg to offer mvself as a Candidate for the Board of Guardians, and solicit your votes and interest. If elected I should endeavour to make brighter the lives of those who are compelled to go to our Union. I should also advocate partial out- door relief, and try to keep down expenses con- sistent with the requirements of management. I have the honour to be Your obedient Servant, THOS. EDWARDS. LJys Farm, Oswestry, December 3rd, 1894. ELECTION OF GUARDIANS. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE BOROUGH OF OSWESTRY. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,- I beg to offer myself as a candidate for the Board of Guardians. Having been your representa- tive as a Director of the Oswestry Incorporation for nearly four years, I claim to have some know- ledge of the work required to be done. I am an advocate of economy, with efficiency, but I strongly deprecate making the Workhouse a sort of a haven where everybody would like to go, yet I think it is the duty of every Guardian to brighten up the homes of the unfortunate people who have to go there, so that they may pass their time in a cheerful manner, as the life of a pauper in a Workhouse is a pitiable existence. I shall, if elected, gladly support any scheme for the better classification of the inmates of our Workhouses. The Guardians elected under the new District Councils Act will find in the Oswestry Union every- thing in good working order, with an excellent staff of disciplined officers in and out of the House. If you do me the honour of re-electing me on Board, i will endeavour to the bt»st -e £ 'U1oY1 ability to keep up the high position that the Oswestry Union has attained. I have the honour to be Your obedient Servant, THOMAS WHITFIELD. Willow House, December 3rd, 1894. PARISH COUNCIL ELECTION ELECTORS OF BERRIEW, We, the undersigned, arc of opinion that it will be for the good of the parish that it should be spared the expense and trouble of a contested election in this the first year of the Parish Council. Prior to the Parish meeting we used our utmost efforts to avoid a Poll, but unfortunately failed.
