CATHEDRAL. CHESTER. The hours of Divine Service in this Cathedral are as follows: On week days: Morning Prayer said in the Lady Chapel at 8 o'clock • Full Ctithedral Musical Service at 10 a.m.; Full Cathedral Evening Service at 4 o'clock. Holy Com- munion at 8 a.m. on all Saints' days and other festivals, and a Short Serrtfcii Dreaclied at the evening service on these days. On Fridays the musical service is unaccompanied. Sundays Celebration of the Holy Communion at 8 a.m., excepting on the first Sunday in the month, when it takes place after the 11 o'clock service Full Cathedral Morning Service at 11 o'clock; Full Cathedral Afternoon Service at 4 O'clock, but no sermon; Special Evening Service in the Nave and South Transept at 6.30. This is a purely Parochial Choral Service, sustained by a Voluntary Choir of 120 voices under the leadership of Mr Cuzner.

With a view to the further suppression of a doubtful labour traffic, which has been exciting the suspicion of her Majesty's consuls and the commanders of our ships of war on the West Coast of Africa, treaties have recently been entered into between the British Government and some of the chiefs of the Congo people.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that application is intended to be made to Parliament in the ensuing Session for an Act for all or some of the following purposes (that is to say) :— To enable the Great Western Railway Company (hereinafter called "the Company") to make and maintain the railways and works hereinafter mentioned, or some of them. or some part or parts thereof, together with all necessary stations, sidings, approaches, roads, works, and conveniences connected therewith (that is to say):— 1. A Railway (No. 1.) commencing in the parish of Ealing by a junction with the railway of the Company, about 11 chains westward of the bridge which crosses that railway at the Castle Hill Station, and terminating in the parish of Isleworth by a junction with the Com- pany's railway to Brentford (formerly called the Great Western and Brentford Railway) about 18 chains south- ward of the post on that railway indicating two miles from Southall, which proposed railway will pass from, through, or into the several parishes, townships, extra parochial and other places following, or some of them, (that is to say): Ealing, Castle Hill, Hanwell, precinct of Norwood, in the parish of Hayes and Isleworth, all in the county of Middlesex and it is intended to take for the purposes of the proposed Railway about a quarter of an acre of the Common, or commonable land called Drayton Green, ia the said parish of Ealing, in the county of Middlesex. 2. A Railway (No. 2), to be wholly situate in the parish of Tiverton, in the county of Devon, commencing by a juncion with the existing Tiverton branch of the Great Western Railway at or near a point opposite the eastern end of the Slaughter House on the eastern side of the Tiverton Station of the' Company in Tiverton, and terminating by a junction with the authorised line of the Tiverton and North Devon Railway at a point marked 2 miles 1 furlong on the plans for that railway deposited with the Clerk of the Peace for the county of Devon in November, 1874, and which point is situate about 26 chains northward of the public carriage road which passes through Bolham. To enable the Company to purchase by agreement, or compulsion, lands, houses, and buildings, for the purposes of the railways, roads, and works, to be authorised by the intended Act; also to purchase by agreement, or compulsion, for any of the purposes of the intended Act, and for the general purposes of their undertaking and works connected therewith, and for providing increased accommodation the lands, houses, and buildings follow- ing (that is to say): Certain lands, houses, and buildings on the northern side of the Compaay's Railway, and adjoining thereto in the parish of Paddington, in the county of Middlesex, and lying near to the westerly ends of Waverley Road and Hampden street. Certain lands, houses and buildings on the northern side of the Company's Railway, and adjoining thereto in the said parish of Paddington, and in the parish of Kensington, otherwise Saint Mary Abbotts, Kensington, in the county of Middlesex, end lying between the Company's Railway and Southam street, Kensal Green. Certain lands, houses and buildings on the southern side of the Company's Railway, and adjoining thereto in the parishes of Kensington, otherwise baint Mary Abbotts, Kensington, and Hammersmith, in the county of Middlesex, lying between Ladbrook Grove Road and the West London Railway, near to the North Pole Junction. Certain lands, houses and buildings on both sides of the Company's Railway, and adjoining thereto in the precinct of Norwood, in the parish of Hayes, and also in the parish of Hayes, in tbe county of Middlesex, and lying between the Paddington Branch of the Grand Junction Canal and the main hne of that canal. Certain lands, houses and buildings on the northern side of the Company's Railway, and adjoining thereto in the parishes of West Drayton and Hillingdon, in the county of Middlesex, and lying between the Grand Junction Canal and the road from West Drayton to Uxbiidge. Certain lands, houses and buildings on the eastern side of the Company's Branch Railway to Uxbridge, and adjoining thereto in the said parish of Hillingdon, in the county of Middlesex, and near to the junction of that branch with the main line of the Great Western Rail- way. Certain lands, houses and buildings on both sides of the Company's Railway, and adjoining thereto in the parishes of White Waltham and Shottesbrook, in the county of Berk, and extending from near the post on the said Railway indicating 26 miles from London, to near the post thereon indicating 28 miles from London. Certain lands, houses and buildings on both sides of the Company's Railway, and adjoining thereto in the parish of Waltham St. Lawrence, in the county ot Berks, and extending from near the post on the said Railway, indicating 28 miles from London, to near the post there- on indicating 29 miles from London. Certain lands, houses and buildings in the parish of Bedminster, in the city and county of Bristol, adjoining and near to the termination of the Bristol Harbour Railway at the Floating Harbour, Bristol. Certain lands, houses and buildings on the western side of the Company's Railway leading from Kiddermin- ster to the Severn Valley Railway, and adjoining thereto in the parish of Kidderminster, ia the county of Worcester, and lying near to the junction of that railway, with the Company's Main Line of Railway from Worcester to Kidderminster. Certain lands, houses, and buildings on the Western side of the Company's Railway, and adjoining thereto in the parish of Old Swinford, in the County of Worcester, and lying near to the road which passes under that railway about 22 chains southward of the booking office at the Stourbridge station also. Certain lands, houses, and buildings on the southern side of the Company's authorised branch railway to Stourbridge and adjoining thereto in the parish of Old Swinford in the County of Worcester, and lying between the commencement of that railway near the Stourbridge Station on the main line of railway, and the point indicating three furloBgs on the plans deposited in respect of the said branch railway with the Clerk of the Peace for the County of Worcester, in November, 1873, and also certain other lands, houses and buildings numbered on the plans above referred to 31 and 224 to 247 inclusive, in the said pariah and county. Certain lands, houses, and buildings on both sides of the Company's railway, leading from Worcester to Dudley and adjoining the new station at Netherton, in the parish of Dudley, in the County of Worcester. Certain lands, houses, and buildings on the North Eastern side of and adjoining the Company's railway, leading from Worcester to Dudley, in the parish of Old Swinford, in the County of Stafford, and lying between the junction of the branch railway with the said main line of railway (which branch leads by an incline to Stourbridge) and the road at Amblecote Hall, leading from the Delph to Stourbridge. Certain lands, houses, and buildings in the Parish of Mynyddyslwyn in the County of Monmouth, and lying on the southern side of the Company's railway, and partly over the tunnel on Hall's Tramway, called the Pennar Tunnel and partly adjoining the said tunnel on both sides thereof. To authorise the Company to substitute the new road in the parish of Old Swinford in the County of Worcester constructed by them over their Branch Railway at Stourbridge, authorised by the Great Western Railway Act, 1874, for so much of a certain highway or road situate in the said Parish and County, as lies between the boundaries of the Company's property, and is numbered 58 in the said parish and county, on the plans of the railway authorised by the said Act of 1874, and which plans were deposited with the Clerk of the Peace for the County of Worcester on or before the 30th day of November, 1873, and to stop up and discontinue so much of the said highway or road numbered 58 as aforesaid, as lies between the boundaries of the Company's pro- perty. To enable the Company, the Cornwall Railway Com- pany, and the Cornwall Minerals Railway Company, or any one or more of them, with the consent of the Com- pany, to make and maintain the Railway and works hereinafter mentioned, or some of them, or some part or parts theof, together with all necessary stations, sidings, approaches, roads, works, and conveniences connected therewith, that is to say :— A railway commencing in the Parish of Saint Blazey by a Junction with the Cornwall Minerals Railway, about eighty yards from the southern end of Cornwall Minerals Railway Company's book- ing office, at their station at Par, and terminating in the parish of Ty wardreath, at the southern end of the Cornwall Railway Company's goods shed, at that Company's station at Par, which proposed Railway will pass from, through, or into the several parishes, townships, extra-parochial, and other places following, or some of them, (that is to say) Saint Blazey, Par, and Tywardreath, all in the County of Cornwall. To enable the Company and the Cornwall Railway Company, jointly, or either of them, with the consent of the other, to acquire by compulsion or agreement, and to hold for purposes connected with the Cornwall Railway, the lands, houses and buildings following, or some of them, that is to say :— Certain lands, houses and buildings on the northern side of the Cornwall Railway and adjoining thereto, in the parish of Saint Stephen-by-Saltash, in the county of Cornwall, lying between the road pasting over the Rail- way at Saltash Station and the road that passes under the Railway about 160 yards west of the before-men- tioned road. Certain lands, houses and buildings on the northern side of the Cornwall Railway, and adjoining thereto, in the parish of Liskeard, in the county of Cornwall, and extending from about eighty yards on the eastern side of the post on that Railway indicating 25i miles from London to the post on the said Railway indicating 2G5! miles from London. To empower the Company, the Cornwall Railway Company, and the Cornwall Minerals Railway Company, or any two of them, to make and carry into effect agree- ments with respect to any of the matters aferesaid in which they are jointly interested. To enable the Company and the Stratford-upon-Avon Railway Company jointly or either of them with the conseat of the other to acquire by compulsion or agree- ment, and to hold for purposes connected with the Stratford-upon-Avon Railway the lands, houses, and buildings following, or some of them (that is to say) :— Certain lands, houses, and buildings on the northern side of and adjoining the Stratford-upon-Avon Railway, in the parish of Old Stratford, in the county of Warwick, and lying near to the joint station at Stratford-upon- Avon. To empower the Company and the Stratford-upon- Avou Railway Company to make and carry into effect agreements with respect to any of the matters aforesaid in which they are jointly interested. To enable the company, and the South Devon Railway Company, or either of them, to widen on the western side thereof the existing bridge, which carries the railway of the Seuth Devon Railway Company over the public road in the parish of Tavistock in the County of Devon, leading from Tavistock to Whitchurch, at the northern end of the Tavistock Station. To enable the Company and the South Devon Railway Company, jointly or either of them, with the consent of the other, to acquire by compulsion or agreement and to hold for purposes, connected with the South Devon Railway and the West Cornwall Railway respectively, the lands, houses and buildings following or some of them (that is to say) For the purposes of the South Devon Railway, certain lands, houses and buildings on the western side of and adjoining the South Devon and Tavi- stock Railway, in the parish of Tavis.ock, in the county of Devon, and lying between the public road leading from Tavistock to Whitchurch, and the occupation bridge under the railway, 90 yards or thereabouts, north of the said road. For the purposes of the West Cornwall Railway, certain lands, houses and buildings on both sides of and adjoining the West Cornwall Railway in the parish of Gwinear, in the county of Cornwall, and lying between the road crossing the Railway on the level at the Gwinear Road Station and the level crossing 230 yards, or thereabouts, east of that road. Certain lands, houses, and buildings on the northern side of and adjoining the West Cornwall Railway, in the parish of Ludgvan, in the county of Cornwall, and extending in a westerly direction 300 yards, or thereabouts, from the western end of the loading bank at the Marazion Station. To empower the Company and the South Devon Railway Company to make and carry into effect agreements with respect to any of the matters aforesaid in which they are jointly interested. To enable the Company and the Llynvi and Ogmore Railway Company, jointly or either of them with the consent of the other, to acquire by com- pulsion or agreement, and to hold for purposes con- nected with the Llynvi and Ogmore Railway, tHe lands, houses, and buildings following or some of them (that is to say) Certain lands, houses and buildings on the east side of and adjoining the main line of the Llynvi and Ogmore Railway, in the parish off Llangonoyd, in the county of Glamorgan, on which a part of the Branch Railway to the Bettws Colliery is constructed and lying near to the bridge carrying that Branch Railway over the River L'ynvi, and being a distance of 15 chains or thereabouts measured in a northerly direction from the post indicat- ing 4 miles on the Lynvi and Ogmore Railway from Bridgend. Certain lands, houses and buildings, on the west side of and adjoining the main line of the Llynvi and Ogmore Railway, in the parish of Llangonoyd in the county of Glamorgan, extending from the Bridge carrying the Llynvi Tondu and Ogmore Company's Branch Railway over the River Llynvi to a point distant 15 chains or thereabouts measured along the said Branch Railway from the said Bridge. Certain lands, houses and buildings on each side of and on the line of the Llynvi and Ogmore Railway as con- structed in the parish of Llangeinor, in the county of Glamorgan, and lying between a point 13 chains or there- abouts (measured along the Railway) in a south-west direction from the post indicating 2 miles on that rail- way from Tondu and a point 33* chains or thereabouts (measured along the railway) in a north-east direction from the said post. Certain lands, houses and buildings in the parish of Llangeinor, in the county of Glamorgan, on the west side of the Ogmore Branch of the Llynvi and Ogmore Railway, forming part of the Station at Tynewydd. Certain lands, houses and buildings on the west side of and adjoining the Cwm Garw Branch of the Llynvi and Ogmore Railway, in the parish of Llangeinor, in the county of Glamorgan, lying between the Railway and the River Garw, and lying near to the Level Crossing of the public road leading from Velinarw to Braich-y- Cymmer. Certain lands, houses and buildings on each side of and on the line of the Ely Valley Extension of the Llynvi and Ogmore Railway in the parish of Llandyfodwg, in the county of Glamorgan, lying between the Terminus of the Railway and a point 9 chains or thereabouts measured in a southerly direction from the Terminus of the Railway. To empower the Company and the Llynvi and Ogmore Railway Company to make and carry into effect agreements with respect to any of the matters aforesaid in which they are jointly interested. To alter as respects the exercise of the powers of compulsory purchase for the purposes of the intended Act or some of them the provisions contained in Section I 92 of the Lands Clauses Consolidation Act, 1845, so as to relieve the Company from ail liability to take the whole of any house or other building or manufactory, if thev take any part thereof. To vary, repeal or extinguish all existing rights or privileges in any manner connected with the lands, houses and buildings proposed to be purchased or taken, or which would in any manner impede or interfere with the purposes of the intended Act, and to confer other rights and privileges. To authorise the alteration, diversion, widening, cross- ing or stopping up of all turnpike and other roads, bridges, footpaths, railways, tramways, acqueducts, canals, streams and rivers adjoining the aforesaid lands, houses and buildings, with which it may be necessary to interfere in the conversion and use of those lands, houses and buildings. To make provision for the repair of all or any of the new roads, streets, footpaths, highways or tramways to be constructed under the authority of the intended Act by the same persons and by the same means as other roads, streets, footpaths or highways in the parishes, township? or places within which the intended new roads, streets, footpaths, highways,or tramways respec- tively, will be situate, are for the time being legally repairable, or by such other persons and means as may be prescribed by the intended Act. To extend the time for the sale by the Company of all or any lands acquired or held by them, which are not, or eventually may not be required for the purposes of their undertaking, and to confer further powers on the Company in relation to the said lands to enable the Company to sell or dispose of the lands which have been acquired by them, or some part or parts thereof, for building or other purposes, or to grant building or other leases of the said lands, or any part or parts thereof, or to dispose of, lease or let the said lands, or any part or parts thereof, on ground rents, chief rents, or otherwise, and at such rent and upon such terms and conditions as the Company may think proper, and so far as necessary to alter, amend and extend the provisions of "The Lands Clauses Consolidation Act, 1845," with reference to the sale of superfluous lands. To extend the time limited by the Great Western Railway Act, 1876, for the construction and completion of the railways and works, or some part thereof, authorised to be constructed by the Great Western Rail- way (Swansea Canal) Act, 1872, and to confer further powers on the Company with reference thereto. To extend the time limited by the Bristol and North Somerset Railway Act, 1873, for the construction and completion of the Railway to Camerton, authorised by, that Act so far as not abandoned, and also to extend the time limited for the construction and completion of the Camerton Branch Deviation, authorised to be constructed by the said Great Western Railway Act, 1876, and to confer further powers on the Company with reference to such Railway, and Deviation Railway. To extend the time limited by the Great Western Railway Act, 1873, for the compulsory purchase ot lands, authorised to be purchased for the construction of an embankment or embankments in lieu of viaducts at Stourbridge, in the hamlet of Amblecote, Blakedown, in the parish of Hagley and Hoo Brook, in the foreign of Kidderminster, in the parish of Kidderminster, and to confer further powers on the Company with reference to the purchase of the said lands, and the construction of the said embankment or embankments. To revive the powers granted by the Great Western Railway Act, 1873, for the purchase of lands for so much of the Railway No. 2 authorised by that Act, as lies between the point marked on the plans cf the said railway, 5 furlongs from the commencement thereof and the termination of such railway and which plans were deposited with the Clerk of the Peace for the county cf Denbigh, in November, 1872, and also for the purchase of the lands required for Railway No. 3, authorised by the said Act, and to extend the time limited by the Great Western Railway Act, 1S76, for the construction and completion of the said iiailways Nos. 2 and- 3, authorised by the said Great Western Railway Act, 1873, and to confer further powers on the Company with re- ference to the purchase of lands for and the construction of the said railways. To provide for the vesting of or to vest the under- takings of the Company of Proprietors of the Gloucester and Worcester Horse Towing Path and of the Company of Proprietors of the River Severn Horse Towing Path Extension (hereinafter referred to as the Towing Path Companies) and the amalgamation thereof with the undertakings of the Company and the Severn Navigation Commissioners or either of them upon such terms and conditions as may be agreed upon (or as may be pro- vided for or prescribed by the intended Act), to empower the Company to substitute shares or stock of the Com- pany for shares or stock of the Towing Path Companies and to create and issue shares or stock for that purpose, either with or without a preference or priority in pay- ment of dividends, to empower the Severn Navigation Commissioners to apply their funds for the purposes of the said vesting, and, if necessary, to borrow money for that purpose, to dissolve or provide for the dissolution ef the Towing Path Companies, and to provide for the exercise aad fulfilment by the Company and the Severn Navigation Commissioners, or either of them, in their own names and under the hands of their directors, officers and servants, of all the rights, powers, privileges, and obligations of the Towing Path Companies, whether with reference to the acquisition of lands, the construc- tion and maintenance of works, the levying of tolls, rates, and charges, the granting or issuing of mortgages or bonds or otherwise, and to provide for the conversion into shares or stock of the Company, of the shares or stock in the capital of the Towing Path Companies, whether before or after the same shall have been paid up in full. To enable the Company and the Severn Navigation Commissioners to appoint a joint committee for the pur- pose of managing the undertakings of the Towing Path Companies, and the affairs thereof, and to delegate to such joint committee Buch powers as they may think requisite, and to make provisions in respect thereto. To empower the Company and the Severn Naviga'ion Commissioners, on the one hanci, and the Towing Path Companies respectively on the other hand, to make and enter into and carry into effect contracts or agreements with respect to all or any of the matters aforesaid, and to confirm any contracts or agreements which may have been, or may be entered into for the above purposes, or any or either of them. To provide for the vesting of or to vest the undertaking of the Alcester Railway Company, (hereinafter referred to as the Alcester Company), and the amalgamation thereof with the undertaking of the Company and with the undertaking of the Stratford-upon-Avon Railway Company (hereinafter called the Stratford Company), upon such terms and conditions as may be agreed upon, or as may be provided for or prescribed by the intended Act, to empower the Company and the Stratford Com- pany to substitute shares or stock of the Company, and of the Stratford Company, or either of them for shares or stock of the Alcester Company, and to create and issue shares or stock for that purpose, either with or without a preference or priority in payment of dividends, to dissolve or provide for the dissolution of the Alcester Company, and to provide for the exercise and fulfilment by the Company and the Stratford Company in their own names and under the hands of 'their Directors, officers and servants, of all the rights, powers, privileges, and obligations of the Alcester Company, whether with reference to the acquisition of lands, the construction and maintenance of works, the levying of tolls, rates and charges, the granting or issuing of mortgages or bonds or otherwise, and to provide for the conversion into shares or stock of the Company and of the Stratford Company, or either of them of the shares or stock in the capital of the Alcester Company, whether before or after the same shall have been paid up in full, To enable the Company and the Stratford Company to appoint a joint committee for tbe purpose of manag- ing the Alcester Railway, and the affairs thereof, and to delegate to such joint committee such powers as they I may think requisite, and to make provisions in respect thereto. To empower the Company and the Stratford Company on the one hand, and the Alcester Company oa ihe other hand, to make and enter into, and carry into effect con- tracts or agreements with respect to all or any of the matters aforesaid, n- to confirm any coirtracts or agree- ments which may have been or may be entered into for the above purposes or any or either of them. To authorise the Company to subscribe or contribute to the capital, and to tho debentu re debt of the Worcester, Bromyard, and Leominster Railway Company, of the Mitcheldean Road, and Forest of Dean Junction Railway Company, and of the Malmesbury Railway Company respectively, to appropriate such portion of their existing capital as may be necessary therefor, and to enter into and carry into effect agreements with the said Companies respectively with reference thereto, and to provide for the appointment by the Company of certain directors of the said Companies or either of them. To authorise the Company to subscribe or contribute to the capital and to the debenture debt oftfee Llynvi and Ogmore Railway Company, to appropriate such portion of their existing capital as may be necessary therefor, and to enter into and carry inweffect agree- ments with the said Company with reference thereto, and to provide for the appointment by the Company 01 certain directors of the said Company. To enable the Lllnvi and Ogmore Railway Company to apply to the acquisition of the lands, in the County of Glamorgan, hereinbefore described, and to the payment of certain liabilities on Revenue account, such portion of their corporate funds as they shall think expedient. To authorise the Company on the one band and the Witney Railway Company and the East Gloucestershire Railway Company respectively on the other hand, 10 1 enter into and carry into effect agreements as io the pay- ment of the interest upon the Debenture Debt of the Witney and East Gloucestershire Railway Companies respectively, and as to the appropriaticn of such portion of the funds of the Companies or either of them aa may be necessary for sach purpose.
