IT is a well-known and proven fact that the Lead Mines of Wtd.s are redundancy prol.tic m the yield of Ore, and whet. any of these Mines are secured by a Company working under the Limited Liability Acr, and directed and governed by men of sterling worth and experience, they are sure to reap great re- suits and pay enur nr>u« dividends to the fortunate shareholders, to wii—the celebrated Van Mine is re- markable tor regularity in the payment of dividends as well as for the heavv aggregate amount of the same. Since they began work the ore sold amounted to 25,565 tons of lead, and i,820 tons of blende, for which the company received the total of ^6371,466. The com- pany began work in Fedbruary, 1869, and these figures include the last sale made on the 12th of March last. From the proceeds of these sales the directors had divi ed, 1 up to the e» d of 1873. a sum of X167,250 in div.d :iids, or very nearly the capital of the cimpany three nines over. We have now the pleasing duty to call the attention of our readers to an adventure lately commenced in the county of Flint, and n..ar,he famous old town of uoly- well. The vendor of t:.è mines to the company is the well-known and highly-respected pastor of Brynlord, whose faith in the antic,j atfcd yield is so strong that he guarantees for two years 10 per cent. on the paid-un capital of the company, in addition to any dividends that may occur from the sale of lead or oiher ores. He asserts that the property is the very best in all the county, and this is vended by all his parishioners, als., by the men now employed on the setts, and Captain Davies (late of the Talargoch Mines), the manager, has unbounded confidence in the ultimate results. A sample sale of fire tons of ore took place a few days ago. thus proving that the mines are even now yielding their riches to the diligence cf the explorers. Surely, uch an opportunity for safe investment, with the anticipation of immense profits, is rarely offered to the general public. Below our readers will find the prospectus of the com- pany. P Rot; p CTUS. The formation of this Company has been undertaken for securing by purchase the Leasehold Interests, Machinery, and "Pl.nnt, now in or upon all those two well-known mining setts called the >outh Hollowav and the Clwt JVlilitia, now named the Duchess of West- minster," situate m the parish of Holywell. in the County of Flint; and for working them as one concern. The first-named sett consists of nearly 40 acres of land under Sir Pyers Mostyn, Bart., at a royalty of one-twelfth for silver leal ore, and 2s 6d per ton for calamine. The second or "Clwt Mili'ia" sett, adjoining the first named, is held under His Grace Ithe Duke of Westminster, at a royalty of 20s per ton, and contains upwards of 80 acres of land; the whole forming the most valuable silver lead ore mining sett in ths Prin pality. f Without entering into minutiae, it is a well-known and proven fact that the particular locality is acknowledged to be by the oldest inhabitants, and bv nvn~-pi"*>'uc who have frequently exnl"rj»J-,t»t,' and barytes, in the .Jo.& The Rev. David Jones, Rector of Brynford (who resides close to the property), in writing on the subject, says :— "GBNTLBMBM,—In all honesty I may inform you that the two mining setts, known here as the South H llowar and Clwt Militia, are unquestionably the very best piece of mineral land on 1he whole of this Holywell Moun- tain;' indeed, so much so, that one gentleman cleared upwards of £ 40.000 out of a portion of one single lole, viz., the Clwt Militia Lod,- at the shallow depth of only 60 yards; nor for the last 15 years could this Clwt Militia mining sett be obtained from its then proprietor (who had ceased working it) for love or money but he having departed this life on Christmas last, has pre- sented an opportunity for again working this most traly valuable estate." And again, writing on the 21st of March last, he sivs, There i, another important discovery at the South Hol- loway Mine. It is a solid nb of silver-lead ore, fully eight mches in width in the level which is being driven pouth of the shaft whilst in the level which is I eing diiren north of the shaft are large tumblers of solid And again writing about the "Clw Militia Sett, he says:— "There are several shafts on the property in an excel- lent stato of preservation Rt the boUomof ono of them, 80 yards deep, is an abundance of ban'tes, which sells readily in this district, at about two guineas per ton. The spar is said to be from 8 to 10 yards wide this of itself would pay far better than any one iron mine lItT- where about here, You can safely recommend this pro- perty to your clients as A 1, and all my parishioners will verify my assertions." The Captain of the Mines (Mr J jesse Davies), in his report of the 12tb November, states that, a new vein- before entirely unknown—has just been discovered, with. indications which are generally the forerunners of an im- mense body of lead. He reports further, on the 15th Nov., that the vein of solid ore is already several inches wide, and steadily increasing. A further letter received from the Rector on the 2nd December contains the following:— Captain Davies who is at my elbow, tells me that the roof of the 80 yards level is looking much better now than when Mr Edwards (one of the directors) saw it last Saturday fortnight, and that he himself this morn- ing broke over 2 cwt. of lead ore. One lump would weigh over 1 cwt. N.B.—This is a rib, and so far more likely to last. I feel sure this mine will prove more valuable than our most sanguine expectations."
