Otner articles quiet and unchanged. I/ONHOM, MONOAV.—The largest supplies laot week were foreign Oats and Barley, Wheat and other grain being moderate. Export", 170 qrs. Oats. English Wheat 3,881 qrs., foreign 13 373 qrs. The show of sample-) from the near counties this morning was very short, and though much of it was in poor condition, it went off more freely at faily the previous rates, fine being occa- sionally dearer. There was also a better feeling in foreign, especially in American and Russian sorts, which had beeu un- duly depressed. Country Flour 24,846 sacks; foreign 1160 sacks 6,882 barrels. The trade was steady, at the reduced rates of Monday for Norfolks and other country marks. In foreign sacks and barrels the demand was limited, xt the former ruses. Town qualities were unaltered. Maize 13,379 qr. While fine sorts maintained their value, inferior were rather cheaper. British t Barley 8,967 qrs., foreign 17,926 qrs. The best malting obtained former values, but all below it were a heavy sale, especially foreign grinding sorts. In Malt, the business w.s limited at previous quotations. English Oats 1,165 qrs., foreign 51,784 qrs. With the foreign imports rather less, and many Russian sorts in fTTinary withdrawn, the redaction of Friday was about reversed. Native Beans 1,169 qrs., foreign 1,097 qrs. Soft new were dull, hard and foreign unaltered. English Peas 776 qrs., foreign 4,295 qrs. Fine boilers ftept their values, but dung were rather easier.

BRIDGNORTH, SATURDAY.-Tbe attendance of farmers, dealers, and millers, was rather limited, owing to the constant fall of rain during the day. Business on the whole was beter than last week, particularly in wheat and I-ariey, and a fair trade done. METROPOLITAN, MONDAY.—The total imports of foreign stock into London last week amounted to 7,918 head. As usual, at the market immediately following the Great Day, the supplies of both Beasts and Sheep were limited, the wants of butchers having been met by the large arrivals of last week. The show of foreign stock comprised home very fair French and Dutch beasts; but the trade ruled very quiet, and prices had a decidedly downward tendency. From onr own grazing districts the arrivals were limited in number, but a good proportion consisted of fat stock of the usual Christmas character. Some prime Scots came to hand; but even the best beef met with little inquiry, and the quotations gave way 4d. per stone as compared with last week, the top price not being above 5s 6d. per 81b. From Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, and Northamptonshire we re- ceived about 850 shorthorns, &c.; from other parts of England, about 280 of various breeds; from Scotland, 121 Scots and cross- es and from Ireland, about 150 beasts. The transactions in Irish Butter are extremely limited, prices nominal. There was a good demand for the finest foreign. The Bacon market ruled quiet, and prices were the turn in favour of buyers. CARMARTHEN BUTTER, SATUBDAY.—In consequence of rough weather and torrents of rain the market was very tbin'y attended, and only a nominil supply of Butter at previous rates, from 120s. to 124s. for good average quality. A better demand for cheese, with a prospect of higher rates as we advance in the season. LONDON HOP, MONDAY.—Our market remains firm, with a better feeling, and although from tiie se ircity of hops on offer the transactions have not b en important, holders show more confidence in the future, and are not anxious to sell at present prices, new home-growths of every class being now almost ex- hausted. Imports from Europe have fallen off, and by all accounts are not likely to be resumed in any quantity, present values here offering no inducement to shippers. STORMS AND SHIPWRECKS AT HOME AND ABROAD. The thirtieth annual report of the Shipwrecked Fisher- men and Mariners' Royal Benevolent Society gives in a very condensed narrative a full statement of the steward- ship of its almoners. From the report itself we naturally turn to the history and -progress of the institution, which appears to have been established in 1839 for the purpose, among others, of "boarding, lodging, clothing, and for- con'; warding to their homes, or their nearest consuls, if foreigners, all wreckej seamen, soldiers, or other poor persons of all nations cast destitute upon the coasts." TTiat such an object was in every respect worthy the kindest consideration of the public needed little beyond a few authenticated details of shipwrecks to commend it to their notice. But the founders of this institution could never have anticipated such a fearful revelation as the hitherto unchronicled disasters at sea made known. What inference (for example) is to be drawn from the fact that the number of shipwrecks exceeds 5,000 per annum? That in the year 1868 no less than 6,648 shipwrecked mariners were relieved and forwarded to their respective homes. Among this number were the crews of vessel from America, Austria, Belgium, British American Colonies, Denmark, France, Greece, Holland, Italy, Nor. way, and Prussia. That relief has, during the same year, been given to 4,236 widows, orphans, and aged parents of shipwrecked husbands, fathers, and sons, thus completing a total relief to 10,884 persons in a single year. Moreover, as a crowning testimony to the value of this society, 182,312 fellow-creatnres have, in the depth of their dis- tress, experienced the heaven-sent benevolence of human agency in the cause of the fatherless and the widow. Now we are sure that an institution which has such ramifica- tions as a force of 865 honorary agents to dispense its charity, must stand in need of further help itself from all who have the heart and the means to give. For no other source of charity could a stronger appeal be made than for the Shipwrecked Mariners' Society, after having enu- merated what it has already done, what it is still doing, and what we have a just right to expect it will continue to do. Great objects, we know, are achieved by the co- operation of individual agencies, and no better illustration can be given than that which is summed up in the history of this society. Yet, as their Teport justly urges, The wants of the poor shipwrecked mariner are always urgent, and that this society not only represents the nation's care for its own seamen, but it is also the representative of its hospitality to the helpless stranger cast upon its ooast." What English family, we ask, will, after this, need a fur- ther appeal for co-operative assistance in fulfilling at the same time a national, an individual, and a religious obliga- tion ?-The Age We Live In, December 11, 1869.
