CRICKET,
CRICKET, LLANRWST 2nd XI. v. LLANRWST COUNTY SCHOOL. A CLOSE GAME. i While the first eleven was trying conclusions with the University men at Bang'or on Saturday the Second XI. entertained the County Sahool team at Gwydr Park, and but for the efforts of the Net-erati Trevor, of football fame, and W. Williams would have been bamr "knocked JUt" by the youngsters, who only lost the game by rime runs. Tfne scholars having won the toss, decided to bat, and' commenced proceedings with Harry Barnwell and W. A. Jones, J. O. Jones trundlmg from the pavilion end, and l. Williams from the other. When the score had reached 5, W. A. Jones was dismissed by J. 0. Jones with a ball that was practically unplayable. Oswald Owen filled the vacancy, and began to lash out at the deliveries. Stephen Hughes took the ball off M. Williams at 14- Barnwell, who was playing carefully, scoring' 7 out of his first over. Oswald Owen, however, after scoring 9, had his middle stump knocked off by J. O. Jones, and he retired at 23. Glynn Jones joined Barnwell, and immediately gave a catch to Williams at slips. He, however, failed to hold, but he was dismissed by J. O. Jones a moment later after scoring a oouple-3 for 27. Idwal Da vies, 4 he next batsman, and Ba.rnwell, however, altered the complexion, of tihe game, and scored freely, treating the triindler,3 with vigour. When the score reached 50, M. Williams resumed his posi- tion at the Castle end, while T. Thomas bowled from the pavilion end. The change proved satis- factory. Idwal Davies being' caught liy J. O. J ones off Thomas at 53. The retiring batsman s useful score of 199 included two 4's, three 2 s. Mr R H. Jones, one of the masters, next commenced with, a fine leg stroke for three all runs. At 65, however, Barnwell was clean bawled by Thomas for an invaluable innings of 28, which. included three 4's, and tive two's. W. A. Roberts joined Jones, J. O. Jones bowling re Williams at the Castle end Roberts was bowled at 66 by J. O. Jon3 without having added to the scoroe, and gave way to D. A. Jones, who, after scoring a single, was caught by W. Williams off J. O. Jones at 70. W. Jones also fell a victim to tihe same trundler at the same total. Ednyfed Roberts, after scoring a 3 all runs, was also clean bowled by J. O. Jones at 74. Ivor Price Williams, after scoring 5, was caught and bowled by Thomas, R. H. Jones be- ing not out for 10. The total was 81. J. O. Jones took 7 wickets for 30 runs. The trundler kept a good length and pace throughout- The score somewhat disheartened the "adults/' who commenced proceeding's with L. M. Hughes and T. Thomas, Glynne Jones tr"t;iKliing from the pavilion end, and Barnwell from the Castle end. Hughes, after a boundary stroke for 4, was cleaii bowled by Barnwell—one for 7; Mor- gans, the nexfs batsman, was a«o bowled by Barnwell's next delivery. R. D. Richards, who was next in, lost Thomas at 19, the "skipper" being bowled by G lynne Jones for 6. J. O. Jones, the next comer, was bowled by Glynne Jones at 27. W. Trevor Jones next joined Rich- ards, and the two "full-backs' somewhat altered the complexion of tine game, and stopped the rot. They ran the score to 35, when Richards, after contributing 8 runs, was clean bowled by Barnwell wirh a fine ball. W. A. Jones then went in for Barnwell and W. A. Roberts for .Glynne Jones- W. Williams, the next batsman, and Trevor then made light of the bowling, and witih extraordinary freedom ran the score to 78 or within an easy distance of victory. Trevor was Lhen bowled by Glynne Jones, who had re- sumed at the Castle end. After a splendid and under the circumstances an invaluable inning's of 25 runs which included two 4's, two 3's, and four 2's. Fletcher filled the vacancy, and -arn- well took, the ball at the pavilion end. Fletcher, with a boundary for 4, passed the youngsters'' total amid applause. W. Williams at 34. was, however, unfortunately run out, having scored a faultless 23, and, in conjunction with Trevor Jones, won tihe game for his side. His score included two 4's, two 3's, and two 2's. Maurice Williams, the next batsman, was immediately run out, while Stephen Hughes was snipped be- hind the wickets by R II. Jones off Glynne Jones. Bertie Pritabard, after a fine leg stroke for 4, was bowled by Idwal Davies. Fletcher being not out for 7, the score having reached a total of 90. Just now, when 1,110 price of petrol is being dis- cussed so energetically in view of the recent in. crease in prices by the distillers of spirit, ard the Budget duty of 3d per gallon, all economi- cally minded motorists will be glad to know of a car which is reniaxl-ably oheap to run, because of the very small amount of petrol which it uses. On the last day of the recent IriA reliabilitv trials, the quantity of fuel used by oadh oar, was officially measured. The 12 h-p. Humiber averaged no less than 36.8 miles to the gallon, and the 16 h.p. Humber averaged 30 miles. It will be remembered that the distance of the day's run was 180 miles, under ordinary touring con- ditions over, the give and take roads from Kil. larney to Dublin so that the wonderful economy of these Hurnbcr cars malt-3 them particularly suitable for that much discussed individual, lithe n-i an of moderate means,"
