PLAID LLAFUR YN MLALiNAU
PLAID LLAFUR YN MLALiNAU ANERCHIAD GAN Y PARCH SILYN ROBERTS. Nos Sadwrn, yn Ysgol y Mancd, cynhaliwyd cyfarfod cyhoeddus, o dan nawdd Plaid Anni- bynol Llalur. Daeth cvnuiiiad da yn nghyd, a chafodd y siaradwyr wrandawiad astud. LIyw- yddvvyd gan Mr T. R. Davies, Park Square. Dywedodd Mr Davies fod Plaid Uafur wedi dod yn allu nad ellid ei anvvybyddu. Cododd y blaid o angen y bobl am rywun i ddadleu eu hachos. Yr oedd y gair "gvveithiwr" yn golygu unrhyw un oedd yn cynyrchu, pa un bynag ai a'u llaw ai a'u meddvvl. Yr oà meddyiwyr y deyrnas yn cydvv&ithio i ddeffroi y werin i ofyn am eu hawliau. Dadleuid yn erbyn y mudiad, yn benaf oddiar ofn fod llafur yn myned i lywodraethu. Yr oedd syniadau y bvdd yn dod yn fwyfwy golcuedig ar y mater. Yr oedd yn bwysig' eu bod fel gweithwyr yn dilyn y meddyiwyr goreu. Dylid cael gwell cytlog am lafur, a byrhau oriau gweithio. Dylent hwy a'u plant gael iingenach ymborth nas oeddynt yn brescnol fel 'ig i fagu to o blant cryfion i'r oes nesaf (cvmeradwyaeth). Mr Hugh Ellis Hughes a ddywedodd y byddai sylwadau yn sylfaenedig ar lvfr Chiosa money. Ivhcddodd Mr Hughes ffigyrau o flaen J cyfarfod i ddangos y trueni oedd yn y wlad trwy y wasgfa bresenol. Yr toedd gwir wcrth teyrnas yn ei phobl, a chenedl gref oedd e' nerth. Yr oedd Sosialaeth yn cretlu mewn cymeryd eiddo y wlad a throi y budd oddiwrtho at lesoli y sawl sydd yn cynyrchu y nwyddau. Dylent gredu yn eu hurddas fel dynion. "Pe bai Rabbiniaid Ffesti- niog yn edrvch ar y ffigyrau a nododd, ni son- icnt- am "wild cat Sosialism." Y Parch R. Silyn Roberts, M.A., a ddywed- odd i awgrym gael ei wneud y byddai y noson hono yn ateb anerchiad Mr John Owen, Bo- wydd, ar "Sosialaeth. Dywedodd Mr Owen wrtho ef nad oedd yn gyfrifol am yr adroddiad ymddangosodd yn y wasj leol, a dywedodd yn bendant na bu iddo iefaru y pethau briodolid iddo. Er engraifft, yr oedd Mr Owen yn medd- wl na enwodd Mr Bernard Shaw o gwbl. Yr oedd yn dda ganddo ddeall nad Mr Owen ddy- wedodd y pethau, gan ei fod yn arferol a bod gyson ag ef ei hun. Gofynid 3,11 yr ysgrif h yw Sosialaeth, ac awgrymid nad oedd yr un dau Sosialydd yn cydweled ar y pwnc. Yr oedd hyny yn newydd'iddo cf, gan eu bod fel Sosialvvyr o!l yn cydweled ar y prif egwyddor- ion, er nad ar y manylion, ac vr oedd yr am- ryw iaeth barn yn proft eu bod yn blaid fyw. Dywedid fod Sosialaeth wedi ei gwneud yn Ger- mani; ond gwyddai pawb cyfarwydd a hanes y mudiad mai tad Sosialaeth Germani a Chymru ydoedd Robert Owen, Drefnewvdd. Ffilore"- oedd son fod Sosialaeth yn had yn Groeg a Rhufain gynt. Gwir fod yr egwyddorion y pryd hwnw, onct nid oedd y mudiad vn ei fTurf bre- senol yn bod hyd yn ddiweddar. Cyfeirid at anffyddiaeth Carl Mark; ond dylid cofio mai luddew ydoedd, ac mai oddiar v saue hono vr edrychai ar bethau. Yr oedd pamphled Dr. Clifford yn dywedyd fod "Sosialaeth o Dduw." Ymosodir llawer ar Blatchford am ei anffvdd- iaeth, ond dylid cofio mai ymosod y mae ef ar ofTeiriadaeth a chlengaeth. Nid oes air yn ei Britain for the British" yn groes i grefydd i i > Vad,fulr hefvd niai cyfundrefn faterol ydoedd Sosialaeth; ond dvlid cofio mai ffwleid- yddiaeth ydoedd. Yr oedd Cristionogaeth yn ateb gofynion ysbrvdol dvn, a Sosial- aeth yn ateb gofynion cymdeithasol a bydol. A1 ,/ynnT Wr,' etlffdd,u fyfoeth trwy ei rieni, ydoedd Mr Bernard Shaw. Y mae angen inaivr am sefydliadau newyddion yn ein plith. Yr oedd yn cynyg diolchgarwch i'r siar- adwyr. Y Parch P. Jones-Roberts a gefnogodd. Dod i gyfarfod arall yr oedd ef, ond gallai ddweyd ei fod mewn cydymdeimlad llawn a Phlaid Llafur, a chredai fod ei hangon. Er hyny, ofjiai fod tuedd ymranu yn eu plith yn yr aixlal. Yr oodd ef yn Sosialydd, ac yn falch o fod folly, ond Sosialydd Cristionogol ydoedd. Buasai dadl ar y pwnc yn fanteisiol. A oedd cenedlaetholi yn hanfodol i Sosialaeth? Credai nad oedd hyny yn ymarferol bosibl. Yr oodd Sosialaeth yn golygu bra wdgarwch a chydweithrediud. Dadleuodd dynion duwiol fel Maurice, Westcot. a Kingsley dros Sosialaeth oedd yn ffrwyth Cristionogaeth, a chredai ef na ddylid cefnogi yr un Sosialaeth oedd yn wrth-Gnstionogol fel eiddo rhai y dyddiau hyn. CONWAY RIVER BOARD OF CONSERVATORS.
CONWAY RIVER BOARD OF CONSERVATORS. THE SALMON FISHING SEASON. Mr John Blackwall, J.P., presided at a spec- ial ni-aciing- of the Board of Conservators of the Conway Fishery District yesterday at Llanrwst. The following members were also present: Mr O. Isgoed Jones, J.P., Col. Goe, Mr Rogers, Mr Conway, Messrs W. J. Williams, J.P., E. Mills, J.P., T. Griffith, J. A. Fielding, to- lather with the Clerk (Mr C. T. Allard). SALMON CLOSING SEASON- Mr O. Isgoed Jones moved that the close sea- son for all salmon fishing within the district (except with rod and line) commence on Sep- tember 1st and terminate on Arml 30th, and the close season for rods commence on Novem- ber 15th and terminate on April 30th. He con- tended that the Conway was a. late rivor, and that the shortening of the anting season had been the means of alienating manij sportsmen from the district. It was, tfierefore, tame for the Board to consider the advisability of ex- tending the season for rod and line, a fact which was amply borne out by the petitions read at the previous meeting from the different publio bodies and individual anglers. Colonel Gee seconded the proposal, which was unanimously adopted. Mr Fielding proposed that the present date for the closing of the salmon fishing season with nets in the Conway River be changed to Sep- tember 14th in accordance with the system in vogue up to 1905. He said that thc) alteration, which curtailed the season by 14 days, met with considerable opposition from the nettera, who experienced a heavy loss by the change, which not carry with it any corresponding reduction in the licence. The larger salmon ascended the river during September, but owing to the exist- ing system, the netters were debarred from tak- ing advantage of the presence of the fish. He further pointed out that the fishermen had to pay a licence of 5s per net, and also had to make a payment to the landowners for the right to fish, besides having to employ two men to man- age each net If the season was extended as sug- gested it would give the netters an opportunity to catch the large salmon which caused more harm than good to the spawning beds, and at the same time improve the industry, and mako it more profitable. The netter3 did not com- mence their work until the end of May or the beginning of June, as but very few salmon w'ent up the river at the opening of the season. The netters had since 1905 made several applications for an extension of tho season, but up to the present they had been futile. He hoped the members would now accede to the application. Mr Isgoed Jones There is undoubtedly a feel- ing against the netters in the district. I think we would have a better chanoe with the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries if we applied for an extension for seven instead of fourteen days. If Mr Fielding is preparr-d to concede this week I will second his motion. Mr Fielding expressed his willingness to do so. Mr Isgoed Jones then formally seconded the mo- tion. The Chairman said he was afraid he would have to rule the amendment out of order. The feeling against the netters alluded to by Mr Is- goed Jones was largely due to their refusal to submit a return of their catches to the Board, without which the Board's statistics were incom- plete. Mr Fielding said it was very difficult to secure a proper return. The last four years have been very bad. Col. Gee opposed the proposal, as the netters were doing very well during the season alloted to them, and the success they achieved was of but little benefit to the district as the fish were forwarded to the large towns. They had far better adhere to the old system. The Chairman thought it. would be better to defer the question to enable Mr Fielding to give 14 days' notice of his intention to mova the re- solution. Mr Isgoed Jones said they must take into con- sideration that the netters paid one-third of their revenue. After further discussion, the motion was ruled out of order. CHANGE OF SCALE. Col. Gee moved that the scale of licence duties in force for the district for salmon fishing be varied as fo',Iow.Fo), rod and line during the last month of the fishing season, 12s 6d for the month, 5s for a week, and 2s 6d for a day. Mr Isgoed Jones seconded, on condition that the change was enforced if the Board of Agri- culture and Fisheries sanctioned the extension of the season. This was acceded to by Col. Gee. The Chairman explained that the suggestion would not interfere with the scale of "charges for the other portion of the season, Mr W. J. Williams opposed, on the ground that the workmen would be deylt with hardlv under the new rule. He moved an amendment that the old charges be adhered to. Mr E. Mills seconded. The original motion was carried by five votes to three for the amendment. STOCKING THE RIVER. Mr Conway moved that a sub-committee be appointed to consider the question of re-stocking the river, and that they be empowered to ap proach the riparian owners with the view of se- curing their co-operative and financial assistance Co!. Ge-e seconded, and said he would be glad to subscribe £5 annually towards such a pur- pose The motion was adopted, and tho Chairman, Col. Gee, and Mi; Fielding were appointed as a subcommittee r

DarbLshire, of PcninaerimaV^ presiding at a concert held at the j Chapel, Befchesda, on Saturday night, comph" ment,ad the Nonconformists of Wales upon theit past achievements. Surely, ho said, their courago i ought not to fail them now, when the leaven Of> [ true religious liberty was permeating society frorti the highest to the lowest, and it was only a qu$ tion of time when perfect freedom—not licenoe-- would be the order of the day. With regard to the education question, he said that from the -■ character of the representatives they sent to the ■ County Council, from which the Education Corti* mittee wai ielected, there was no doubt that they i realised that. no time should be lost unnecessarily in completing their educational system. } members of the Education Committee fully real isod their serious responsibilities. While it t their duty to temper the rates to the shorn ra.tØ' payer as much as possible, they were determined to do thoir duty without fear or favour, honost ly and well. Referring to local he said ] How oan we enlist the sympathies of the vounff' er portion of the community—those who have l^ 1 school and have just began to maintain the I1" i school and have just began to maintain them" i selves, but do not yet understand that to be !l' j ful citizens their services are just as necessary 111 j cert.ain .dir,Hons na their fathers' services arc reo quired in others? LTnfortunately situated as j are, almost surrounded by nations, who, for thelf > own protection, consider it absolutely necessary ;• to maintain vast, well-equipped, and efficie" armies, we are always liable to invasion. TIO r very best way to avoid lipanic, and, indeed, ill" vasion itself, is to be preparoo in time of j to resist a descent of an armed force on olif i shores should any of our neighbours be fod; enough to attempt to make one. It is for tJIJ:' purpose that the volunteers have been converts into the territorial force, which is a part, itrA" I very important part of our democracy. Our yotinff | men can assist the country in this direction "J r offering their services, and by so doing they I only cultivate a healthy patriotism, but by | voting some of their leisure accjuire habits of se'* ? respect and self-restraint, and increase their i"* telligence in a manner that is of the greai*? l>enefifc to them hereafter. Very often -the' | leisure is not half so well employed. I ventui" to submit this view for your serious consider,)tion. because I feel strongly on this matter. I ha/* i personally derived so much good from the train* | ing I have undergone and the annual camps that* I have attended that I want to give the opportunity to others to enjoy the Bama benefits that I haYO enjoyed.
