A COLWYN BAY LADY'S LOSS IN LONDON. CHARGE AGAINST A HOTEL WAITER DISMISSED. At Marylebone Police Court, London, on Friday, be- fore Mr Plowden, a Langham Hotel waiter, named Johannee de Nys, aged 18, was charged with stealing and receiving a diamond eardrop, value JEoO, belong- ing to Mrs Gertrude Cn>sfield, a widow lady, residing at Bryn Eithin, Colwyn Bay. Mrs Crosfield said she was at pesent staying at the Langham Hotel. On Sunday evening she discovered that the eardrop was missing, and she did not see it again until she was taken by the police to identify it at the shop of Mr E. S. Attenborough, pawnbroker, 11 and 13, Charlotte-street, Fitzroy-square. Lionel Mills, an assistant at the shop, said the prisoner called there on Tuesday with the eardrop, and agreed to accept an advance of Cl upon it, say- ing it was given to him two years ago by his mother. He was detained and the police were sent for. Mr Plowden, having ascertained that that was all the evidence, said it was quite consistent with tJ, prisoner having found the eardrop and then DaWned it. That was a very wrong thing to have done, and was a very good reason for the hotel authorities dis- missing or reprimanding him, but it was not larceny, and he would therefore be discharged.
