COLWYN BAY. DEATH OF MRS T. JONES. The death occurred on Friday, after a short illness of Mrs Jones, wife of Mr Thomas Jones, Llys Cynwal, Abergcle-road. Deceased was a native of Ban- gor, but had lived for 40 years at Yspytty Ifan, the family removing to Colwyn Bay three years ago. The funeral took place on Monday after- noon at Bronynant Cemetery, being confined to relatives and to members of Bethlehem C.M. Church. This was the hrst death in the family, there being ten children,—four sons and six daughters, all of whom were present at their mother's funeral. The service was conducted bv the Revs. T. O. Jones, Yspytty, and T. M. Jone3, Colwyn Bay. Much sympathy prevails with Mr Jones and the family in their sad bereave- ment. DIED ON HIS HONEYMOON.—A painfully sudden death occurred on Thursday last., when George Wrm. Bradshaw, a visitor from Manches- ter, who was staying in Grove Park, passed away after an illness of only a week's duration. De- ceased caught a chill wThilst bathing, which was the cause of death. The deceased was here on his honeymoon, only having arrived a fortnight previously. The remains were conveyed by the b.38 p.m. train on Friday to Manchester. The undertakers were Messrs S. Bond and Sons, Col- wvn Bay. VOLUNTEERS LEAVE FOR CAMP.The members of the "G" Co., 5th T.B. Royal Welsh Fusiliers, left for camp at Conway, on Saturday. The men, to the number of about 50, were in charge of Captain T. H. Morgan. They marched down to the station, and then entrained.

An interesting- wedding was celebrated on Monday, last week, at the Ken- sington Congregational Chapel, Liverpool, the contracting parties being Mr John Evans, clerk to the Corwen Board of Guardians, who holds many other important public appointments in the district., of Bronceidiog, Llandrillo, and Miss Winnie Evans, formerly of Penrhiw. Llanuwch- llyn. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Owen Evans, D.D., Liscard, assisted by the Rev. Ivan T. Davies, Llandrillo, and the Rev. J. O. Williams ("Pedrog"). OTTER HUNT. A successful otter hunt took place between Carrog and Corwen, on Tues- day. Early in the day a large dog otter was captured near Corwen, and later in the day an- other was caught, weighing 201bs., while several others were marked. BOARD OF GUARDIANS.—The fortnightly meeting of the Guardians was held on Friday, Mr W. P. Williams presiding. The Guardians accepted the resignation of Mr William Roberts, of Cerrigydruidion, and a vote of sympathy was passed with Mrs Jones, Lion Hotel, Cerrig, and family on the death of Mr W. Jones, a member of the Board.—The Master stated there were 69 in the house; the corresponding number last year, 66. The number of vagrants was 77, as compared with 59 last year.

MOLD. THE VOI,U.NTEERS.-The company of the Mold V ulullteers left Mold on Saturday for camp at Con way, where they will remain for some days. MAJOR KEENE, of Mold, has been appointed the secretary of the Territorial Association for FlintslÚre and Denbighshire, and has entered upon his duties. DEATH OF MRS PENNANT LLOYD.-We regret to announce the death of Mrs Pennant Lloyd, of Pentrehobin, wife of Mr Pennant A. Lloyd, J.P., which occurred on Saturday evening, at the age of 83. Mrs Pennant Lloyd suffered from influenza in June last, which was followed by pneumonia. The funeral took place yester- day at Nerquis. CARNIVAL COMMITTEE. The weekly meeting was held on Monday evening at the Town llall, Mr J. Wynne Williams presiding. It was reported that Captain Fairclough had kindly promised to act as "Master of the ning" on the carnival day in connection with the various military sports, etC. The president heartily con- gratulated the vice-president (Mr Thomas James) on his return amongst them after undergoing a ,;er serious operation. Mr James returned suitable thanks. A SUCCESSFUL DEFENCE.— The magis- trates heard a case on Monday in which lu Michael Fox, hawker, Pontybodkin. was sum- moned by the Inland Revenue authorities for using a carriage without a licence. (The evi- dence of Mr James W'aison, Mold, was that on the 7th April he sav, the defendant driving a light i-wo-u heeled vehicle, in which were five I'gllt men. The vehicle was not Ix-mg used for ordi- nary p.irpoges of bu'iness. The cost of a licence was 15s. %lr Mar-ton appeared for the de- fence, and submitted that the trap was never used for the conveyance of passengers. All that was done on this occasion was the trying of the horse and trap for an intending pur- n( ptir chaser, and the whole turnout was subsequent- ly sold for £ 4 15s. The men were merely in [ t.he trap to show the purchaser what the pony could do in the way of "drawing." The Bench dismissed the ease. TESTIMONIAL TO THE REV. JOHN OWEN.-—The members of the Calvinistic Metho- dist Church at Bethesda unanimously decided some time ago to present their pastor, the Rev. John Owen, with a testimonial on his departure for Liverpool. This night week a meeting was held to make the necessary arrangements for carrying out the decision of the church. A large number of the members attended, and the utmost enthusiasm prevailed. In view of the fact that Mr Owen, during his 17 years' ministry in Mold, has taken an active and prominent part in the public life of the town and district, and th&t many people, outside the CalviniBtio Methodist Communion, have expressed a desire to participate in the movement, it was decided that the testimonial should be public. Mr John. Price, coal merchant. New-street, and Mr Thomas Parry, J.P., were appointed treasurer and secre- tary respectively. Mr Owen has arranged to commence his ministry in Liverpool in Octobe* next.
PETTY SESSIONS.
PETTY SESSIONS. At the Petty Sessions Inspector Fryer, R.S.P.C.A., summoned Mr Alfred Mather and his carter, George Blackwell, who were defended by Mr Llewelyn Jones. The Inspector said that on the morning of the 10th inst. he was at Coed Talon, and he noticed a bay mare attached t4 a mineral water cart. When he examined the mare he discovered a sore on its shoulder. In answer to Mr Jones, the witness said he waa quite sure Mr Mather had admitted he knew the condition of the mare. Mr Llew. Jones submitted that he had no case to answer so far as Mr Mather was concerned. Pads were provided in the stables for the pur. pose of preventing what had now happened, George Blackwell, the carter, said Mr Mather1 had told him to take out another horse, but he did not do so. The mare did not seem to him. to be in any pain. Mr Mather said he told Blackwell to take out another horse that day, and he had no idea that the mare was in any pain. Mr Mather was fined 5s and costs, 'and the car* ter 2s 6d and costs. A charge was made against William Davies for a. similar offence. The horse was pulling a load of coal. Defendant denied that the horse was either sore or lame, and said it was suffering from heat-lumps. Defendant was fined 5s and costs. William Jones, of Coed Talon, for being drunlfc and assaulting the police was fined 2s 6d and 68 costs on the first charge, and 10s and 14s costs fox, assault.

A PLEASANT OUTING. On Thursday, Alderman Robert Owen gave his Sunday School class its annual outing. The party numbered sixteen, and at an early hour left the town in a brake for Bryntrillyn, where breakfast was served at the Sportsman's Arms. The journey was continued through Pentrefoelas and Lhn- rwst, dinner being served at the latter place. From Lbmrwst the journey was by the Carnar- vonshire rout", to T'alycafn Bridge, and thence continued to Colwyn Bay, Abergele, and St. Asaph. Tea was partaken of at Colwyn Bay. DEATH OF MR MORRIS OWEN. This sad event took place iate yesterday week after a protracted and painful illness. Mr Owen was 62 years of age, and a deacon in the Bap- tist Church. For over 35 years he was em- ployed at the Townsend Saw Mills, and waa a mizi in whom his employers had the utmost con- fidence. He was a staunch supporter of the Sunday School, in which lie always took deep interest. The funeral took place on Saturday, and was largely attended. Much sympathy is felt with Mrs Owen and family in their sorrow. CONGREGATIONAL SUNDAY SCHOOLS. —A conference of representatives of the Con- gregational Sunday Schools in the Vale of Clwyd was held at Swan Lane Chapel on Thursday, the Rev. James Charie.9, Denbigh, presiding. Mr J. Oldfield, Rhyl, and the Rev. T. J. Williams, Pwllglas (the treasurer ■ and se- cretary respectively) submitted their reports, which were adopted. A discussion ensued as to next year's festival, and it v.-n-s finally df)- cided that it be held at Denbigh as the most central town. The following officers were elec- ted for the ensuing year:—Chairman, Mr J. Simon, St. A5aph; treasurer, Air Oldficld, Rhyl; secretaries, lisv. Ben Williams, Presta- tyn, and Mr Hugh wards, Rhyl. Votes of thanks ~wcre given to the R.ev. T. J. Williams and Mr Oldficld for their services during the past year. PICNICS.—The Literary Society had its an- nual picnic on Thursday, when the members, "Wives and friends journeyed by road to Pres- tatyn, where, on arrival, thev nartook of an excellent tea in the Town Hall, prepared by Mrs lTiggins. Subsequently, the company ad- journed to a field by the beach, wfiere cri.~iy>t tennis, and other games were indulg-aci in, and in which the ladies took prominent part.
