FORTHCOMING VISIT OF CANADIAN AND AMERICAN TEACHERS. MEETING OF THE CENTRAL COMMITTEE AT RHYL. On Saturday at the Town Hall, Rhyl, a meeting was held of the Central Committee, ap- pointed to carry out the arrangements for the visit to North Wales of the American teachers, who in September next, to the number of 10U0, will visit these shores. Mr D. S. Davies was voted to the chair, and among those present were: Sir Harry Reichel, Messrs D Jones, Mold; R. Savage, Wrexham; J. De Gruchy Gaudm, Carnarvon; Owen Roberts, Holyhead; Edward Roberts, Ex-M.l.S.; H. King, Bangor; W. R. Jones, D. W, Thomas, Llan- dudno; H. Lewis, I latigoll-eil; C. W. H. Greaves, Pwllheli; J Ord Chester, -uiandudno; J. C. Brown, Rhosesmor; F. Phillips, Rhyl; J. C. Davies (Director of Education for Denbigh- shire); and Miss Gittms, Abergelo Sir Harry Reichel explained that Lord Stan- ley of Alderley had been appointed chairman, but could not attend that day, and that Air D. S. Davies had been appointed vice-chairman. TO ASSIST THE KING. Tho Chairman said he regretted that Mr P. P. Pennant would be away lor some time, and that he had been unable to take the vice-chair. Personally, he thanked the committee for elect- ing him to the vice-chair, and he would do all he could to make the visit of the American teachers nterestilig and as pleasant as possible. He was pleased to see on the committee some of the teachers who had visited America, for no doubt they would be able to give the com- mittee some valuable information. He did not know whether they could excel the hospitality offered to the English teachers by the Ameri- cans, but they would do their best. They should endeavour to assist the King in bring- ing about more pleasant relations between lOt.ner nations and this kingdom, and such visits as were now being organised would do much to cement the friendship between their cousins across the seas and the mother country (applause). It was stated that various centres had been mapped out for the visit, and the local autho- rities had been asked to oo-operate. In some instances meetings had already been held. The meeting then discussed various centres, and it was decided that they should bo as fol- lows:—Anglesey Llangefni and Holyhead. Carnarvonshire: Bangor (with Bethesda), Llan- dudno, Pwllheli. Denbighshire: Wrexham, Denbigh, and Colwyn Bay. Colwyn Bay was selected as it was pointed out that while it did not possess an intermediate school, it had most unique scholastic establishments, and that Mr Osborne, of Rydal Mount, had signified his readiness to assist in every possible way. Flintshire: Rhyl and Mold. Merionethshire: Festiniog and Barmouth Montgomeryshire: Welshpool and Machynlleth. It was ag.reed to ask the Education Autho- rities of each county to affiist in the matter, and for the chairmen oc fcouncils and Mayors to take the load in calling the necessary publio meetings and making arrangements. AMERICAN METHODS. I The Chairman then askexl for the experiences of those who had visited America. Sir Harry Reichel replied that they had to bear their own personal expenses and hotel charges except in places where they were ;ri. vite-U to private houses. Miss Gut-ens stated that everywhere arrange- ments were made for their accommodation at the best hotels, and the charges were very reason- able. It seemed there were some arrangements between the American teachers and the hotel proprietors for the accommodation of the Eng- 1'sh teachers. Tho further west tlhey went the better they were treated, and at tit. Louis the Municipality paid their expenses while in the town. Mr Roberts staled that everywhere the Ameri- cans treated the English visitors well, and the chairmen and secretaries of the local com- mittees met them at the stations and entertained them, so that t,h-e-i-o were some expenses to be borne by the locality. Mr Greave-a pointed out i,nat the English teachcrs were each provided with a special handbook when they alighted from tho train, and this gave them full particulars about the districts they were visiting and of the schools. At this stage a letter was read from Mr L. J. Roberts, ll.M I S-, who suggested that in a.ny handbook that would be prepared there should be a map of the. North Wales counties with the symbols lately used by the Board ot Education to denote the dillerent class of schools. It was decided that one joint handbook should prepare one handbook, and that in the map there should be marked tho schools of spccial interest, diioetio-ns for reaching them, and also a list of hotels. This would be useful not only to tihe visitors but also to residents. It was decided that ne joint handbook should be published, and that Sir Harry Reichel, Mr L. J. Roberts, Mr Edward Roberts, and Mr J. C. Davies should bo the joint editors. Sir Harry Reichel promised to write the letter ot welcome to the visitors. It was ducidcel to open a fund to bear tho expenses of the Central Committee, the Chair- man heading it with a subscription of JS5 5, Mr drd Ru-berts was appointed treasurer. In reply to an enquiry by Mr J. R. After discussion, on the proposal of Mr John Owen, J.P. (Avallon), seconded by Mr J. O. Thomas, J. P., the following resolution was pa-ssed: "That we extend a very hearty welcome to the Canadian a.nd American teachers, and pledge ourselves to give them a cordial recep- tion." On the proposal of Mr Marks, it was decided to appoint a local committee consisting of the following representatives :—County School Gov- ernors, Mr Wm. Bevan, J.P., and Mr John Owen, J.P.; Lla.ndudno Urban District Council, the Chairman, Mr W. H. Jones, and Councillor James J. Marks; Llandudno County School staff, the Headmaster (Mr J. OTTER liU-.NTING., Bryncrug, near Tcwyn, was the meeting place on Saturday t-0 IILIIIL the Dysynni Raver. Hounds at once spoke to a btalo drag, and puzzled tho lino cut to tho mouth of tho Cadcr Brook, near Peni irth Ueha, without result. Tho stream was afterwards drawn up to the foot of Cadcr Idris, and when abjve Gwastad- fryn tho pack opened to a trail on a small is- land. Carrying the lino forward for about a quarter of a mile, the otter was marked in potilo boulders at the bottom of a c.tscadc, and almost immediately belted clown stream. The hunt which ensued was very short, for the quarry attempting to get on to the bank was pulled down. On Monday the fixture was at 'J'owyn, when Mr Thorneycroft to: k tho pack to tho marsh, and they soon proclaimed a fresh drag. For tho first hour or so they raced up and down the ditches between Towyn and Aber- dovoy, leaving mott of the field far behind, and several times they appeared to ha\e an otter eloso at hand. After three or four hours had been spent on the'marsh, hounds wero taken some distance up the brook which flows through the Happy Valley, but would not own a line hero and wore again brought down to the marsh. They still hunted the drag, work- ing out its intricacies with great perseverance, but no otter was forthcoming, "Lhuugh there was every indication that, he was lying up in ono of the numerous littlo plantations which abound in the locality.—"Red Dragon" in "The Field."

Wynn, were engaged for several hours hearing a acnea of prosecutions against drivers of motor carô, instituted by the Merionethshire police, and conducted by Mr Jordan, solicitor, Bala. John Parkinson, chauffeur to Dr. A. Ker- shaw, a J.P. for Lancashire, was ordered io pay £ 3 10s, including costs, for having driven over a six miles stretch on the liolyticlid-roa.1, between Llangollen and Corweu, at a rate ot over 25 miles an hour. Leonard Tickner, chauffeur to Mr Spring- man, of Ruthin, had to pay £ 2 and costs; Frederick Bertram Hodgkinson, Mar pie, £ 3 and costs; Harry Hatch, Brom bo rough Pool, E3 and William Chatwcod, Najitw loh, C2 and costs; William Perks, Coventry, J62 and costs; and Charles Trusseli, Wolverhampton, JE2 and ojsts; the whole of the offences having been committed on the measured stretch on the Holy head-road, between Llangollen and Cor- wen, on June 6th. In another case Mr Maddoeks, solicitor, Co. ventry, appearing for Mr Oscar Harmer, Co- ventry, said according to the Motor Car Act 01 1903, it was a condition that notice of inten- tion to prcsecute must be given to the motor et before the summons was issued. In this case t,he notice of intention and the summons were both issued at the same tinie. Motorists must make use of every technicality for their protec- tion. The Clerk to the Magistrates said tho point had not been raised before, with his knowledge. BOWLING, COLWYN BAY CONSTITUTIONAL CLUB v. LLANDUDNO. The return match between thesa teams was played at Colwyn Bay on Saturday. In the lirst encounter at Llandudno a week previously, Llandudno wero successful in winning by the small margin of 13. Ihe Colwyn Bay team were eager to wipe out this defeat, and in the presence of a large number of spectators they now gained a hanusome victory, in the singiea they won by 128 to 63, and in the doubles by 90 to 48, winning on the total by 107 point*. THE CYMMRODORION SOCIETY ANNUAL CONVERSAZIONE- By tho courtesy of the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers the members of the Honour- able Society of L'ymmrodorion held their an- nual conversazionc on Friday evening at the Fishmongers' Hall, London. The guests, num- bering about 700, were received by Viscount Tredegar, president, who was supported by Dr. Honry Owen, the Rev. Dr. Hartwell Jones, and other members of tho Council. Amongst those present wero the Bishop of Llandaff and Mrs Hughes, Lord Glantawe and the Hon. Elaine Jenkins, Mr J. Owen Jones, Sir James \X. Szlumper, Mr Ellis J.
