Oonsiùerable discussion took ple on the question of improving the train 8ervice in the district., and it was resolved that the Clerk should forward to the various railway companies the improvements Suggested by the Council. THE GAS WORKS. The Gas Msfnager was requested to prepare a quar- terly return showing (1) tbe actual quantity of g&8 made; (2) what payment could be obtained for it; and (3) the loss consequent upon leakage and other causes. LLAN WATER SCHEME. The alternative water scheme for Llan was con- sidered, aud the matter was deferred until the old books and documents, etc., relating to the same had been examined. WATER POWER FOR CHAPEL ORGANS. On the motion ot Mr C. Roberts, seconded by Mr K Roberts, the engineer was instructed tö roport fully on the maWer of supplying water for organ pur- pose* at the Tabernacle Chapel. Mr E. R. Morris, Bodafou, applied for a reduction in the charge made for supplying his laundry with wa.t6l'Thc application was referred to the engincer to report upon. MISCELLANEOUS. The Council resolved not to pa.y in future for casings for telephone poles, and that a claim be forwarded for those already fixed by the Council. No stones, slate or kindred matreials would be used in future unless same were properly tested. A resolution was passed to serve notices on certain tenants to abate alleged nuisances. An application from Ynyscynha.iarn Urban Council for the loan of the steam rolleMvas refused. The Health Committee recommended, and the same was adopted, that the medical officer be requested tö attend the meetings of the committee in unler that the members might consult him. SEWERAGE WORKS COMMITTEE. The committee, recommended that a temporary tramway should be erected at the works, and this was adopted. Messrs Hugh Jones and J. Lloyd Jones, jun., were appointed visitors for the eUlTellt month, and Messrs B. T. Jones and T. J. Roberts were appointed scruti- neen for thc month. STORAGE RETURNS. INCREASE OF INFECTIOUS DISEASE. The Health Commitko reoommended that II. special report be obtained on the unusual number of noti- fications IJf infectious diseases during the past month, and that that report be considered at th" next meet. ing of the committee. A report by the Sanitary Inspector was read, in which it was stated that a great increase in the matter of infectious diseases had occurred during the month, 27 cases having been notified, as compared with 4. for the Ineviou8 month nnd 13 for the corres- ponding period last year. The eases were Diphtheria, 14; scarlet fever, 8; erysipelas, 5. Di- Jonefl notified 17, Dr. Evans 8, Dr. Vaughan Roberts 1, and Dr. U. J. Roberts 1. SURVEYOR'S REPORT. Mr W. E. Alitwen Williams, the Surveyor, reported that 19 lamps and 3 circuits had to be repaired dur- ing the month. The Uhiw circuit had fused. The damage hnd been caused by stormy weather. In the Surveyor's opinion, it was useless to reproduec his reports and estimates in regard to the proposed scheme for an improved water supply ilL Llan, as they could be referred to. He had prepared a new plan and section. The route of pipe line direct from Teigl Bridge to Tynant- along tne fields was 600 yards, but the crossing of Nant-yr-Eneth would mean constructing a.n aqueduct to suspend the pipes above the stream. The distance along the road was 750 yards, and the cost of both schemes would be about equal £230, including valves, etc. Perhaps the railway company would contribute towarùe the costs for the sake of abandoning the pipes now laid along the station yard. He was still of opinion that if a new lino of pipes were laid it would he hetter in every respect to make the same along the road. The ex- tensions of the Gas Works were completed. The depth of water at the lake was 9 feet 10 inches, as COD1I)ared with 10 feet 8 inches during the same period last vear. The total rainfall for October was 11.28. MEDICAL OFFICER'S REPORT. Dr. Richard Jonc8 presented his monthly report containing the following deta.il!! :-NulDber of births registered 23, nr 23.7 per 1000 of the population per annum; number of deaths 7, or 7.2 per 1000 per annum; deathg from phthisis, 2 chest affections, 3; n-ed persons, 1. The birth rate was below the average The death rate was verv I'atiefn.ct.orv. There was no death of infant under one year old registered, and 110 deaths from symotic diseases. Dr. Jones found some difficulty in accounting for the outbreak of diphtheria. Dr. Jones then dealt- with other epidemics whicl8 were not of a serious nat tire. PROPOSED ISOLATION HOSPITAL. Tho question of providing an isolation hospital in HH district was again considered. Mr O. Jones had ¡ a1.tPnrJf"fl at Penihyndeudraeth tho conference called by the Glaslyn Rural Council for the purpose nf decid- ing what steps should be taken in the matter. It. was reported that a site had been selected at an an- nual 1'1'111. of £ fi. The matter was referred to tlw Councils represented at the conference for their final decision. Mr Hugh 'Lloyd considered Gelli Green as a satis- factory site. Mr C. Roberts desirr»l a report from the Medical Offircr upon the locality of the site. Ultimately a eub-committee was appointed, together wiLh Dr. Jones, to consider the proposed scheme. A number of subscribers ha.vc presented the j Birmingham Art Gallery with a. collection of 105 (Drawings and studies in water-colour, charcoal, and ponoil by David Cox, a native of tihio city, who found man"' of his subjects in Wales- Mr Rocpevelfc has announced that he will net stand again for the Pieg-idency in any circum- i B tanoes. t [Christinas Hampers 1907.
