Llanrwst v. Carnarvon. (Nortli Wales Coast League). It was .very gratifying to find the Carnarvon League 'team turn up on Easter Monday at Gwydyr Park to fulfil their first -League en- gagement with the "Roosters" this season. A very large '•gate" was present, and the game, 'from, a Llanrwst point of view, was one of great: excitement. The whole of the, homesters were -in great form, and defeated the "Canaries" bys, even goals to one. -0-

An Interesting Match. THE ERSTWHILE LLANDUDNO SWIFTS VERSUS .LLANDUDNO AMATEURS. A friendily match between these teams drew together a large crowd on the Council's Ground, Llancndno, on Good Friday. Hedley Be van, Johnnie D. Robert's, the small Willie Allman, 'the tall Fred Jones, 'and the ubiquitous Ned Hughes, were amongst .the old iSwifts, and the appearance of the old players afforded much pleasure. A rattling game ended in a victory of two goals to one in favour of the veterans. -0-

Tortmadoc v. Newton le At Portmadoc, before a good gate, last Satur- day. A fair game, fthe pace warm, but the com- bination ragged' on the whole. With a breeze at their backs, the Port men scored twice, the first being -really due to. Moseley Jones, although it was Roberts who put the finishing touch with a "rattler" which shook the "rigging." The second came (about in this way: Dick Hughes obtaining possession., and having tricked the right full-back of Newton, let fly with a long, oblique shot which was, ,steered' into the net by Moseley Jones. If Portmadoc had kept up the pace and dashing display with which they play- ed during the first seven minutes of the second, half, they would have scored1 at least two more goals. But they slackened pace, and allowed their opponents to s'core twice, both of which goals, I believe, were the disastrous results1 of loose kicking, or rather mis-kicking, on the part of the full backs. The claim for a penalty by Portmadoc 'appeared to be a very fair and just one, and the spectators were surprised to find the referee refusing to grant it. But Mr Ilughes is such a fair referee a-L, all times that one was not inclined to find much fault with him. Still, i't was Hard lines. Notes. "Will Colwyn: Bay turn, up next week at Port- madoc for the finishing touch And is the "vanishing touch" about to happen to Rhyl Athletic? There are queer rumours in the air! Our -correspondent "Vigilant'' has been "had on toast" fairly last week. When some schol- arly "wag" 'told him that Llandudno "had all the play and that Portmadoc had all the luck." Why, sir, the -facJts are jusf the reverse from all accounts of 'those who saw the game with their own eyes. How these "imaginary binoculars do twist facts In the first half, Portmadoc were simply buzzing aroud the citadel of Llan- dudno, but score they could not, try as they would. Do let us .try and', be fair to one another. -'0-
Bala Press Easter Matches.

Bala Press Easter Matches. On Gocd Friday, at iBala, in fine weather, and before a fairly good gate, the 'Press played a -friendly with New Brighton Wednesdays (members of the Liverpool and District Free Church League, and at present holding second position). The game from beginning to end was of a give-and-take character, and at times inclining to be rough, 'fouls being rather fre- quent. The (final result Avas: Press, 4 goals; New Brighton, 3. The referee was Dr White- Jones. On Saturday the ,I)ress journeyed to Dol- gelley -to play that town in the final for the Dolgelley Fire Brigade Challenge ICup and medals. The game started at 3.30, under the watchful eye -of Mr G. O. 'Postle, Cefnmawr. Dolgelley won the toss, and decided to play down the slope, with the sun and. wind at their 'backs; and when fthe Press put the ball in motion, a good number of spectators had as- sembled. The opening stages of the game were very stubbornly contested, but Dolgelley hav- ing 'the advantage -of the wind, soon made tracks .for 'the visitors' goal, and after about; ten minutes' play they succeeded in netting the ball. From the kick-off, the 'Press went1 at ''t, "heart and, soul," and they had very hard lines in not scoring, two or three corner kicks falling to their lot in iquick succession. Once, Tom Hughes had the goal at his mercy, but 'his shot just skimmed the .goal-post. Half-time arrived, with Dolgelley leading by one goal to nil. On resumption, 'the Press strived' hard to ,get! on equal terms, and at length luck went their way, for Tom Hughes put in a teaser, which found the net. After this, some midfield play took place, but Dolgelley could not penetrate the visitors' defence, and time after time they were repulsed. The Press forwards were now show- ing some of their usual combination, and J. E. Jones, having possession, rushed the ball between the backs, and, with a well-judged kick, pu't his side ahead. This was loudly cheered by the spectators. In the last fifteen minutes the Press were doing most of the, at- tacking, shot after shot being rained on the goalkeeper, though he -kept his citadel in fine style. Owing to some misunderstanding, the -visitors' backs let the opposing forwards in. The goalkeeper ran out to 'clear, but he missed his kick, and the ball was rolling over the line into the net when the left back just managed to clear. The same player a little later, with a huge kick from over half-way, planted the ball over the homesters' net. From a throw-in;, Dick Evans got possession, and, eluding all opposition, scored the third goal for his side. Wi'thin two- minutes of the 'call of time, he scored another, thus making the final result: Bala Press, 4 goals; Dolgelley, I. The cup and medals were presented to the Press at the Criterion Temperance Hotel by Mr E. E. Jones, secretary of the competition. On the arr-ival of the 'team at Bala, a large crowd had assembled at the station to give them a hearty welcome, and the players were escorted through 'High-street in a brake, fol- lowed by an Immense crowd, singing '"Hurrah 'for Bala Press." Later -on,, the cup was ex- hibited in the window of Mr Llew Edwards, stationer. The Press team was as follows:— T. O. Parry; backs, D. M. Davies and I-T. R. Davies; hal-f-backs, J. W. Leary, R. n. Wil- liams, and E. L'l. Edwards; forwards, Tom Hughes, J. E. Jones, Dick Evans (captain), T. J. Edwards, and, John 11. Lloyd. Linesman Mr T.J.Roberts, butcher. On Easter Monday the Press played Wrex- ham Fridays at Wrexham, and the game ended in a draw of one goal each. --0-

Good Friday Junior Competition at Llanrwst. (BY "VIGILANT.") One of the most interesting competitions it is possible to expect from very young juniors took place on Friday last on a field kindly lent by Mr Mclntyre. The weather was fine, and springlike, and there was an amount of enthu- siasm that is often absent at a more serious and important -contest. A set of young players, styled the Gwydyr Rovers, started the competi- tion, and they secured eleven medals. Together with the Rovers, three other teams, entered, viz., ,the Bull Rangers, Tanlan United, and Scotland Ramblers. The latter met the (Bull Rangers in the first round-, and the "Bullers" were victor- ious by two goals and corners. The laext round was between the'Tanlan United and Gwydyr Rovers, and a most excitin game was wit- nessed, plenty of pluck, (lash, and determina- tion 'being seen, especially on. the side of the Rovers. The game enaed in a good, win for the latter by two goals, and corners to one -goal: The final tie took place about half-an-hour afterwards, and the 'contest between the Gwydyr Rovers and the 'Bull Rangers was one of the most exciting and clever junior matches seen in Llancwst. Although the largest-sized ball was used, the manner in which the tiny feet circum- vented and controlled it was wonderful. An old veteran, the president of the N. W. Coast League, who was present, averred it was the best match he had seen for years, and in this opinion I am at one with him. The amount of earnestness instilled into the play was most pleasing, and the speed of some of the young- sters was. very noticeable. The Rangers were the first to gain advantage, being the heavier side, and ere long-, two goals had been scored against the Rovers.Pluckily playing up, the Gwydyr Rovers were award.ed a goal ere half-time arrived, at which period the score was: Rangers, 2; Rovers, 1. The Rovers being the more diminutive set, had the sym- pathy of the crowd. Their tactics were very clever, and ere long they equalised. Then the Rangers led by another goal, followed soon afterwards by a fourth. It was thought when the Rangers led by 4-2 thev would be sure win- ners, but by "sticking to their sju.ns," the Rovers secured another goal, and about ten minutes from time they equalised amidst great jubila- tion and excitement. The remaining portion of the game was stubbornly congested, and iust on the call of time the Rangers, from a corner, managed to clap on the winning goal. Final: Bull Rangers, 5 ;■ Gwydyr Rovers, 4. z,

FOOTBALL NOTES. [BY "VIGILANT."] The Easter holidays provided the usual feast of League, friendly, and competition matches. Llanrwst lost :a -couple of points under very unlucky circumstances on Saturday at 'Pen- maenmawr, whilst the Quarrymen are to be congratulated upon -cc,mpletiiig-fcr the first time, I believe—the whole of uieir League en- gagements. Their position has been vastly im- proved in the League table to what it was some six weeks back. They were "wooden spoon- ists" for some time, but are now landed in a respectable position on the League table. Llan- rwst, in the match on Saturday, were very un- fortunate in losing the services of Hayes through a serious accident, though the display mace by ,the weakened "Rooster" ranks was very meritorious indeed. Trevor and Pierce played gamely, and the trio of halves were the nucleus of a strong defence. J. R. Jones did wonderful thiiigs. Cecil Morgan maintained the high standard, of his usual excellent display, and Jim Jones was as resourceful and "nippy" as ever. J. 0. Jones made a good partner for McCann, though, the- latter was too well watched (as beiii, the only regular forward playing on it-he day). Finchett and Hughes were weak on the left, but (lId the best they could under the vigorous opposition they re- peatedly encountered. Louis Roberts, as centre, played a hard and very plucky gamtj, being a thorn- in the side of Foulkes! I .hardly think the Quarrymen were wise to play against tho v\(:.nd m the firsit half, but I opine the great success at Llandudno, under similar circumstances, was the incentive. The whole team played; well, though some shady n their part had to be promptly checked by Referee Hunt. W. Edwards is surely a good ,enough player 'to dispense with such tactics. W. E. Hughes was much -cleaner. The halves were 'busy as bees, and Foulkes, at centre, was iv.ery successful at times, though he had a "nut! to 'crack" in the persistency of the "yellow" forward. 'Blackburn atid Jarvis were very effective, and J. Roberts and -LI. Roberts, on the left wing, were a very dangerous pair when set ,going, frevor is a capital centre. I have always admired his play, and he is a "dab hand" at shooting. W. S. Jones and Griffiths make a good pair to complete a capable front, rank, though on Saturday's play the left wing was the be'.iter. Jones in goal was very fair. Carnarvon suffered heavily on Easter Mon- day at the .hands of the "Roosters" in Gwydyr Park. Seven goals to one needs- a Jot of ex- planation. It was .evidently the 'case -of the "Rooster" off his perch, and the "Canary" in his cage. Fancy! Another visiting League team "•rubbed 'Llanberis, to wit! The revised Col- wyn Bay team seems to. do wonders beCimes. The above-mentioned performance was credited to them at Colwyn Bay on Monday. I wonder what will they do at Portmadoc, on Saturday. Buck up, ye "Bayites," and make a good "fite Another "eye-opener" was given th.e 5 1000 spectators at Wrexham on Monday, when the Wrexham team beat the now well-known Abe.r- aman team by eight goals 'to nil. Why a team of the s,tamp of Aberaman should -go down so terribly at the final tie -of the Welsh Cup is one of the mysteriesattached to. the vicissitudes of the socker code. .6
