Complimentary Dinner to Mr. & Mrs. Davies, Thistle Hotel. The impending departure of the genial host and hostess of the Thistle Hotel was the occasion of a happy gathering of friends at the house" on Friday even- ing, when a complimentary dinner was arranged as a mark of cordiality and good feeling towards Mr. and Mrs. Davies. That thei invitations sent out by Mr. Dd. Llewellyn, Glamorgan Offices, found ready response was shewn by the number pre- sent, and was in itself a pleasing reflec- tion of the object for which the evening was set apart. The dinser was in every way an excellent one, and ample justice was done at the tables. Mr. Tom Wil- liams, W.F.U., presided over the after- proceedings, and the "King and Royal Family" were toasted. A song entitled Dreams of My Childhood" was then effectively rendered by Mr. D. C. Evans, Miskin Hotel, Trealaw, which evoked the congratulations of the listeners. Mr. W. Morgan, White Hall, Trealaw, in pro- posing the toast of the Visitors," re- ferred to their two Cardiff friends pre- sent, namely, Mr. Davies, solicitor (bro- ther of. the landlord), and Mr. Phil- lip Thomas, and spoke of them as being ardent supporters of the game of foot- ball. In order to enforce this remark, the speaker betrayed some matrimonial secrets by saying that Mr. Gwyn Nicholls and Mr. Winfield, of football renown, were engaged to be married to the daugh- ters of Mr. Thomas. He (Mr. Morgan) could not refrain from saying how sorry they were one and all at the thought of losing Mr. and Mrs. Davies from their midst, and he hoped that at their new place of business at Port Talbot they would be successful and make as many friends as they had here. Mr. Davies, Cardiff, in responding to the toast, said he was very pleased to be present and to hear such good reports of his brother, who in leaving the district was like the Prodigal Son returning to his native heath. Mr. Thomas followed, and in the course of his remarks said that he used to, travel the Valley 25 years ago, when the Cwm- clydach Colliery was in full swing, and it gave him great pleasure to renew the ac- quaintance of so many sportsmen. He thought that although football was our national game, a, better feeling should exist with regard to cricket. Mr. and Mrs. Davies, he said, were returning to their old home, and would leave with his best wishes for their future welfare. He trusted that their successors at the Thistle Hotel would receive, the same sup- port as they had. Mr. David Roberts, Royal Stores, Cly- dach Vale, added his mede of praise, to Mr. and Mrs. Davies, and wished them prosperity in their new sphere. Mr. Davies, Cardiff, then related a humorous story in splendid style, after which came the toast of the evening, "The Host and Hostess." The Chairman re- gretted the absence of the proposer of the toast, Mr. T. P. Jenkins, J.P., and said that they would miss the kindly faces and cheery greetings of Mr. and Mrs. Davies, who had made a host of friends during their stay amongst them. They wished to shew their further regard for them with a testimonial, and Mr. David Llewellyn was elected secretary of the fund. The chairman had the greatest pleasure in proposing a hearty send-off. Mr. Davies, in replying, thanked them all for their kind words, and said he was sorry to leave Tonypandy, and these ex- pressions were reiterated by Mrs. Davies in a graceful speech.
