BALA. DISTRICT NURSE.-On Sunday last the annua collections were made in all places of worship throughout Penllyn towards the nure fund. MARRIAGE OF THE REV T. T. PHILLIPS, B.D.— The members of the Bala Independent Chapel have decided, on the occasion of the marriage of their esteemed minister, to present him with a handbome present and also to give an increase of 910 per annum in his salary. Wilful Damage to Clothes.—John Richards of Penybont. nfar Bila, farm servant, was summoned by W. T. Rob rts, Meirion House, for having wil- fully damaged certaIn linen and wearing apparel belonging to hun. Mr J. R. Jordan, solicitor, appearel on behalf of the complainant.—Laura Jones, washerw oman, said she put out Mr Roberts's clothes to dry on the fence of Penybont field, close to Aran View. In the afternoon of the same day, she went for lie clothes, when she found that they had been thrown into the field and were badly torn. Defendant v. as in the field.—Edw. Hughes, Aran- lane, and Owen Davies, Morris-court, two young lads, said they saw defendant taking the clothes off the fmce and throw them into the field.-Com- plainant was called and stated that the clothes pro- duced were his property, which he valued at about 18?. Defendanr said he could not get the cows to pass owing to the clothes being on the fence and he lost considerable time with them. This was the first time for him to be summoned, but he supposed there was a beginning to everything. (Laughter.) — ^Ch 0ldered defendant to pay 10s 6d costs and 10s 6d for dative to clothes. Chof Attempted Suicide. -Catherine Row- lands, Plasey-alley, who as remanded last Tues- day, was brought up and cWged by Inspector Morgans with having attempted to commit suicide on Septe-nber 4th.- Tne evidence was the effect that prisoner tried to drown herself in the t'nr Dee close to Penybont. Inspector Morgan, dlO happened to be in the vicinity, asked her to come out, but she refused and told the Inspector that she had determined to do away with herself as she had had enough of lif". However, the Inspector went inio the river and got her out and persuaded her to go with her granddaughter and anothe: woman. Prisoner started in front of her companions to- wards the t,),, n. Tne Inspector stood on the Dee bridge aud before long he saw prisoner in the lake up to her neck in water. He started towards her, but as soon as he reached the rpot c he came out of the water. He took her into custody and charged her with attempting to commit eu:c:de. She replied that her granddaughter wou'd not give her any peace day or night and she preferred to do away with herself than live such a life.-Ti e evidence adduced by Eliz. Rowlands, the granddaughter, wps to the ( ff-et that she and the prisoner were going towards :the Dee bridge on the day in question when they quarrel'd and prisoner said she was go- ing to do away with herself. Witness tried to get her ont of the water, but failed. She saw Inspec- tor Morgan corning along the road and she shouted to him. He came up and polled the prisoner out. —The Bench bound 'he prisoner over in the sum of f5 to be of good behaviour.

HARVEST FESTIVAL.—Harvest thanksgiving ser- vices were held in the Church on Tuesday, Sept. 12th. Services were held in English in the morn- ing at eight o'clock and in the afternoon at three. Welsh services were held "t ten o'clock and at seven in the evening. The preacher at the Welsh evening service was the Rev. David Jones, vicar of Abereirch. LECTURES,—Two costume Icctrres, illustrating scenes in Palestine, were delivered in the Parish Room on Thursday by the Rev. Samuel Schor. The cli-ir was taken by the rector, the Rev. J. Lloyd Jones. After each lecturs interesting articles were exhibited for scle for the benefit of the mis- sionary work in the Holy Land. AUCTION.—Four freehold cottages pnd gardens, known as Ty'DylTolt, and three newly-built lease- hold bouses in Cas' Ie-street, wpre offered for sale at the George Hotel on Saturday afternoon. Mr Henry Roberts was the auctioneer. The freehold property was first put up in one lot and was started at £ 600. It was eventually withdrawn at f720. The property was then put up in four lots. No bids were made for lots 1, 3, 4, and lot 2 started at £ 200 and was ultimately withdrawn at E250. The leasehold cottages in Castle-street were not sold.

PWLLHELI. APPOINTMENT.—The Rev W. E. Jones of Dol- benmaen, has been appointed to the living of Llanor, near Pwllheli. TRIP.—A Sunday school trip of some hundreds of people and children from Penygroes paid a visit to Pwllheli on Monday last and spent a good time. HARVESTING. Harvesting is nearly over in Lleyn and the district. Crops are good and give great satisfaction. WATER SUPPLY AT NEviN.-There has been a slight scarcity of water in Nevin this summer and the question of a future and sufficient supply will soon engage the attention of the authorities there. TYDr, LLA.NBEDROG. -This old and well known public house-is to be taken down and in its place will be built a large and commodious hostelry for the accommodation of tourists and visitors. SUCCESS.—Mr John Richard Ellis, son of the Rev John Ellis, Edge Hill, and brother of Mrs Dr R. Rees of this town, has passed the usual Board of Trade sxamination as captain. STEAM ROLLER.—A steam roller, engaged by the Corporation, is just now doing work on the South Beach embankment road. Several otiier streets in the town are said to be in nsed of the same attention. COMING OF AGE.—Mr Claude Lloyd Edwards of Nanhoron, will attain his majority this week and the event will be suitably celebrated. Mr Edwards has already shown great interest in agri- cultural and other matters in the district, and is well spoken of by his tenants. COMPLIMENTARY BENEFIT ENTERTAINMENT.—The local minstrel troupe, composed of members of the Pwllheli Cricket Club, gave a complimentary benefit entertainment at the West-end Assembly Room on Tuesday night. September 12th, to Mr and Mrs F. E. Young. The concert was well patronised. MARRIAGE.—On Thursday, September 7th, at Salem Chapel, in the presence of Mr R. T. Pritchard, registrar, the Rev W. Ryle Davies officiating, Mr William Pritchard Roberts, son of Mr Richard Roberts, 2, Roden street, Holloway, London, was married to Miss Annie Griffithq, d ughter of the late Mr Griffith Griffiths of Ynye- creua, Llangybi. Mr Roberts, stationmaster, Duffws, cousin to the bridegroom, acted as best man and Miss Williams, Penrhyndeudraeth, niece to the bride, as bridesmaid The Wedding March was played by Miss Winnie Jones, Gaerwen House. A large number of friends and relatives partook of the wedding breakfast which was provided at the Eifl Hotel. The Rev W. Ryle Davies presided and Mr W. Pritchard, Nanho on, uncle to the bride- groom, acted as vice-chairman. FIRE.—A serious fire broke out on the Allt Fawr" Rock, Aberech-road, about ten a.m. on Friday last and lasted for hours, causing much damage. Stones rolled down into the road on to the houses and ino the yards in Abererch-road. The occupiers were much alarmed and the danger to them and pedestrians was considerable. A lad named John Williams, porter at the Cambrian Station, who, wFth others, was engaged in trying to check the fire, was struck on the thigh by a stone which rolled from above where he stood, his leg being broken. He was at once conveyed home and attended by D^. O. W. Griffith and Jones. The fire brigade appeared upon the sce.e about ten p.m., but in consequence of the defective ap- paratus which they possessed their efforts were very feeble. The fire, which was caused by a youth, smouldered uctil the following day. It is thirty-two years since there was such a conflagra- tion in the sf-me place before. The face of the rock has an unsightly appearance in consequence.
