TO THE ELECTORS OF DUFFRYN WARD. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, At the urgent request of a number of Electors of this Ward, I have decided to become a Candidate for a Seat on the Mountain Ash Urban District Council at the forthcoming Election. I have previously had the honour of serving for a period of 9 years on the late School Board; also, for several years on the Joint Pupil Teachers' Centre. I was for some years a Governor of the Aberdare County School, and am now a Governor of the Cardiff University College, as well as other pos- itions having in view the public welfare. In seeking the honour of /epreiantiag y<)u on the Council, I shall have much pleasure in endeavour- ing to efficiently carry the duties appertaining thereto. I hope to place my views before you during the next few days, and I trust you will extend to me your influence and support. I am, Yours faithfully, Ffrwd House, GWILYM A. EVANS. Mountain Ash, 18th March, 1909. Mountain Ash Urban District Council Election, 5th April, 1909. TO THE ELECTORS OF DARRAN LAS WARD. Ladies and Gentlemen, At the request of many Electors, I have con- sented to become a Candidate for a seat on this Council as a representative of your Ward. I have resided in Mountain Ash nearly 15 years, and during that time have taken an interest in all j that concerns the welfare of the town. If I am elected as your representative, it would enable me to be more closely identified with Edu- cation and the training of the young. I am strongly in favour of an improved system of Secondary Education in Wales, which would en- able bright and intelligent children to continue their scholastic careers in spite of the lack of funds on the part of their parents. Scholarships should be increased and made of greater value to enable those children who win them to pursue their stud- ies under the best conditions. For this purpose I ¡ would support the Council in bringing all the pressure possible upon the Government to largely increase the grants from the Imperial Exchequer. In appealing to you for your supportand interest, I assure you I will do all I can to further the best interests of the town, so that we may live under the healthiest and happiest conditions. Living as I do among you, I know that our interests are identical and I feel that it is my duty, and it will always be a pleasure, to serve you to the best of my ability. I intend calling upon you in the course of a few days, when I can personally appeal to you for your support. I am, Your obedient servant, "Redlands," GWILYM JONES. Mountain Ash, 30th March, 1909.
