ABERYSTWITH LITERARY AND PHILO- SOPHICAL INSTITUTION. We have to announce, and we do so with the greatest pleasure, that it is in contemplation imme- diately to form, at Aberystwith, a Literary and Phi- losophical Institution, for the general promotion of the Arts and Sciences. It isfproposed we understand, to vest the property of the Institution in Trustees chosen by the Owners of shares of five guineas each, such shares to be transferable. The payment of one guinea annually to constitute a member during pay- ment, and Visitors are to be eligible on payment of such a proportion of the annual subscription as the Council of the Society shall direct. It is intended to divide the Institution into three departments. 1 A PERMANENT LIBRARY upon miscellaneous subjects. 2 A MUSEUM of Natural History and works of Art, and 3 A LABORATORY containing an apparatus for faci- litating the progress of Science by Philosophical ex- periments, Lectures and Observations. The affairs of the Society are to be under the direction of a Council of twelve members chosen annually from the Shareholders and Subscribers, five of whom to form a quorum, who are annually at their first General Meeting, to appoint and elect the Officers for the year and in addition to the twelve elected Members of Council, the Patrons, 'Presidents, and Treasurer, are to be ex officio Members of the Council. The Secretary, who is also to act as Librarian, is to be a paid Officer, and is to give security for the due performance of his duties. To him is to be intrusted the correspondence with the Literati and Promoters of Science and all manuscripts and communications with the Society, are to be under his charge. He is also to have the sole care of all Periodicals and Books ordered by the Council, of which he is to keep a catalogue and he is to hold the keys of the Library. Such, we believe, is the general outline of the pro- posed Institution and we shall be happy to hear that a public meeting of the Gentry and Inhabitants of the town and neighbourhood, is appointed, to frame the rules and promote the success of such a valuable ac- quisition to the community as a LITERARY AND PHI- LOSOPHICAL INSTITUTION.

BRILLIANT RUN, LAST THURSDAY, WITH MR. PRYSE PRYSE'S FOX-HOUNDS. On Thursday last the Gogerddan Fox-hounds met at Nanteos, the seat of Col. Powell, M.P. a favorite meet, where we are always sure to find a fox, the Co- lonel being nothing less than an out-and-out Preser- ver. Immediately after being thrown into cover, the hounds found a brace of Foxes one of them made for the keeper's house at Nanteos, and the other for Cwmrheidol. The hounds divided, but they were got together as quickly as possible, and laid on to the Fox that had taken a fancy to the Cwmrheidol coun- try. And now the work commenced. We ran, swift as the wind," and without the slightest check, to the Mo.iach, close to the Devil's bridge. Reynard, instead of crossing the Monach took the Rheidol, and preferred two or three turns in the Rock, by which he thought to baffle his game pursuers, but although he tried it on pretty strong it was no go the gallant pack were too near him. They got him out of the rock and ran him down the side of the Rheidol by Tyn- llwyn, turning through Melindwr, he passed near the Druid, making straight for Alltywern. The hounds ran into him at Glanrheidol, close by Mr. Hughes's house where they killed him after a most brilliant run over at least twenty miles of country as trying to the wind-office as mortal could desire. In proof of this, although a very large field mustered in the morning, only three were up at the death, viz., Mr. John Pugh Pryse, Mr. Powell Davies, and the Huntsman. Lucky for them their nags were all right, that day—Condition will tell. Mr. Goldie Walker came up immediately after the fox was killed, and Mr. Wall; as for the rest why they were anywhere and everywhere, consoling themselves no doubt, as well as they could. And now Mr. Demetian, I should like to know after such splendid runs as these hounds show us, who can com- plain of want of sport at Aberystwith in the winter. "TALLY HO."

WEYHILL FAIR.-The Hop Fair opened to-day (Tuesday)—the prices in the Farnham row for the best did not exceed £2,5 per cwt., while inferior sam- ples fell to £13 and X20 per cwt., some as low as £ 17. Hops in the Crondal rows realized from XI i' gradually up to £ 22, many remain unsold. The number of new pockets grounded this year in the Farnham row was 578 new, and 94 old: while in the country rows, there were 825 new, and 550 old. A great many fine Sussex and Essex new Hops were grounded on the hilL-Good Sussex were sold from £10 10s., to J12 12s., per cwt., and upwards.
