Ueatfis. Died at Maesbangor, on the 1st of September, after a very short illness, aged 28, Sophia Evans, daughter of Mr Tho- mas [Evans. At Llanbadarn, on Sunday the6th instant, atthe advanced age of 83, Mr. William Hughes, a freeholder, and one of the oldest members of the Calvanistic Methodists. On Friday the 11th instant, aged 16, Margaret, daughter of Mr. Thomas Jones, of Brynowen, after a very short illness. we are happy to state that a handsome sum was subscribed for that purpose. (Shipping and Mer- cantile Gazette.) The Iron Trade.-An advance of 10s. per ton has been made on the price of Iron by the Staffordshire and Welsh houses. This alteration has, we under- stand, been caused by the sudden demand for rails for the railroads in America, the extension of lines in which country is proceeding with rapid strides. Orders for this species of manufactured iron have, during the past week, been given out to the Iron trade to the enormous weight of 35,000 tons; and it is anticipated, when this contract is completed, others will speedily follow, though probably not to the present extent. (Birmingham Advertiser.) Adult Baptism.-On Sunday afternoon last the important rite of baptism was administered to six persons, a youth and five young women, in the river, near the bridge by the Gas Works, in this town. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. William Roberts, and a very suitable address in English was delivered to the spectators, by the Rev. W. Evans. Baptist Missionary Society We understand that an anniversary meeting of the Aberystwith Baptist Missionary Society will be holden on Monday even- ing next, at which John Hughes, Esq. Mayor, is ex- pected to preside. A Queen's letter has been signed, ordering that collections be made in all the churches throughout England and Wales, in behalf of the National Society for promoting the Education of the Poor in the principles of the Established Church. Dr. Shuttleworth, the new Bishop of Chichester, was elected Warden of New College in 1822, and was Proctor in the year 1820. He gained the prize for the Latin poem (subject Byzantium) in 1803, the same year that Bishop Heber gained the English prize.
