ONE OF EI(iHTCKN At the Central Criminal Cuurt, (London), Ernest James Tong i28), postman, pleaded gt|ill<y to steal- ing a number of postal orders.—Mt. Gill proaecu- ted.—Prisoner was an auxiliary letter-carrier at Leytonstone, at I2s.6d. a week. Owing to freqnent- complaints of lettevs and postal orders not reach- ing their dastinatioa, he was watched. Two test letters were made up, and he atote them both. When charged with the offence, he denied hi» guilt, and became violent, threatening to stab any- one who should try toeearch him. Force was usetb by the police; and, as being searched, the pri- soner was found to have some of the missing postal, orders in his possessioiL-Prieoner asked to be leniently dealt with, om the ground of previous- good character and that he was one of eighteen of a fMnUy.—He was sent to seven years' penal servi- tude.

A GENEROUS EMPLOYER. William Gaythorne Dudlov Wyatb (36), clerk,. pleaded guilty to eeverttt oaarges of theft and forgery.— He was in the employ of Mr. Hagh Didcott, theatrical and musieal agent, he was Mr. Didcott's manager, and hail a salary of 93 12s. a. week. Some time ago ho stole six guineas belong- ing to his employer, and ran away. He then took to stealing letters, the pten he adopted being ta got into the hulls of omess and houses after de- liveries of letters. He would then take whntletters he could, on the off chauoe of their containing what was valuable. Two fit these letters contained-, cheques, on one of which be forgell an endorsement. Mr Didcott, so far from pressing the charge against the prisoner, offered through counsel to take him. back into his employ and give him another chance, if the Court would consent to take a merciful view )f the case.—Mr. Hill. on behalf of the Post Office authorities, said lieoould not concur with this re- quest.—The Recorder sentenced prisoner to IS montha' itard labour.

A CAREER OF CRI ME. Anrtie Morley, afed about 28, rather tall and of good appearance, has been charged at the Bromley [Kent) Police Court with burglariously breaking into the dwelling-house of a person named Norton Thatcher, in the Penge Road, Beckenham, and stealing therefrom seveml articles of value. Sha was seen leaving the promises at nighb with the articles in her possession. Her career is remark- able. In 1881 she was lodging at Greenwich antt, itole a £50 Batak of England note and decamped. Shortly afterwards she was committed for trial by bho Bromley magistrates for the murder of her illegitimate child by drowning, and was acquitted at Lewos Assises. Immediately on her release sha was re-apprchended for felony at Greenwich, and' was sentenced to five years' penal servitude. On cominapoul of gaol she removed to Portsmouth or Gospr^t and committed another felony, for which the was sentenced to a further term of five years. It is stated that since she has been liberated she. has been lodging at the house of a police officer who was unacquainted with her character. Other charges of burglary at Greenwich and elsewhere were also stated against her, and she was com- mitted for trial.

(Loudon), before' the Common Sergeant, Frederick Clark (~3), and' Joseph Wilkin-* (7<>), were indicljed for having feloniously In their possession a quantity ot counterfeit. ftorin", half-crowns, and sixpences, and also having in their possession moulds and other implemenn for making counterfeit coin.—Mr. Poland and Mr. ISudkin prosecuted.—It a^itfaccd that in runsequenco of certain information that was received by tliepolire. Inspector Chamber- lain, accompanied by two detective sergeanta- named Brogan and .lii|>o, went, to a IKIIIHO in Zoar Street, Soiithvark, and on knocking at- a door of one of the r00ins it was opened by the prisoner Clark, who appeared to have just jumped but of the be,1 in wbidl the oilier prisoner was,. lying. On making a search, they found several moulds for making half-crowns, florins, and six- pences. Tlio moulds were still warm, and had evi- dently only Itoen recently used. In the room wera Slso found a number of countorfoit half crowns,, florins, and sixpences, wrapiied up in paper, and ready for circulation. In the fireplace wero nlso- found several broken mould-i. which had been placed on the tire in order that they might be destroyed. On the chimney-piece there was found a piece of paper, on which was written what was evidently an order for counterfeit coin. It was addressed— Dear Fred," and had no doubt been sent to tho prisoner Clark. There wore also found in the room a bottle containing acid used by coiners, and vari- ous other implements of the nefarious trade.— The jury found both prisoners guilty.—Ins[>ector Chamberlain informed the Court that a charge- would be made against Clark of having inflicted serious injury by slabbing a man about 12 months ago at Walworth, and he would be removed by habeas corpus to answer that charge before the, magistrate at the Southwark Police Court. -Tike- Common Serjeant consequently postjjoned passing sentence upon the charge of coiniug until the next: sessions.

At the Woolwich Police Court, William Fenti man (29), an engineer employed in the Royal Arsenal, was charged with knowingly and unlaw fully taking from the care of her mother and Siardian a girl under the age of 18 years.—Louise rooks, a widow, said I live at 6, Taylor Street, Woolwich, and the prisoner, a single man, has been lodging in my house. My daughter Blanche hae also lived with me. She will be 18 years of ageoc June 21 next). The prisoner has been paying hit addresses to her for tne last ten months, with mj. consent. The other day, when I Was in a back room my daughter left the house.without giving me any. warning, or leaving any note or message behinc her. The prisoner was still in the house, and 1 asked him, Where is Blanche ?" to which lit answered, She put on her hat and went out but I don't know where she has gone." I then went out to search for her, and when f returned he had gont, also. Three weeks ago we had some disagreement and I said to him, You had better go. and takt her with yoa."
