-+- CHARGE OF COINING. At the Central Criminal Court. (Loudon), before' the Common Sergeant, Frederick Clark (~3), and' Joseph Wilkin-* (7<>), were indicljed for having feloniously In their possession a quantity ot counterfeit. ftorin", half-crowns, and sixpences, and also having in their possession moulds and other implemenn for making counterfeit coin.—Mr. Poland and Mr. ISudkin prosecuted.—It a^itfaccd that in runsequenco of certain information that was received by tliepolire. Inspector Chamber- lain, accompanied by two detective sergeanta- named Brogan and .lii|>o, went, to a IKIIIHO in Zoar Street, Soiithvark, and on knocking at- a door of one of the r00ins it was opened by the prisoner Clark, who appeared to have just jumped but of the be,1 in wbidl the oilier prisoner was,. lying. On making a search, they found several moulds for making half-crowns, florins, and six- pences. Tlio moulds were still warm, and had evi- dently only Itoen recently used. In the room wera Slso found a number of countorfoit half crowns,, florins, and sixpences, wrapiied up in paper, and ready for circulation. In the fireplace wero nlso- found several broken mould-i. which had been placed on the tire in order that they might be destroyed. On the chimney-piece there was found a piece of paper, on which was written what was evidently an order for counterfeit coin. It was addressed— Dear Fred," and had no doubt been sent to tho prisoner Clark. There wore also found in the room a bottle containing acid used by coiners, and vari- ous other implements of the nefarious trade.— The jury found both prisoners guilty.—Ins[>ector Chamberlain informed the Court that a charge- would be made against Clark of having inflicted serious injury by slabbing a man about 12 months ago at Walworth, and he would be removed by habeas corpus to answer that charge before the, magistrate at the Southwark Police Court. -Tike- Common Serjeant consequently postjjoned passing sentence upon the charge of coiniug until the next: sessions.
