FROM PONTYPRIDD TO AMERICA. VOYAGE BY A PONTYPRIDD EMI- GRANT. INTERESTING ACCOUNT. '•Starf in? fr^rri Pots',TT)Tid^ nt. 8.30 t.ra., m good spirits, we Arrived at Qualier's'Yard at 8.50, when we joined the Great Western Railway, and left at 9.15, arriving at Pon'ypool at 10.40, whera we parted company with mar;y friends, perhaps to n1"st no more. Pfissirig along a beautitnl country we arrived at Perpercwn, whare we enjoy d a beautiful night of pretty hills, and pasting 01i we caaie in view of th S gar Loaf Mountain, which extrsniel}7 pretty wito the suns ray3 striking on it. Arriving at Abergavenny at 11 a.m with the weather rather dull. we continued our journey through a fine country until Hereford was reaohed n, 12.20, and aft*?r a stay of 15 minutes we con- tinued omr journey among hills and d les, and in sight of tempting mushroom beds of e. te sive area, als.) large ore; ards with very fine fruit, all favoured with delightfully fine weather. Shrews- bury was hailed at 2.30, Wrexham at 3.80, Birken- head at 5. and Liverpool (by means of the ferry boat; at 5 30. By this time I was very much tired owing to the long train ride. The journey, how- ever, was a pleasant one, although we had a noisy eotripany, which made me feel sorry that I had left home. On landing we were met by the agent, and we went to have tea, after which wt proceeded to purchase our kit for the ship, which eoapprised a bt-d, tin mug, and wash basin. We then retired to bed, and were up early next morning to get ready to go on board. On Saturday morning the weather was fine, and we went on boatd the steamer at 8 o'clock. After a lot of trouble we secured our bunks, and at twenty minutes to 4 in the afternoon we sailed away. It was late at night when I retired to rest. On Sunday morning I rose early, when the weather was somewhat rough and the sea choppy. Arriving at Queenstown at about 6.30, we saw a beautiful harbour, with splendid scenery all round. The Irish hawkers, with all sorts of fruit, ev-pl, and shawls, oame alongside the ship to offer their goods for sale. After eating a hearty dinner, we prepared for resuming our voy- age. Before tea-time I began to feel sick, but the unpleasant sensation wore of before 7 o'clock, after which I retired to bed, and slept well all night. On Monday morning I rose at 6.30, but in oonsequence of a severe headache I took lo breakfast nor dinner. There was a lot of sickness on boaid. Towards evening the weather was calm and the sea still. I also felt better, and passed the doctor for vaccination, after which he examined the berths. We also met the first ship in broad ocean, being an outward bound barque. At 8p.m. (Greenwich time) we hailed the s.s. Arizona. BaT- ing thenght of home and comforts, I proceeded at 9.30 to "bank" for the night, and slept well, un Tuesday I rose at 5.30, and found the weather very foggy breakfasted at 7.30. There was less sickness on board by this time, and the fog clear- ing we had some music and other sources of enter- tainment. Dinner at 1, and in the afternoon it began to rain and grow somewhat stormy, with more sickness on board. The weather grew more stormy as night advanced. Dating the night death took away one of our number. Rising at 6 en Wednesday I was in time to see the child who had died being quietly committed to the deep with- out but few of the emigrants knowing anything of the matter. The weather was still fresh, but v as ealtn. After breakfast some of us Welshmen sang several favonrite hymns, drawing all cn board round us. The wind again r- se high, blowing the ot.a completely over our decks. We had another death ou b-ard to-day. The second child was buri-d in tbe sea shortly before 9 o'clock, l uring the morning we passed a fall rigged barque at a distance of twelve or fourteen miles frnm 118. Aboat noon a passenger was seized with delirium. About three quarters of a mile away I saw tt-e whales throwing sprays of water into the air, and we passed fishing smacks and other vessels during the day. After dinner weporeeived the banks of Newfoundland, with weather rather elear, a fact somewhat unusual here. In the eve- ning we again saw a number of fishing smacks, and at 8 I went to bed. A hooter was blown all night owing to the prevalence of a dense fog, which only tppfared, however, now and then after sunrise on Friday. The weather was fine, and the sea wus as transparent as plate glass.. We saw the homeward bound steamer City of R'Tme, and in the afternoon we saw three or four sharks. The setting of the aun was a really magnificent spectacle. We whiled away the time by sirgiDg Sankey's hymns, and others engaged in dancing till 10 o'clock. On Saturday morning I got up at 5, when the sea was rough after a stiff breeze during the night. At a'-on we parsed another homeward bound steamer. The weather being again fine towards evening the passengers indulged in more maaio and dancing. On Sunday morning we sighted land at 6 (Ameri- can time.) The pilot boarded us at 7, with Sandy Hook in sight. The passengers began to pack up to leave the ship. The scenery in the distance as we passed Cable Crossing Forts was most oharmidg, and also passing Freedom Monument. Brooklyn Bridge hove in sight, and appeared a beautiful structure. At 3.15 p.m. we arrived at the Docks, and were soon tra; sferred to the Castle Gardens. In the vicinity of the Gardens the grounds and buildings were truly picturesque and majestic, some cf the laiter being- fully 15 storeys high. New Turk is a tremendous city of business. After stay- ing that night in the city we got up to start from .Ciietle Gardens, over Hoboken Ferry, and took train for Soranton, arriving theTe at a quarter past six, after passing through a delightful country: with pretty little villages. I will ncw close with a description of the ship's crew atd the travelling distances of the ship. From Liverpool to Queens- town, 220 miles; Qneenstown till noon Monday, 411 ra'les; noon Tuesday, 404 miles neon Wed- nesday, 414 miles; noon Thursday, 415 miles; noon Friday, 412 miles; noon Saturday, 407 miles; noon Sunday, 339 miles; total, 3022 miles. Alleged Money Stealing at Hafod. At Pontypridd police-court, on Wednesday, (be- fore Mr T. P. Jenkins and Mr C. J. Jones), Sarab Jane Pringley, Hafod, was charged with stealing a sovereign. Mr Rhys for the defence. Richard Davies, assistant with Messri Thomas and Evans, grocers, Porth, said on Saturiay last he went to Woodville Terrace, Hafod, with goods. He went to defendant's house and saw defendant, wbo pnt a sovereign down on the table, and said she would pay 159. He gave her a receipt fcr 15s, and put 5/- change by the sovereign. Defendant swept the sovereign and the 5/- into ler hand. Upon his accusing bar of taking the sovereign, she turned white, and sat on a ohair. After hearing further evidence, defeidant was committed for trial at the Quarter Sessiois.

Playing Games of Chance in the Rhindda. A ROGUE AND VAGABOND", At Pontypridd police-onurt, on Wednesday, (be- fore the Stipendiary and Mr C. J. Jones), William Webb, well-known through the distriet,was-hraged with p'aying games of chance. P.C. Maroombe said on Monday evening he saw defendant playing with dice and cards. Sav several men put money down, and saw defendan' take it up and pay some who had gained. The Stipendiary having examined the gane, said if a winner won 2d defendant was sure to get 4d. He did not call that a gome of chance but of roguery. Defendant was simply a rogn and a vagabond. His worship said as defendant tledged himself not to repeat the offence, he woild dis- charge him on condition of the articles beng des- troyed, otherwise hs would be fined 40a. The things were ordered to be destroyed.

BREACH OF BTJ-UWS AT HllOD. At Pontypridd polioe-oourt, on Wtdneady, (be fore the Stipendiary, Mr T. P. Jenkins, anc Mr 0. J. Jones), John Jones waa fined 10/- for Iriying withnt a license. David Wiltshire, Pontygwaith, and Idwnrd Davies, Pontypridd, were fined 58 each; Gleorge Gunter, 2/6; Joseph Powell, 7/6; Walter In matt, 10/ Charles Ford, Dinas, 5/- Thomas Cook, Pontypridd, 7/6 all for carrying more passngers than their licenses allowed. Mr Rhys prosecuted for the YNtradyfodwtLoeel Board, and Mr J. Davies defended.

Rhondda House Coal Men and the London Coal Dues PROPOSED DEPUTATION TO TS. PRBMIER. At thp monthly meeting of the Rbondds house coal delegates, held at the Washington Hotel, Porth, (Mr Morgan Morgan in the chair), last week, it was decided to protest most emphatically against the reimposi- tion of the London coal dues as an unjust tax upon the co&l producers oi the country. Each delegate was requested to bring the matter before the colliery he represented, and to have a meeting convened at which the workmen should have an opportunity of considering the advisability of sending a representa- tive with the deputation to wait upon the Primic Minister, and of suggesting, who that representative shall be.

PONTYPRIDD POLICE COURT. Wednesday.—Before the Stipendiary, Messrs T. P. Jed kins and C. J. Jones. ASSAULT AT PONTYPRIDD.-Mary Sydman was charged with assaulting Martha Lloyd. — Mr Spickett for complainant, and Mr Rbys for defence. -Martha Lloyd, toy shop keeper, said on the 29th of M!.reh she was shaking carpets at the piae end house. Defendant told her she was not to do so, as she bad some olotbes out. Defendant called her bad names. Complainant's sister came np, ard defondant threw a stone, which hit her on the side. Defendant then threw a dish ;lotb at complainant,. and threatened to knock her head off with a hatchet —Fined 5s. A VIOLENT YOUNG MAN AT PONTTPRIDD.—WM. Williams, Foundry Place, was charged with assault ing Mr Richard Evans, ironmonger, Pontypridd,— Complainant said on Wednesday I&st ne was stand- ing on the pathway with a friend. Alarming Accident at Hafod Colliery. As the second tr..m of coal was being raised on Wednesday morning at the Hafod Colliery the rope of the ascending cage broke when nearly in the fans, and the cane w's dashed ta the bottom f L4.e ahuft. The guiGe ropes broke through thf ve!d8ity of the descending cage, and a nrc&t deal of fla,iptige was 0 used at the bottom of the pit Luckily, nobody was injurei. Work had to be sus tended for the day.
