MURDER AND KOBBERY IN A TRAIN. The New York correspondent of the Standard says Upon the Rock Island Railway, a desperate dlfray has occurred, which had a fatal ending. The train was near .Joliet, Illinois, when the conductor entered the United states Express Company's car, and was horrorstruck by the sight that met his eyes. The express agent was lying dead, having been beaten to death with a poker, after in iking a terri- ble struggle with his murderers, evidence of which was afforded by the confusion of the content of t e car. The furniture and fittings wi-re broken to pieces, and the floor and sides of the car were be- spaltered all over with blood. The dead man's hands were tightly clenched one held a lock of black hair, and the other a lock of red hair. The thieves had evidently feared to raise an alarm by firing a revolver, and had, therefore, recourse to a poker. They had taken 20,000 dollars out of t!)M cash-boxes and 40 packages of jewellery, and with this booty had leaped from the train while it was in motion, and so made their escape. n
